The production of global public goods requires the orchestration of initiatives by a large number of diverse actors across different levels and sectors. It may require the collaboration of governments, business and civil society, and in most cases it almost certainly calls for an effective linkage of the local, national, regional, and global levels. In light of today's new realities, this book examines a series of managerial and political challenges that pertain to the design and implementation of production strategies and the monitoring and evaluation of global public goods provision.As participatory decision-making enhances the political support for - and thus the effectiveness of - certain policy decisions, this volume offers suggestions on a number of pragmatic policy reforms for bringing the global public more into public policy making on global issues. I think that this book closes the knowledge gap surrounding this topic. It is one thing to theorize about the benefits or negative impacts of global public goods (or bads) and another to suggest ways to go about dealing with GPG. This book is extremely enlightening and presents realistic solutions!

Perfect Follow-up.......2004-06-02

Global Public Goods and Multilateralism must intertwine in order for progress and provision to come about. This is an idea that is so often neglected and forgotten. This book places an importance role that nations must carry out...it also provides recommendations for issues that arise in the midst of GPG provision. This book does not negate the global issues that exist within and surrounding the international realm...yet the book does a fabulous job on highlighting the importance of addressing these issues as a means of furthering the progress of Global Public Goods.

Thought Provoking.......2004-06-02

This books is an excellent follow-up of the Global Public Goods: International Cooperation in the 21st Century. It helped me visual and understand the provisionary measures needed to bring about GPGs.

It is worth the money to get this one and read before you start the buying process. However, it does not cover much great details on small business less than $4M.

Good, but outdated.......2005-01-30

As a would be buyer i bought this book. Good, but unfortunately in desparate need of an update. Much has moved on including the internet as a medium for business sales, the size of businesses adopting his strategy, & the role of business brokers acting on the "buy side".

There arent many more recent books however, & this book is a very useful introduction if you are in the market for a larger sized business.

Not an end-all reference book.......2005-01-27

I bought 2 books on this subject and may have returned the other book had I read this one first. It does not inspire much confidence for the first time, small-fry businesss buyer. The biggest disappointment is that the book claims to cater to businesses between 2 and 50 million dollars in annual sales. In reality, most examples (of the few provided) are at the top end of that scale which is out of my range. The book also spends an inordinate amount of time discussing the benefits of using business intermediaries. Why? I'll give you one guess what the author does for a living when he is not writing books. The best thing that I took from the book were the questions to ask and the financials to analyze during negotiations that I would not have thought of on my own. This information is quite helpful but it is spread across 300 pages of text and there is no summary list of these key points at the end as there are in other texts. If you buy this book it should be with the understanding that it will not be the only book you will need.

I found the contents of this book to be very generic and almost superficial. The comments were at times so generic, they were meaningless. If you are a 7th grader "dreaming" of buying a business some day, maybe this book is good enough. If you are serious about buying a business, and want concrete advice, examples and guidance, than look elsewhere. I found BUYOUT, by Rick Rikertsen much more informative; while it dealt with somewhat larger business transactions than most would be involved in, the advice and examples apply to buying any size business. Spend the little extra and get BUYOUT.

This is probably one of the most useful books I have ever bought.

Bourque guided me step-by-step through the process of buying a car online.

Although I have to admit this book is very interesting. I do not like the idea of forcing students to buy his own book.

This book has been more helpful than any other book on importing I've found. Pencak includes important phone numbers as well as information on how and and when to use these contacts. This book is short and to the point. With lots of good references and anecdotal information. Unlike the other fluffy books which spend tons of pages on how to build the business, this one is focusing on the regulation and actual importing to the USA. The only book around with this type of focus. Great!

Not very readable, but lot's of info.......2001-10-24

Perhaps I was under the wrong impression when I bought this, I thought it had general advice on importing, things like "where to find the best silk in China" and some personal anecdotes. Since it wasn't really reading material, per se, but more like a book for lawyers or a reference for someone already importing stuff or about to, I wasn't really impressed. I suppose that for someone needing the hard facts, rules, regs, etc, then this would be a good book, but if you're looking for an easy to read, filled with advice kind book, look elsewhere.
