Book Description
This work provides a unified and simple treatment of dynamic economics using dynamic optimization as the main theme, and the method of Lagrange multipliers to solve dynamic economic problems. The author presents the optimization framework for dynamic economics in order that readers can understand the approach and use it as they see fit. Instead of using dynamic programming, the author chooses instead to use the method of Lagrange multipliers in the analysis of dynamic optimization because it is easier and more efficient than dynamic programming, and allows readers to understand the substance of dynamic economics better. The author treats a number of topics in economics, including economic growth, macroeconomics, microeconomics, finance and dynamic games. The book also teaches by examples, using concepts to solve simple problems; it then moves to general propositions.

An alternative to Lucas, Sargent and recursive methods.......2004-01-18
Most grad students are taught to solve dynamic equilbrium problems using recursive methods. Two of the prominent books that I am familiar with are:
* Thomas Sargent's Dynamic Macroeconomics
* Lucas and Stokey's Recursive Methods in Economic Dynamics
(Note: I see that Sargent has another volume out, Recursive Macroeconomic Theory, with Lars Ljungqvist.)
Chow's book presents a Lagrangian method for dynamic optimization. This is a far easier approach than recursive methods, as anyone who is familiar with simple calculus will attest. Chow presents the method then --and this is the real value of this book-- systematically applies it to familiar market equilibrium, financial, business cycle, game theory, and growth models (all dynamic, of course).
BENEFITS:
* Chow's Lagrangian method removes mathematical obstacles to understanding important macroeconomic models
* Chow is a good writer, and this book is far easier to understand than the two books listed above
* This is a great reference for grad students looking for foundations for your own research

Book Description
This book deals with the impact that international trade is likely to have on the skilled-unskilled wage gap in a typical developing economy. This is the first theoretical monograph on this particular issue which has already generated substantial debate and voluminous work for the developed countries. A unique feature of this work is that it tries to explain the possibility of rising inequality across trading nations and looks at the segmented labour markets of the poor economies. It makes convincing arguments that the standard general equilibrium models, the main workhorse of trade theory, can be given a creative facelift to address a number of critical and emerging issues in the area of trade and development.

Book Description
Most businesses are founded on just two organizing principles-efficiency and effectiveness. To achieve greater prosperity, businesses need to use a third organizing principle-optimization. This book explains how to identify where value-as much as 20 percent-gets trapped. Here are tips on analyzing processes that don't work, identifying when value is withheld by people who are not encouraged to do their best, and recognizing how potential is dissipated in weak links with customers. Explanations are given on how to reclaim value by creating a productive culture, find the right service approach for customers, and improve existing processes. Case studies, models, and examples are drawn from such leading firms as Coca-Cola, Disney, Levi Strauss, Texas

