Best book on the subject I've read!.......2007-01-03

I've read a lot about financial math (I'm a physicist and love mathematics). This book is a gift. Just the tips (and code) on using Mathematica to process the data are worth the price alone. I don't buy into the Efficient Market Hypothesis and this book delivers (section 8.2) on fast markets. He correctly looks at the cash balance, something most folks gloss over, and sets up the various symbolic and numerical solutions in a useful way. The language is a bit terse and the structure drove me nuts until I got into the swing of the rhythm of the flow. I am grateful for the language now - we get a detailed look into the mind of someone who just plain KNOWS this subject. The fact you get the whole book as a series of Mathematica notebooks which are executible is a real plus. A few quick changes to the code and you have YOUR problem well on the way to solution. It is practical, explicitly direct, charmingly theoretical and powerfully presented. The only problem is I want a second volume and I want it NOW!

Tough book but very useful.......2006-08-08

This book is merciless; very complex, very dense. It is also, however, extremely useful. If Stojanovic were to publish ten more books on the topic, he would probably revolutionize the use of Mathematica in finance. The enclosed CD was also useful; such things are usually worthless but in this case, the book contains so much code that it would not be practical to implement without a digital copy.

The book is certainly a bargain at $70.

Best Book on Finance I have ever read........2006-05-19

Its a tough read, but well worth it, most of the work is origional or is an origional take on what has been done before. A bit like what Hamilitonian mechanics is to Newtonian mechanics

....this book is the last one from a series of five, published as "Law of One" (also as "The Ra Material"). Included is the personal material removed from the previous four volumes. The subject of the Law of One books is the spiritual evolution of humankind. This is a channeled material in a question-and-answer format that requires some attention to grasp. The entity providing the answers ("RA")claims to be an extra-terrestrial. I have found the books inspiring, although this applies more to the first four volumes which are more general. This last volume (Personal Material) builds on the info given in the previous four books.

Miller provides a fresh perspective on balance of payments and exchange rate theories, including intertemporal open economy models that focus on the optimum current account. To this end, he proves that any non-zero balance of payments must always be associated with a disequilibrium in either a commodity or an asset market. In this rigorous yet readable book, important welfare and policy implications are carefully examined. Miller develops a new theory of the balance of payments associated with commodity market disequilibrium, a loanable funds theory of exchange rate and a modern foreign exchange market theory of the exchange rate that incorporates capital flows.

The book also details fifteen puzzling facts associated with open economies and the FX market. After reviewing existing explanations to these puzzles, Miller shows how each of the above new theories provides new, often unified solutions to them.

This book is a synthesis of the author's ideas and research concerning the monetary consequences of trade flows, and the relevance of conventional balance of payments adjustment theory. These ideas are considered mainly in the context of developing countries, many of which suffer from deep structural difficulties and severe foreign exchange shortages.

Mainstream economic theory regards the balance of payments to be self-adjusting, meaning that the impact of the balance of payments on the growth and development process is neither considered nor analyzed. In contrast, the author emphasizes the importance of integrating monetary considerations into trade theory and argues that the balance of payments consequences of trade policy need to be carefully addressed. This approach has a number of implications for important issues such as: the sequencing of trade liberalization; the role of the exchange rate in equilibrating the balance of payments; the case for protection; and the way in which the importance of export growth is articulated. Some of the ideas expressed have a long and distinguished ancestry, but they are not part of the mainstream orthodoxy and need airing in a world increasingly divided into rich and poor countries. The author also considers the case for a new international economic order which would better serve the needs of developing countries, particularly by stabilizing primary product prices and controlling speculative capital flows.
