Sustainable Marketing: Managerial - Ecological Issues
Donald A. Fuller Manufacturer: Sage Publications, Inc ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover Similar Items:
ASIN: 0761912185 |
Book Description
Sustainable Marketing is structured around the traditional "4Ps" of marketing and explains how marketing mix decisions can and do influence environmental outcomes. Throughout the book, Donald A. Fuller advocates the conversion of consumption systems to a sustainable paradigm that represents a circular use of resources, not the linear approach (materials >products >consumption >disposal) that leads to the pollution of ecosystems. The book's running theme is that marketers can reinvent strategy and craft "win-win-win" solutions, where customers win (obtaining genuine benefits), organizations win (achieving financial objectives), and ecosystems win (ecosystem functioning is preserved or enhanced). The theme is vividly illustrated by 49 in-text exhibits of successful corporate environmental initiatives.

Ecological Debt: The Health of the Planet and the Wealth of Nations
Andrew Simms Manufacturer: Pluto Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback Similar Items:

Book Description
'A new phrase has entered the language.' Anita Roddick, founder of the Body Shop'Creative and compelling.' Guardian
'Essential reading.' Head of the International Panel on Climate Change
If the whole world wanted to live like people in the United States we would need the resources of five planets like Earth. Simms shows how millions of us in the West are running up huge ecological debts: from the amount of oil and coal that we burn to heat our houses and run our cars, to what we consume and the waste that we create, the impact of our lifestyles is felt worldwide. Whilst these debts go unpaid, millions more living in poverty in the majority world suffer the burden of paying dubious foreign financial debts. The book explores a great paradox of our age: how the global wealth gap was built on ecological debts, which the world's poorest are now having to pay for. Highlighting how and why this has happened, he also shows what can be done differently in the future - and what steps we can take to stop pushing the planet to the point of environmental bankruptcy.

The Ecological Economics Of Consumption (Current Issues in Ecological Economics Series)
Manufacturer: Edward Elgar Publishing ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 1843765128 |
Book Description
Research on consumption from an environmental perspective has exploded since the late 1990s. This important new volume cuts across disciplines to present the latest research in the field. The book is divided into three parts, the first of which addresses the problems of consumption both as a concept and as an economic and social force with high environmental impact. In the second part, the authors try to explain consumption as an attempt by individuals to satisfy different types of needs while simultaneously being embedded in certain lifestyles and constrained by time and daily routines. The final section looks at how change towards less environmentally damaging consumption patterns can be achieved through national sustainability and consumer policy measures, as well as through community building and individual action. In accordance with the transdisciplinary nature of ecological economics, the original contributions emanate from a variety of different perspectives to reflect the diversity of research in this growing field. By seriously exploring the role of consumption within ecological economics, this fine book will provide invaluable reading for students and researchers interested in sustainable consumption, ecological economics and consumer research.

What an idea stimulator!.......2001-11-09
Full Price begins with an emphasis on maximizing value perception. When I saw that phrase in the table of contents, I wondered what this book might say that hasn't already been said by countless authors beating the same drum. Aha! The difference is in the countless examples that illustrate every one of the author's points. Winninger walks his talk-the value of his book is certainly maximized by the real-life examples. I can't tell you how many ideas I gleaned from those examples-page after page of examples and best practices.
Winninger, founder of Winninger Institute for Market Strategy in Minneapolis, knows his stuff. He's a professional speaker and consultant who's worked with over a thousand companies in many fields. This is definitely a case of "been there, done that." You'll discover that value as you move through his 15 chapters. I chuckled when I noticed what the author did with the quotes at the start of each chapter. After quoting others for the first two chapters, he quoted himself for the rest! He must have enjoyed writing this book.
The book is organized very well. Chapter titles include Selling the Program, Vertical Integration, Segmenting Your Services to Targeted Customers, Owning the Customer's Buying Cycle, and Promoting Differences. This easy-to-read book gets more exciting as it continues, with chapters on Substantiating Value, Not Price; Living the Brand; Exploiting Technology; and Forging the Indestructible System. And every chapter is stuffed with best practice examples. Can you tell I was impressed with the way these examples brought the author's points to life?
The whole premise of the book is achieving Maximum Value Perception: seeking and fulfilling the highest need of your premium customer. Think about those words. Each is explained in the book, but let me share the questions that flow from the author's discussion: 1. Who is my premium customer? 2. What is my premium customer's highest need? 3. How do I determine my Maximum Value Perception? 4. How do I achieve Maximum Value Perception and receive full price? These questions are answered as the reader is stimulated, then we're off and running!
Fast read, summaries at the end of each chapter, validating footnotes, and a good index. This is a book you'll read eagerly, salivating at the thought of how you'll apply your learnings to overcome your competition. And this is a book you'll return to from time to time to stimulate more great ideas to differentiate yourself from the competition.

New Perspectives for Mayors, Governors and Legislators.......2001-04-10
The first half of the book is background, and it explores the familiar territory of improved communications, rapidly evolving technology, globalization, and cascades of cost reduction in the context of knowledge-based enterprises. If you are pretty familiar with the new economy, you can skip this material. If you are not, it is a good and accurate summary of current thinking.
The second half of the book is the unique part. It suggests four ways that governments can benefit from the new economy.
(1) Make the place where new economy companies will be located more suitable for the needs of their employees.
(2) Make government operate along the lines of new economy principles.
(3) Focus government spending on areas where it will create a more fertile environment for individuals and companies to prosper in the new economy.
(4) Help to coordinate local efforts to create an effective clustering of specialist business activities from education to venture capital to fostering an entrepreneurial environment.
Each section has many examples of what governments have been doing in these areas in the past.
The tendency for most who read this book will be to try to provide some of everything on the list. That's probably not a good idea. A good first step is to spend time with new economy companies to find out what problems they have which government can help overcome. A good second step is to try some low-cost experiments to see what works, and what doesn't. A good third step would be to evaluate the potential benefits and costs of making these changes. I suspect that most governments can get the bulk of potential benefits from doing a small subset of the lists here. And, not all of the important items may be on the list. But this book is certainly a good introduction to some of what governments should be thinking about.
If you are working in a new economy business, you should take some time to acquaint your legislators about the problems and missed opportunities that state and local government present for you now. That communication process is all too often focused solely on taxes and getting rid of excess regulation. But your needs are probably greater elsewhere. Until you share that information, the agenda will be swayed in the wrong direction.
I also think that similar books need to be written for educators, heads of nonprofit enterprises, and those who administer governmental activities.
Done properly, this can be a case of building a bigger and better pie for everyone.
Find better ways to support one another!

Use Your Money Wisely And Don't Buy This Book.......2002-04-18
This is unfortunate. Although there are other, equally Christian, views of finances that do not rest on the author's premises (women are to be submissive financially, e.g.), he had some things to say that made me think, though I ultimately disagreed with many of his conclusions (this is _not_ the reason for the low rating).
For a much deeper look at the wise use of money, I recommend the classic _Your Money or Your Life_ by Joe Dominguez and Vicki Robins. It does not have a specifically Christian orientation but it certainly cannot be said to be anti-Christian.