Book Description
A professional “pitching coach” for one of the world’s largest marketing conglomerates, Jon Steel shares his secrets and explains how you can create presentations and pitches that win hearts, minds, and new business. He identifies the dos and don’ts and uses real-world examples to prove his points. If you make pitches for new business, this is the perfect book for you.
Customer Reviews:
Creative Thinkerer.......2007-09-07
It's a hard book to pigeonhole, as you can tell from the other reviews. It's quite applicable to people in agency life, but it's by no means an ad-person's book. If your life involves coming up with creative ideas and convincing other people to buy into them, it's very worth your time. Yeah, there are some tangents, most are diversions to make a point. Every 10-15 pages I tagged things I want to return to later to put to use. Lots of good thought-starters about what to do (and perhaps more importantly what to leave out) to get people excited about your ideas.
The Art of Presenting to People.......2007-06-23
Advertising is a people business, I guess, so is canabalism. This book centres you back to the concept that presenting is persuading, selling and entertaining. Do your homework, prepare and enlighten. I use to work in advertising, but now sell jobs for the army. I have taken what he has expressed on board and used to my advantage. I no longer present by 'Death by Light Pro', but engage my audience and use Jon Steels suggestions to help my candidates make informed decissions. Thank you Mr Steel. I reconmend this book for all in business.
A big favor..........2007-03-07
Jon Steel did us all a great favor. A great favor to business people. A great favor to presenters and those who must sit through those presentations.
This book makes you realize things you wouldn't think about when preparing for a presentation. It helps you understand that everything you say during a presentation must reflect what your big idea is. It would make us approach presentations differently. Presentations are conversations. Hey, we are presenting to real people! Let's treat them as such...
It is clear that the goal of this book is to make us all better idea-sellers, not only in the field of advertising. Jon Steel writes some great "to-do" lists, suggesting the best ways to approach certain situations. However, those "to-do" lists are backed up with personal experiences that make this book much more enjoyable and easy to read.
From the mentioning of Bill Clinton's presidential campaign, OJ Simpson's trial and "The Perfect Pitch" - London 2012 Olympic bid presentation - this book shows that good presentations not only win new businesses...
Re-discovering the art of engaging storytelling .......2006-12-18
Jon Steel is a rare breed of truly smart, creative thinkers. Though originally from an advertising background, The Perfect Pitch is by no means simply an "advertising book." It is a book about ideas and how to sell them, regardless of your business.
Jon believes that in business we all too often hide behind boring Powerpoint slides as it is easier to simply read from a slide than it is to step out and actually engage with your audience. He believes in finding an active insight from which to base the strategy and thinking and from there, developing an engaging and motivating story.
Essentially in a pitch situation you have a limited period of time to connect with your audience and involve them in the story you are telling. It's not about animated slides or embedded video links.
William Goldman, the scriptwriter, has a very similar premise in Adventures In the Screen Trade. He too talks about the critical importance of the pitch (in his case, pitches for movies) Goldman highlights the importance of finding the hook that captivates and motivates your audience.
Having had the pleasure of working with Jon, in fact on one of the pitches that he references in the book, it is fair to say that he practises what he preaches. The advice he gives is refreshingly free from jargon and rooted in simple common-sense that sometimes we can forget.
This book is an essential tool for anyone who is ever in pitch situations with their clients.
More than an anti-powerpoint rant.......2006-11-12
It would be easy to dismiss (or embrace) Jon Steel's book as a tirade against powerpoint. To say that at worst it's nothing more than a tirade against the poor use of a presentation tool (actual clip art died around the same time as the Queen Mother didn't it?) and that at best that it's an intelligent attack on a tool that has changed the way that we think. Both arguments miss the point. Yes turning Winston Churchill's best speech into PowerPoint is the highlight of this book but it's one point amongst many.
What this book seems to me to be about is creating the space, time and atmosphere needed to think. Whether that means taking a sledgehammer to your blackberry or your officemates to a baseball game the message remains the same - you win business when you have better ideas than other people; and you have better ideas than other people when you allow your subconscious to do some of the work.
Yes the book occasionally meandors, but then so do the best brains. Yes it draws on personal experience, yes it works its way through some seemingly unconnected thoughts, returning to connect only some of them - but then isn't that the central argument in the book. It's the curious mind that wins the day.
So whilst this isn't a bullet pointed, Donald Trump-esque WIN. AT. ALL. COSTS. BY. DOING. IT. THE. BILLIONAIRE. WAY. ! ! ! ! kind of book it is a kinder, gentler, more human, more nuanced and ultimately more insightful peek behind the curtain of big business and what it takes to get the people with the big bucks to buy your ideas.
Perfect Pitch may not be the book that thrusting young American execs may think that they need, it won't be on the shelves of any of the 'contenders' on The Apprentice - which is why so many of their ideas will be as predictable as their hairstyles.

