Book Description
The Urban Caribbean studies urbanization in five countries--Costa Rica, Haiti, Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, and Jamaica--during the 1980s and 1990s when the region's economy shifted from one heavily dependent on imports to one directed more to producing exports. This shift caused producers and entrepreneurs to rely more on microenterprises, thus challenging the informal economy networks of the central cities. Sociologist Alejandro Portes and the other contributors use rich, in-depth data to examine both qualitative and quantitative changes in these five countries. Their research method allows them to make generalizations applicable to all five economies while retaining the concreteness of the similarities and differences that make each country unique.

In the world of Textbooks this is pretty much the same. It is easy to read and it does have some nice examples.

I'm presently in law school, and Pre-Trial is being used as a textbook. Therefore, it is roughly organized from the perspective of teaching a student the art of trial prep. There are other books more worthy. So, remember this is essentially a textbook.

Description:
Against the background of the significant acceleration of the pace of financial globalization, this paper examines the features of the phenomenon and the challenges they pose for national financial sector development. Although financial globalization confers notable benefits, it also entails huge costs including financial crisis. The factors of weak banking system and poor regulation helped to exacerbate the financial crises of the 1990s. The paper, therefore, stresses the need for sound macroeconomic policies, orderly liberalization of capital accounts, adequate preparation of national financial systems and meeting other pre-conditions for countries to reap the benefits of financial globalization at minimum costs.
