Book Description
A collective effort by American and North African scholars, this volume provides a comprehensive analysis of recent economic, social, and political events in North Africa. It shows how the Maghrebi states and societies are currently at a very important junction as they try to adjust to different ways of doing things in new regional and international orders. Using a political economy approach, the book focuses on a series of issues raised by the interaction between economic crisis and reform on the one hand, and political change or stagnation on the other. The author and his contributors provide a comprehensive and up-to-date survey of particular value to scholars and researchers of the Arab world in general and North Africa in particular.

Inspiring.......2005-03-29
Dr. Layachi is one of the foremost authorities on international politics and world affairs. He works as a consultant for the State Department and the United Nations. He is a gold mine of information and that comes foward in this book. It is truly an enlightening work that is worth the read, despite the thoughts of a few disgruntled college kids.
I was an A student with Layachi.......2004-07-08
I read that the flushing NY guy says his books are not for C students. Well maybe the reason why he enjoyed his class was because Layachi displayed favoritism towards him because he is a man. He is a mysoginist. I still hated his classes and I found his teaching method to be horrible. Out of all the professors I have had he has been the worst. I am an A student and I did not enjoy him at all... Most of my colleagues agree his class was horrible and we hope to never get him again.
I was one of Layachi's ex students.......2004-07-07
Let me tell you something, unless you are muslim or a man Layachi will not like you (he displays anti semitic behaviour in class as well as he speaks in french and Arab with students so no one will understand him). His books are boring as well and his classes are worst. I am happy it is over. I don't care if he went to NYU... Big deal so did my grandfather.
Excellant and Insightful Writing.......2003-10-16
As a former student of Dr. Layachi at St John's University, I found this book to be true to his style: intelligent.
Pass on this one.......2003-01-10
I browsed over this book for a project I was doing, and let me tell you all the negative reviews this book recieved are 100% correct, not only is it boring, dry and uneventful and goes nowhere. Pass on this one, look for something else.

Book Description
The essays in this volume are united by their attention to the many ways in which residents of Greece’s southern Argolid peninsula have attempted to shelter, feed, and advance the economic situation of their families over the last three centuries. This work juxtaposes a series of research projects undertaken in various communities, projects that, taken together, have made the southern Argolid the focus of more ethnographic and ethnohistorical study than any other comparable region of Greece. Ethnographic, geographic, historical, and archaeological methodologies are integrated to yield an image of the southern Argolid as a contingent countryside whose boundaries, character, people, and external connections have been reconfigured time and again.
Such notions strengthen general reformulations occurring within Greek ethnography and speak directly to archaeological attempts to connect the Greek past and present. This volume, the fourth in a series of books deriving from the Argolid Exploration Project conducted by Stanford University, sets forth the material conditions of rural Greek life as mutable and negotiated in ways that complement archaeological interest in the repeated settlement fluctuations of the Greek past. It also exemplifies recent ethnographic shifts in conceiving other aspects of modern Greek life.
The volume replaces assumptions of village longevity with inquiry into what causes settlements to form and grow or to decline. It places idealized inheritance patterns alongside records of actual land transactions. Houses expand, contract, and change over time. The social boundaries among shepherds, farmers, and sailors blur through an exploration of personal occupation histories. In short, the book reexamines and questions many of the categories and concepts by which rural Greece has long been represented.
Book Description
A sales cycle is a conversation that the sales person manages...and moves forward. --wisdom from a veteran of 250,000 cold calls! And the hardest part of selling is getting that conversation started. Though most sales gurus emphasize the closing process, John Klymshyn says that closing is easy...but setting things up the right way is hard. He offers * practical secrets--how to open the conversation and ensure it travels the right direction * tools for salespeople at any level: CEO, Manager, or frontline newbie * exercises to raise and keep spirits high and practice in keeping one's edge, because maintaining focus and enthusiasm can be tough, especially through a long sales cycle
Customer Reviews:
The one sales book every salesperson or sales manager should own - This is selling for today's needs.......2005-07-14
I decided to write this review because I was here buying yet another copy of book since I gave my last copy away . . . and that wasn't the first one I've given away.
Moving the sale forward is selling the way it should be done. John clearly demonstrates how to create conversations that sell and to keep them moving.
The thing I like about this book is that the information really works. It isn't the old hackneyed ideas that are pontificated over and over again by so called "sales trainers." This is practical, easy to implement advice from a sales trainer who walks his talk. He understands what it takes to be a successful salesperson because he is.
I'm confident anyone who sells for a living and whose compesnation is based all or in part on commission will at least double their income in a year if they read and apply these principles.
The reason I keep giving the book away is that I tell clients about it and then end up giving it to them.
The other person this book is for without a question are people who don't like to sell and who don't categorize themselves as salespeople. This book will show you how to leverage your natural talents to naturally close business . . . without selling.
I highly recommend this book for anyone involved in selling, it has definately impacted the way I sell and improved my ability to get more of the kind of business I want.
You'll love it, but most importantly, the busy executives you sell to will love your new approach and reward you with more business.
Better Understanding Leads to Greater Success.......2003-05-27
John Klymshyn's "Move The Sale Forward" does an outstanding job of demonstrating that, while success in sales does require calculation, pre-planning, and extensive strategizing, there is also a great need for genuine human characteristics, such as emotion, understanding, and honesty. While many books have been written about the latest 'answers' to the question of how to be a better salesperson, John Klymshyn's book is unique in its focus on fundamentals as the keys to success. John talks about the importance of understanding one's customer, of 'making the human connection' with a client, and of how to carry on client conversations so that they are comfortable and productive, rather than forced and inefficient. Above all, Klymshyn's narrative is practical; that is, it provides legitimate recommendations on what to say to a client, when to say it, when NOT to say it, and, most importantly, how to "Move the Sale Forward." While I have been in sales and associated with salespeople for more than twenty years, I've not previously seen such emphasis placed on establishing relationships with clients, and then using those relationships to keep making progress towards the salesperson's ultimate goal, which is measurable success. In my experience and in my opinion, John Klymshyn's sales style of focusing on relationships is absolutely the right way to go, and his book, "Move The Sales Forward: Position Yourself and Your Business To Make Things Happen" provides invaluable direction and tools to make this happen for even the most experienced salesperson. Because this book professes a sincere philosophy rather than a caluclated style, its value to rookie salespeople and experienced veterans alike is tremendous. Salespeople's success comes from understanding their customer, recognizing their customer's needs, and knowing how to deliver those needs to that customer at the proper price. John Klymshyn's book takes these principles and lays them out in a fashion that makes them not only understandable and logical, but also easy to embrace.

