Excellent overview of chemical industry development.......1998-12-21

As a patent attorney in the chemical arts, I was fascinated by a study of the historical development of the chemical industry. The book allowed me to understand the strengths and weaknesses of European,US and Japanese educational system, financial system and natural resources and the impact these characteristics had on the development of chemical companies within each region. Today's major companies' cultures, organizations and technology development programs bear the unmistakeable impression of their region's strengths and weaknesses. This book would be of interest to anyone working in research, marketing or management in the chemical industry. The authors' book is a marketing student's tour of the internet. Place the book by your keyboard and visit the sites.

The division of the book into topics that parallel those found in many Principles of Marketing texts makes it a useful companion to most of those texts, but without one of those texts--or strong familiarity with one--the book's usefulness is limited. The book's publisher is a major publisher of business textbooks.

One could claim that the book's coverage of the topics it identifies is uneven, but in truth, it's the result of uneven coverage of those topics on the web itself. If the reader is looking for a guide on how to market on the internet, this is not the book. If the reader is looking for how marketers are using the internet to do the things covered in a Principles text. It's here.
