How things used to be, not how they are today. Old processes, old way of doing things. Unfortunately, there's really nothing else out there to fill the gap - this may be the best available. Be warned, if you want to set up a proactive purchasing department, this is not how to do it.

Gerry Riskin uses short, practical examples taken from every-day practice to help attorneys focus on situations they certainly will be faced with at some point in their careers.

      The CD's of "The Successful Lawyer" are also a great teaching tool for individuals who spend time commuting in the car. Riskin effectively uses brief chapters to move the reader from topic to topic.

      This book and CD set would be a valuable gift for any newly admitted attorney.

      Legal consultant Gerald Riskin does a remarkable job of forcing practicing attorneys to look at their practice objectively, particularly from a client's point of view. He suggests early on that readers mark up the margins or keep a journal - good advice! I kept a list of pointers as I read to prioritize later. The author notes astutely that no lawyer is likely to do a full practice makeover, but anyone can read this book and come away with 3-4 things they can do immediately, at little or no expense, to improve their practice. By incorporating Riskin's suggestions, in manageable chunks of 3-4 at a time, any lawyer can expand their practice and (best of all) make their practice more satisfying. It is hard to imagine any attorney coming away from this very readable book without 20 or more ideas of things they want to change in their practice.

      This book was heavily hyped by Tom Peters in one of his blogs, and as most of you probably know, Tom Peters don't promote no garbage!

      This is a great book and well worth any professional taking the time to read . . . cover to cover. Bring a fresh highlighter to mark your favorite to-do's, a pen and your diary to post your personal action plans, and you will soon be on track to transforming your practice.

        Francois-Xavier Chevallier's work is truly exceptional. The book has given the right momentum to the thought of economic phenomena proceeding by alternative phases of expansion and comparison. The book has certainly taken me to the Golden Age. The Marvellous clock depicted in the book has made me think about the next up wave that is round the corner as suggested by the book. If the Central Bankers would have thought in the lines of Fed's Chairman and emphasized on the long wave phenomena then they would have been able to avert the recessionary period the world is witnessing now. This book is definitely worth having in the Library. It would have scored a top star rating if the author had explained how Greenspan read the early signals and pulled out the US from the down wave. However, the author requires aprreciation for his work in putting forward the Long Wave Theory through this book with statistical validation. The best part of the book is how the Kondrateiff Cycle is examined and compared with the present scenarios.

          Of the many factors that can affect how the capitalist spirit develops in a country, one which is often overlooked is that of entrepreneurship. In lands where capitalism is unfettered by unnecessary regulation and where entrepreneurship is dynamic, impressive economic gains and advancements can be expected. Entrepreneurship is perhaps one of the greatest driving forces of capitalism. Indeed, the two are inseparable.

          Most people can only dream about becoming wealthy. They have all the wrong ideas. Only a certain portion of the world's population ever achieves wealth. Even in the United States, only a few get wealthy. There is a reason why only a few people produce most of the wealth in the world. It's because the majority of people have no interest in taking charge of their future. They keep waiting around for someone else to do it for them. Only those who are accustomed to taking charge of the world around them, and creating opportunities for themselves, will see the advantages of entrepreneurship.

          Prosperity for the individual is the only real way to benefit society. Your personal success will do more to improve the world than hundreds of bureaucrats and their useless regulations.

          Consider what your world might be like should you be given the power to do exactly what you wanted to do with your life.

          We ask you to dream. Expand your personal horizons to include all the world — not the limited world you may have known most, or all, of your life — but the world beyond and all its infinite possibilities.