the usual suspects...NOT!.......2000-11-04
This must have been an interesting conference: a multinational cast of the usual suspects (Scott Snyder, Kyongman Jeon, Aidan Foster-Carter et al.) joined by some functional area specialists (Jeffrey Pilkington, Danny Leipziger et al.) for added spice.
Among the highpoints: Heather Smith's dissection of the food situation, David Steinberg's thoughtful reflections on South Korean politics, and Holger Wolf's demolition of the myths of German unification. Anthony Michell provides a heterox view of the North Korean economy. It may not be a convincing view, but it is a welcome antidote to usual recitation of Bank of Korea figures.
This is an interesting book on an important topic.......2000-10-28
Today in South Korea we have "sunshine policy" toward North Korea. But we need to know what will happen. This book has many experts from South Korea and other countries. I think that the best essay is by Professor Hearther Smith. She analyses the food situation in North Korea, using many datas. There is also an essay by Dr. Danny Leipziger from the World Bank. He describes how international institutions can help North Korea based on the experience of Vietnam. The only bad thing about this book is one of the authors refers almost only to her own researches (and one author criticizes the editor). But this is an excellent book on an important topic.

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Book Description
With selected readings ranging from the mercantilists of the 16th and 17th centuries to contemporary 20th century authors, Free Trade versus Protectionism addresses one of the oldest controversies in economic science - the fundamental opposition of these two doctrines. It is the first book ever to trace this debate over more than three centuries. Overbeek presents arguments advanced by advocates of free trade and protectionism alike, creating a useful tool for scrutinizing the standpoints of both schools. The book consists of seven parts, beginning with mercantilism and its critics. Subsequent sections examine the free traders and protectionists of the nineteenth century, the evolution of the debate between 1900 and 1940, and the discussion of free trade versus protectionism during the latter half of the twentieth century. At the beginning of each section, the editor's survey of the period under review places the material in proper context; the selections themselves are then preceded by the editor's introduction, which contains a brief biography of the author and an explanation of the author's views. Free Trade versus Protectionism will prove a useful source book for professors and students of the history of economic thought, international economics, international politics, and international business.