Book Description
Ride the Wave into the 21st Century!
In the ground-breaking Wave 3,
Richard Poe revealed how the new world of computers has liberated network marketing from its humble beginnings to offer an unprecedented professional opportunity for financial freedom. Now, in
Wave 4, Poe shows how the marriage between the Internet and people-to-people sales will accelerate the growth of network marketing.
Poe predicts that this new technology-driven wave will sweep up in its wake millions of people who have never before considered network marketing. In addition, he explains how the Internet, coupled with the touch of good old-fashioned personal attention, will revolutionize direct selling, as the demand for new products and services explodes beyond borders.
We live in exciting times. Millions of people around the world are dreaming of starting up their own businesses.
Wave 4 shows them how network marketing can help them achieve exciting financial goals in the 21st century!
"A splendid read, not only for network marketers, but for anyone wishing to thrive in the home-based economy of the 21st century. Richard Poe cuts through the hype, with insight and objectivity, presenting an unusually clear-headed view of this exciting new business frontier."—
Dr. Stephen R. Covey, author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
"
Wave 4 is a tidal wave, carrying new millennium surfers into rich ports of call."—
Dr. Denis Waitley, author of The Psychology of Winning for the 21st Century
From the Trade Paperback edition.
Customer Reviews:
Waiting Wave 5 book, but will settle for Wave 4.......2006-02-18
Richard Poe offers insight and encouragement in building on each of the Wave books. I really enjoyed the chapters on automated downlines and the e-commerce frontier. Bring on the future.
Get ready for a "Tidal Wave" of succe$$!!!!.......2005-09-27
Having been a veteran in network marketing for now over 30 years, I had the opportunity to build businesses through Wave 1 and Wave 2 and Wave 3. They were the difficult days. Wave 3 was better but now as we enter Wave 4, look out. The Tidal Wave is coming.
Network Marketing has finally come of age. And while it is not fully accepted by the general public yet (when it does, it will be too late) the business is easier now than ever.
Wave 4 explains where the industry has been but even better, where it is going. The combination of the internet with network marketing will provide a Tidal Wave of opportunity for those perceptive enough to get involved.
I see some people have a negative attitude towards MLM/Network marketing and a few have been burned. That is understandable. MLM/Network marketing is like any other business. While we have many good, hard working honest people, there are also some corrupt, take the money and run kinds as well. That is why it is more important than ever to carefully check the company you are looking to get into.
Wave 4 offers some insight on what to look for in a company. It tells success stories and profiles companies that are doing extremely well. If you are one of those people who thinks that MLM/Network Marketing is illegal, or a pyramid scheme, you definitely need to read Wave 4 and get with the times.
Network Marketing is the wave of the future. Get on board or watch it pass you by!
The Ultimate.......2005-08-28
Just a Super Book! One of the best I've read.I've found the best company too with the help of it.Check it out!

You have to work.......2005-07-02
This book clearly spells out how the distribution industry is changing, which is network marketing. Network marketing is simply a distribution channel from the manufacturer to the consumer. WalMart and Amazon are excellent examples of this. Have you ever recommended a good restaurant to a friend? You're a network marketer and the restaurant just gained a new client without advertising.
Where people go wrong and then share their 'bad' experience is that they don't WORK. One can't just register with a company, occasionally discuss it, wimp around and not do the work. In my 6 years of successful experience, I have found that those who 'fail' didn't do the work and quit. If you fail to show up for your job, you'll lose your job.
My only reason for rating this 4 stars is that some of it is written in language/concepts that are hard to grasp by those who have never been in network marketing.
Have an open mind and you'll see the Network Marketing profession as a profession!
puzzled.......2004-08-10
Richard Poe predicts that network marketing is the wave of the future?????
After a couple of ineterviews, I see that network marketing has a very bad name. A lot of people have been burned with this method and most of the people don't even want to talk anymore about this industry.
In my humble opinion, I believe this book in many ways is obsolete. I highly respect Poe for his previous books like the Einstein Factor which is really impressing.
In conclusion, this book can be very misleading and create false expectations for becoming wealthy or having a decent residual income. Poe puts examples of industries that people simply don't want to hear anymore about them.
Sincerely,
Roberto Zuniga

