Book Description
Shortlisted for the Inaugural International Political Economy Group annual book prize
'...amongst the most important books yet written on globalization'
- Review of International Political Economy
"In this original and very accessible work Cameron and Palan make a major contribution to the narrative turn in political economy. Skillfully combining sustained theoretical critiques and contemporary empirical analyses, this politically engaged book promotes a paradigm shift that sheds new light on the changing relations among the economy, the political, and the social. It will quickly become a major reference point for its account of globalization as a persuasive story and a flawed reality. I recommend it unreservedly"
Bob Jessop
How do theories, discussions and debates about globalisation shape the very subject they reflect on? How are conceptions of the state, society and politics are changing in the age of globalisation?
This book critically introduces the main contemporary debates on globalization and demonstrates how conventional versions or narratives of globalization have served to shape policy responses at both state and corporate levels.
Rather than accepting the disintegration of the state thesis, the authors present an alternative transition from the nation-state as a homogenous `imagined community', to a more complex and fluid series of normative economic spaces or `imagined economies'. They illustrate how this respatialization of the contemporary state is rapidly taking shape in concrete institutions, processes, people and places serving to recast the boundaries of the social, political and economic in fundamental ways.
By accessibly demonstrating the way in which the discourse of globalization has itself become an integral part of the politics of globalization,
The Imagined Economies of Globalization serves as an ideal introduction to key contemporary debates in politics, international relations, geography, international political economy and sociology.

Customer Reviews:
i guess some people need stuff like this..........2007-02-26
This book is okay for some people I suppose. I had to read this for a class, and it's not something I would normally seek out. The author is the editor of the ABA Journal, but isn't a lawyer.
To me, this seems like common sense written, printed, bound & sold. I naturally try to live a stress free life, anyway. Instead of buying this book, I would just have soon spent the money on some beers with friends--which I consider a much more effective way of dealing with stress, rather than reading what some guy with a collection of stories from his buddies thinks is the path to mental wellbeing.
If you're someone who is not very emotionally-minded (like me), I think you will probably agree with my bottom line assessment of the book: "meh".
As relevant as ever.......2004-07-18
OK, it has been a while now since this book came out, and since I read it cover to cover. (in the interests of full disclosure, I am in the book. But if you begin this book, you to will be compelled to keep reading! Honest!)
Anyone who is a lawyer, or married to one, needs to read this book. It explains what is missing in the legal profession and which eats away at those of us in or near it.
I think Steve was very courageous to pitch this as an article to the ABA Journal. (It was then to be entitled Law and Spirituality, but it became a book and took on a life of its own.) As a journalist closely attuned to, but not in, the profession, has a finely tuned ear for the symphony that is the legal world. As a journalist for the leading legal journal in this country, he has been attuned to the profession for a long time. he asked a few questions and folkowed the aanswers, an-- I think-- hit a mother lode.
Following the symphony metaphor, this book hits all the right notes-- Steve has perfect pitch. Law, and lawyers, need healing-- wholeness, balance. The public hates us and many of us hate ourselves. The stats for suicide, subtsance abuse and divorce are ugly. I can no longer bear to deal with most of my colleagues.
But a healing has begin due to this book. yes, I did say healing.
Thank you Steve!!! and you-- wondering if you should buy the book. the answer is YES!
A flawed but very valuable work........2001-12-09
Steven Keeva (who is not a lawyer but has spent many years observing and writing about them) here provides an assortment of advice, tips, and real-life examples to help you become a better lawyer and a better person. While I found much of the book to be old news, every 10 pages or so Keeva says something eye-opening, memorable, and truly instructive. The chapters on listening and service were, for me, the real pay-off, and I know I will be going back to them frequently. By contrast, his portrayal of litigators, trials, and especially corporate practice struck me as simplistic and a bit stereotyped. In addition, those who are unreceptive to the touchy-feely approach to problem-solving should be warned that this book is nothing if not touchy-feely. That said -- and notwithstanding my other qualifications -- this book is an *important* contribution to the literature of professionalism and lawyers' "mental hygiene" (as Prof. Stone of Harvard has called it). Since this book is also a quick read, every lawyer and law student who even suspects it may be helpful should give it a try and then keep it close at hand.
Staying in the practice, and enjoying it!.......2000-10-27
Transforming Practices truly is a gift to lawyers, like me, who have been practicing for many years and want to continue practicing law in a satisfying and meaningful way. This book has been one of my best investments, and I keep it on my desk at work. Reading, or in my case rereading, Steven Keeva's inspirational words provides a much needed boost in spirit, and a new way of looking at the legal life, even on a difficult day! My colleagues who have read this book wholeheartedly agree!
Keeva On Cutting Edge Of 21st Century Lawyering.......2000-09-29
Keeva's Transforming Practices is the book that heralds the new model for 21st Century lawyering. A must read for anyone interested in staying relevant and on the cutting edge of law in this fast changing world. Just as the Internet burst into our awareness just a few years ago and has become indispensible, the holistic law approach Keeva writes about will be demanded by millions of people. Those lawyers capable of offering such services will be at the forefront of the emerging legal revolution. For those who do not yet know how to offer such services, Transforming Practices shows you how. Whether on Main Street, USA or here at my firm on Wall Street, clients want and expect the type of lawyering Keeva writes about.

