A separate Guide, which may be accessed through the Internet, further enhances the student's mastery of the topics by providing solutions guides to the questions and problems in the text. The book arrived on time, but it is a bit damaged on the back.
Software compatibility issue.......2003-10-13
If you read 'readme.txt' carefully, you'll find instructions on how to run examples under full GAUSS version. I use GAUSS 5.0 to run the examples, and no problems at all. To me, it's a good place to learn GAUSS programming.
Good software bundle.......2002-08-04
The book itself and the software programs themselves are "independently" valuable. Especially, GAUSS instruction programs are well organized, but the system itself is a little bit old(GAUSS 3.2 Light for WIN 95/NT) and Aptech version-up offer has already expired you might take into your account. There are huge amount of descriptions about GAUSS program not in book but in CD software, from Ruud Koning's GAUSS instruction to searchable GAUSS maling list archive(1995-1999) and very useful matrix review manual. But you may have to consider that the content of book itself does not describe any GAUSS but adds computer problem sets as bonus and that whole GAUSS computer problem requires original "ef" library inside CD and does not support higher edition of GAUSS(You should run inside GAUSS 3.2). The book is for advanced readers only(after reading Greene) and is not a classical econometric book which covers time series. So, this is best for those who are in in the field of Bayesian, nonparametric, or a little bit skewed to theory of that kind, but not good for those who are in the field of "classical" econometrics, time series and financial related. No time series stuff described at all.

Book Description
Providing adequate, accessible, and affordable housing is a major problem affecting many African countries. Focusing on the West African country of Ghana, Konadu-Agyemang explores the urban housing question in light of current development theories. He concludes that it would be naive to see Ghana's housing crisis primarily as a result of political instability or economic mismanagement. Instead, the author argues that economic and social problems in Africa are products of the structural distortions created by colonialism and the draining of African resources to European countries. The postcolonial continuation of relations of dependency has led to underdevelopment, which is manifested in malformed urban areas characterized by housing shortages, slum environments, and atrophied infrastructures. Konadu-Agyemang concludes that affordable housing in Ghana will only occur with the implementation of policies aimed at decreasing Ghana's dependence on imported building materials and standards. Solutions to the housing crisis in Ghana require remedies to both the internal constraints that impede development and the inequities in the global economy that foster dependency and neo-colonialism.

Like the U.S. labor organizers in the early part of the 20th century who created the C.I.O. in response to A.F.L. corruption, Mexico's F.A.T. (Frente Autentico del Trabajo or Authentic Workers' Front) is building a historic movement to create an alternative to Mexico's notoriously co-opted labor unions and collusion with government international capital. Allies Across the Border, the first book on F.A.T., analyzes this important group in the context of the globalization of capital and the necessary globalization of labor struggle. Dale Hathaway shows how F.A.T.'s dedication to worker education and self-management, union independence, and community development are key, not only in Mexico, but worldwide.
Allies Across the Border includes detailed descriptions of F.A.T.'s growth from its liberation theology origins, through the Worker's Uprising and student movements of the late 60s, Mexico's debt crisis of the 70s and 80s, and F.A.T.'s work with women's groups, peasants, and consumer co-ops in the 90s. Hathaway's Allies Across the Border shows how F.A.T.'s dedication to worker's dignity offers lessons for North American workers who are fighting to keep corporations from pushing for greater exploitation of workers and environment in their home countries and worldwide.

This is a fine book on the history of the FAT -- Mexico's oldest independent union federation. The book is well researched with interesting insights into how a truly movement-oriented unionism functions on the ground, definitely worth reading.

This book questions what enduring lessons have been learned about the interdependence of international trade and economic development during the last fifty years. Since the end of the Cold War and the advent of the WTO, developing countries have been forced to face the choice of whether, and to what extent, to integrate economically with the rest of the world. The key issue of international political economy is emphasized.
The authors argue that while integration through trade has become increasingly necessary for successful development, it rapidly encounters a series of problems that remain to be resolved. These range from increasing inequality and instability, the vagaries of WTO rules, persistent agricultural protection in developed countries, through to inadequate finance and new waves of technological innovation. Underlying all these concerns, however, is the deeper question of how much the developing countries can influence the setting of the rules of the international system.
