The days when a salesperson could carry the company catalog around in his or her head have disappeared. Tom Siebel's focus of course is on the SFA side of sales, however this book is filled with great humor and great advice. I would recommend it to any sales person trying to improve their consultative selling approach. Siebel is of course a master salesman.

Thomas Siebel has a great vision for what many corporate bureaucracies cloud over with endless data analysis...it takes real salespeople, on the street, selling the business to succeed. IT systems are meant to help in a number of different ways but ultimately they must exist to move sales forward and not drag them down. Siebel explains how companies can benefit from the data collection and analysis while empowering the salesforce to sell.

This book is an excellent choice for individuals hell-bent on implementing sales automation without really knowing why. For those who are struggling to develop a vision for their sales automation initiative, Tom Siebel does a good job of balancing relevant historical information with real world examples and hypothetical situations. One might expect a book written by Tom Siebel to make the case for his company's own software solution, but that is not the case. Instead, Tom provides keen insight into the benefits of automation as it relates to the processes of selling and customer relationship management. Those who are have already developed and successfully articulated a clear vision for their sales automation initiative may find this book interesting, but probably of little value in moving forward. "Virtual Selling" concentrates exclusively on vision. Those looking for advice or information on the process one goes through in successfully developing and implementing a sales automation initiatve need to look elsewhere. Practical guide and Easy to use.......2005-05-20
I bought this book about a year ago but only started reading it/using it recently. It is very easy to follow and the cd-rom worked great for us. It showed us a practical, sensible way to get out of debt...and stay out. I wouldn't let the Mormon or LDS part keep you from trying this book. The financial advice is sound and practical for anyone. I have heard of "power payments" before but never had it presented in an easy to understand format. The cd-rom is simple to use. I had put off using the book and cd-rom because I thought the theories and the s/w would be too complicated and over my head. I shouldn't have worried about it. Even though I am not an experienced Excel user or even a spreadsheet user, it was no problem. I highly recommend this book to anyone either in debt or hoping to avoid debt.
Debt Trouble to Peace of Mind.......2004-12-28
The Shamos' book, Debt-Free on Any Income, is a welcome addition to the body of personal finance literature. It is aimed at those already in consumer debt distress and it details a debt-payoff strategy leading to the goal of living debt-free, on a pay-as-you-go budget. The authors are Mormons and have directed their book primarily to other Mormons - sub-title, "A Practical Guide to Financial Security for Latter-day Saints" - so readers should expect counsel from LDS Church leaders on prudent living. Nonetheless, a wide audience will appreciate the Shamos' principles and approach to personal financial management. The book is well organized and easy to follow. For those with access to a personal computer, the CD-ROM with Excel spreadsheets is very easy to use, however, the worksheets included in the text can be filled out by hand. I particularly liked the 20 page Appendix with money saving ideas across a range of topics. Take a look - I bought several extra copies to give to my adult children and friends in need.

Straight forward S&O Planning .......2007-04-10
I bought this book a few years ago and it was very helpfull to create an own approach for the business I'm in. It is my personal oppinion, that the topic about balancing demand and supply within a company is underestimated. There are many conflicts in companies but the one between Sales and Production is one of the most important to be solved. I'm coming from the market/strategy and operations side of a company and the book was very helpfull in explaining step-by-step the importance of a minimal planning tool based on stock, production quote and actual/ forecasted sales. Even though forecasting is always "wrong", there are certain things upstream the production line that must be planned in advance.
The author distinguishes between make-to-stock as well as make-to-order companies (or even a mix is possible although not described). Simple examples help to install a simple planning tool, bringing especially the Sales people on the round table is naturally up to you. Continuos improvement of a simple Sales & Operations Planning tool will not only improve scheduling at your operations but give your Sales people an advantage as well: first of all you can measure and improve your on-time-delivery performance and second your Sales people might even get the chance for a simple tool, quoting lead times better during the the request for quotes.
S&O Planing is especially a strong help, when your company has a robust job scheduling policy for triggering when orders are released to a line (CONWIP-release, material availability condition etc.). Forecasting methods are not described in this book and can be found mainly in Operations books (as factory physics etc.). Although it is not the aim of this book to provide information about forecasting and methods, I strongly recommend to spend some times about supply chain management and to learn about the basic flaws of forecasting as bullwhip-effects and other pitfals leading to a bad performance when applying S&O Planning. The farer your forecasts reach, the worse any prediction will be - so reducing operational and office lead-time goes hand in hand with any succesfull S&O Planning.

The integration of the Central and Eastern European transition countries into the European Union is one of the most exciting economic policy issues of today. The book provides a detailed analysis of the economic effects which EU integration has on accession countries. It shows that these countries have already managed to fully remove the anti-trade bias with the EU that existed before the fall of the iron curtain. Benefits from further integration into the EU could result in particular from the fact that full membership in the European Community will increase the credibility of government policy in accession countries. The study explores in depth how these credibility effects can be quantified. The author develops a novel approach to model the transformation process within a dynamic computable general equilibrium framework. Furthermore, he estimates the potential income and welfare effects of EU integration for Poland, the largest transition country with EU candidate status.