Book Description
This second of two volumes on issues surrounding oil and gas examines a succession of fundamental changes in the European energy economy during the last 40 years. Examined are the reasons why imported oil replaced indigenous coal as the primary energy source in the early post–World War II period; the discovery and exploitation of the North Sea basin’s hydrocarbons resources; and the evolution of the continent’s natural gas markets from the early 1960s, when it accounted for less than two percent of total energy used, to the current contribution of more than 25 percent and an expected eventual share of 35 percent of Europe’s energy supply. These powerful and complex dynamics of Europe’s energy sector are then put in the context of the broader political and economic structures and policies that have emerged over the last four decades.

Book Description
One of the most fundamental processes in business competition is inter-organizational learning. To create and distribute value across organizational boundaries companies need to learn from their competitors. Increasingly it is clear that the learning process depends on the creation of a complex set of networks across organizations. This book explores the creation of 'learning networks' and sheds light on how they function:- real versus virtual forms of interaction, collaboration versus competition in the learning process, and joint value creation versus individual value appropriation in networks. The contributing authors are leading international experts in the field of global strategy whose chapters have been selected for their insights into the interdependence between organizational learning and networks.

Book Description
Learning and Knowledge for the Network Society discusses technology, policy and management in a context much influenced by a dynamic of change and a necessary balance between the creation and diffusion of knowledge. It is largely grounded on empirical experiences of different regional and national contexts and addresses the dynamics of the process of knowledge accumulation, which drives a learning society. This fact is reflected in the trend in developed economies towards an increasing investment in advanced technology, research and development, education, and culture, but also in the process of inclusive development, which should be considered for less-developed countries. Concepts such as learning ability, creativity, and sustained flexibility gain greater importance as guiding principles for the conduct of individuals, institutions, nations, and regions. It is thus legitimate to question the traditional way of viewing the role that contemporary institutions play in the process of economic development and to argue for the need to promote systems of innovation and competence building based on learning and knowledge networks

Girl Get That Credit Right!!!!!.......2007-06-19
Wow! Ive Been Reading This Book & Must Say , That It Has Taught Me About So Many Things I Didnt Know About. This Book Has Educated Me in So Many Areas In Life,Its Taught Me About How We Should Manage Debt. Paying Bills On Time, My Credit Score, & So Much More. This Book Is A Must Read For All Women...
Nothing New.......2007-05-11
This book takes an interesting topic and makes it booooring. The author takes 50 pages worth of information and streeeetches it out to over 300 pages. Way too much verbiage. Basically, a rehash of information that's already been out in the news for years. Nothing new.
One of the main reasons I got this book was because I wanted to read the "101 Ideas to Increase Income." I wonder how many of these ideas the Sisters are going to be able to use:
Get a raise. (None of the Sisters could have thought of that one?)
Be an actress. (Like Hollywood is waiting.)
Own a vending machine.
Own an ATM. (It's getting funny now.)
Be a house sitter.
Be a singer. (Like Fantasia.)
Write plays.
Direct plays.
Be a comic strip artist.
And other equally "helpful ideas."
I'm sure Glinda is a very nice lady, but this book is a total disappointment.
Book Review.......2007-05-06
I would refer this book to anyone that's trying to take control of their credit score.
BLACK MARKETING ANGLE DUMB.......2007-04-10
GOOD BOOK VERY READABLE. GREAT CREDIT/DEBT ADVICE. IGNORE THE "BLACK CRAP" THE "WE ARE SO PUT UPON" STUFF THAT TRIES TO MAKE YOU THINK THAT MONEY CARES WHAT COLOR YOUR SKIN IS. CREDIT REPORTS DO NOT HAVE A RACE BLOCK TO FILL IN. WHITES, BLACKS, EVERYONE SHOULD READ THIS. ITS JUST GOOD BUSINESS ADVICE. I ALSO OWN GIRL:MONEY AND GIRL:MONEY GROW. ALL OF THE SET ARE VERY GOOD. BUT, TOO MUCH "BLACK" CRAP, WHY WE LET OUR MEN USE US AND JUNK.
Girl, Get this Book!!!.......2007-02-08
I recently went to her book signing in Atlanta and bought all three of her books. She is an awesome author. I am a forty something woman who makes a good living just made a lot of mistakes. This is an excellent book to help you straighten out a mess that you have made in easy terms to understand. We have all had our share of credit "issues" but this will put you back on track. It is not just for sisters, it is for men and women, black and white or others with credit problems but want a book that is easy to understand for the regular person and it will help you. I can not wait until her next book signing to tell her where I am in "Getting my credit straight"!!!

Or hiding out in general.......2004-02-26
This book may be a little old, but it has some absolutely essential information in it for someone with credit problems or hiding out from an abusive spouse or ANYONE who is trying to find you for ANY reason. Also, has invaluable information on how the creditors or anyone else who might be looking for you manages to find you out. The bankruptsy info is a little dated because of new laws, but there is still some good credit management material that would be timely and useful to anyone. Check out the loompanics site for more or call their order line 8003802230.

Beyond the Spanish State is a well researched and accessibly written study of EU policy-making in Spain. From the fishermen in Andalusia fighting to protect their quotas, to regional governments demanding a greater say in EU Structural Funds, the book represents a masterful effort to delve deeper into the dynamic relations between central government and other actors in the domestic arena. Conclusions most directly pertain to the case of Spain but, nonetheless, provide an insight into the broader EU framework.
