Collaboratively compiled and edited by biologists and academicians John H. Byrne and James L. Roberts, From Molecules To Networks: An Introduction To Cellular And Molecular Neuroscience is a superbly organized and presented college-level instructional text presupposing a heavy mathematic and scientific background as it meticulously instructs the reader concerning cellular components of nervous tissue, brain energy metabolism, molecular properties of ion channels, and more. Each instructional chapter is written and presented by a different specialist or specialists in the specific field. Some diagrams intersperse the largely nuts-and-bolts information of this straightforward and through textbook, recommended especially for cellular and molecular neuroscience students and professionals whose careers directly correspond to this vibrant field. The book covers two aspects of neural tissue transplantation research. One involves the transplantation of particular cells to repair or augment specific neuronal systems. This technique could be useful for such conditions as Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, chronic pain, and epilepsy. The other line of research concerns regeneration from injury, especially of the spinal cord.

After providing basic background on transplantation, brain structure, and development, the book discusses Parkinson's disease, the use of transplants to influence localized brain functions, circuit reconstruction, and genetic engineering and other future technologies.

Outstanding Resource.......1998-10-08

This book should be included on every neurologist's shelf, and also provides insights useful to any molecular biologist. Edited by the esteemed Dr. Joseph B. Martin, co-editor of the gold standard of medical textbooks, Harrison's Textbook of Internal Medicine, it is clear that the clarity of that text is due in no small part to its editing. Martin also provides extremely useful "next steps" in his unique section that follows the texts written by other pre-eminent neurologists such as Dr. Anne Young and scores of others from Harvard Medical School, and Dr. Stephen Hauser and other former colleagues of Dr. Martin's at UCSF. This is an absolute must read.

This is a book full of fluff. Not practical at all in today's ecommerce world! Some high-score reviewing to this title is really misleading.

Easy reading but not worth it.......1999-10-29

I bought this book hoping to learn some technical issues involved in web business, after reading it I found I learned nothing new. It seemed to touch every issues related but really explained nothing. There are certainly better books than this one.

This book is purely theory. There is nothing that can actually be used in real life applications.

Not to the point and content does not match chapter title.......1999-09-12

Book is full of diagrams only the author could understand. Author does have some good insight(not technical) on building a good site.That will be the only reason for reading this book. But he could probably cover that in a pamphlet instead of a book if he exercise self constraint with writing metaphors. Basically the technical side is very limited and outdated, and does not offer good advice due to subjectiveness. Also the book has too much unnecessary writings equivalent to verbal mumbling. One simple point could take up a whole page. Waste of reader's time. Author does not know his target audience. Some parts of the book are so basic that it belongs to the FOR DUMMY series, but others are very technical and author did not offer any briefing.
