It is hard to over-estimate what is at stake in Iraq today. The removal of Saddam Hussein has proved to be the beginning, not the culmination, of a long and highly uncertain process of occupation and state-building. The lawlessness and looting that greeted the liberation of Baghdad on April 9th 2003 has evolved into a self-sustaining dynamic that combines violence, instability and profound uncertainty. US troops now face an insurgency that has extended its geographical impact, while increasing the level of violence and the potential for destruction and instability have increased.
Iraq's Future investigates why regime change in Baghdad has been much more difficult and costly than at first anticipated. It examines the genesis and evolution of the violent campaign to expel United States troops and make Iraq ungovernable. It then goes on to explain the ideological currents that gave birth to the insurgency and how both the United States and new Iraqi government have tried to combat it. The United States and their local allies are now involved in a long-term mission of state-building in Iraq. The book describes what is involved in building a new government from scratch. It then investigates how the United States has tried to pursue this goal and the tensions inherent in its approach. Finally the book charts the political trends at work in Iraqi society and how they are likely to unfold in the medium to long term.

Useful, comprehensive contribution to a dynamic subject........1999-10-06
I wish to share with you my enthusiasm for this new book. Its arrival adds substantially to the resources available for those who wish to teach marketing using the new media and technologies.
The book has many merits. Its structure and thorough presentation of important aspects of its chosen subjects are valuable; it provides guidance on how Web and other resources can be used by marketers. It does not assume too much familiarity with the Internet, and avoids too much technical treatment of issues which are of peripheral interest to marketers. It has a clear focus on how traditional marketing tools and techniques can be complemented by resources of the Internet. The guidance for an Internet marketing plan is of special interest to us.
My main reservation is that the book is America-centric. As we move into the wired world of the new millennium it will be necessary for marketers to take a global perspective on many of the issues dealt with here. (But let us rejoice! - the Web site promises updates and developments in this area.)
That said, this is a welcome addition to a fast-changing and important subject area.
Finally, I observe that the UK paperback price at seems to be significantly lower than the USA textbook price. Enjoy!

Great book. Covers all the areas of online marketing. Very current (1999) but overpriced. I did not purchase it as a textbook so I may not see all the value in the work. It is not about getting your web site on search sites but how to market it as a brand etc. Five stars for content less one for high price. Dan

It is rare to find a systematical internet marketing book, but this is good to study to beginners. besides the end of the chapter can help us create Internet marketing plan. If you work in the marketing department, this is a little boring.

Demonstrated are the extraordinary economic and human damage these practices have wrought over the past decade, and how they have displaced the originally radical and pro-people orientation of the African National Congress. Demonstrated are the ways in which South African civil society has resisted corporate-dominated globalization in its fight against not only international financial institutions, but also the big pharmaceutical corporations over access to HIV/AIDS drugs. An argument is made that there is another way to more socially just and economically rapid development via deglobalization, which would entail cutting loose from dependence on global institutions and foreign capital, and locking financial resources down in order to put them to work productively within national boundaries.