My name is Gabriela Earl. I am the wife of the author and am his biggest fan, and have been for the past 29 years. He practices what he preaches, but most importantly truly cares about people. He lives his life by the motto that "The things we do for ourselves die with us...and the things we do for others, carry on for all eternity". The book will change your life and will inspire you to get out of the city of compromise and onto the city of possibilites. This is a must read not only for network marketers but for everyone wanting to excel in any endeavor. We have lived this book together in the past 25 years of working in the network marketing industry . It is not a how to book, it is a book of who you need to become to work your busienss through attraction vs. promotion. Follow the precepts of this book and you will begin to attract everything you ever wanted in life...We have...
Service and Leadership -- The Pillars of Network Marketing.......2002-11-03
Upon opening this book, one will immediately realise the lack of a content page. According to the author, the book was written in this way so that one would have to read the entire book cover-to-cover in order to make any sense of it, and he is confident that anyone who wants to know, badly enough, what network marketing is all about will do exactly that.
There are twenty principles of network marketing in the book, and these can be grouped broadly into service and leadership categories. In the service category, the author explains the higher concepts of service to humanity and why this is essential to success in network marketing. In the leadership category, he justifies the hard work and sacrifices a person must make in order to become the most vaunted of leaders: a leader of people.
Throughout the book, the author cautions against falling into the habit of the ways of the false leader, or Zirconia as he calls them. He lashes out critically against people who would call themselves leaders and then leave all the work for their followers to do. He stresses time and again that while a true leader, a Diamond, and a Zirconia look the same on the surface, only the Diamond will truly succeed in uplifting the lives of others, while the Zirconia will leave a trail of failed ventures as he shifts to the next opportunity offering easy rewards for almost no work.
The book itself is easy to read, with a flowing, conversational style of writing that makes one feel that the author was speaking to one directly. Personal anecdotes, from the lives of the author himself and the people he has personally known, as well as those of famous personalities in human history, are interspersed throughout the book, and provide a touching and human side to the concepts they are used to convey.
All in all, this book is an excellent read and is a must-have for the serious network marketer wants to succeed, not only in terms of money, but also in terms of improving the lives of others, and leading them on to greatness.
A true teacher with a sincere heart!.......2002-01-26
After my 5th time in 5 weeks listening to Drew's "Psychology of Network Marketing" I honestly feel I'm on my way to a successful future. I'm 48 years old and have tried many times to follow through on building an organization in MLM. With Drew's help I'm focused on achieving my goals by reading them daily and constantly writing 'positive affirmations' to keep my attitude soaring. It is easy to understand why he is such a success in life.
This book is about Life not just network marketing........1999-09-28
I recently had the pleasure of meeting Drew Earl, and more importantly listening to him speak. His stories were inspirational, and he truely conveyed the feeling that his sole purpose for being there was there to help me (us). I got the same feeling while reading this book 2 days later. If the lessons in this book do not help you to make positive changes in your life, it is only because you do not want to change.

Book Description
The chapters provide a wide-ranging view of issues addressing how advertisers can proceed on the Internet and World Wide Web. An initial chapter traces the development of Web advertising from its very beginnings as it was represented and discussed in the pages of i Advertising Age /i . Although there is a noticeable trend to define Web advertising by comparing it to traditional media, it is clear that Web advertising just won't fit the old mold. Keith Reinhard of DDB Needham actually articulates this linkage between the old and new in his invited chapter. br br What the reader will encounter in i Advertising and the World Wide Web /i is a solid conception of how Web advertising is different from anything that has come before. There are numerous discussions on consumer and advertiser interactivity, the role of Web advertising within larger campaigns, audience segmentation, and alternative Web-based promotion formats. The five sections cover definition and theory, structure, specific applications, legal issues, and the voice of the practitioner. Although there remain a few nay-sayers concerning the future of Web advertising, the reader will be able to see just how incredibly high-impact this new medium has become and the vast potential that it holds for future promotional endeavors. br

Can smooth the rough edges of almost any encounter.......2004-12-16
The Art Of Persuasion is a must-read for salespeople in all venues. It instructs the reader in techniques that have been refined since the 1970's, though practiced for eons before then, concerning the networking and rapport-building skilles salespeople use to form connections with others and move their goods. According to The Art Of Persuasion, salespeople are "the ultimate street-corner psychologists" - the ability of a truly expert salesperson to connect with and understand how his client thinks is worthy of a top-dollar mental health professional. The Art Of Persuasion explains in detail how Neurolinguistic Programming, or NLP, can be used to foster such connections - whether by something as simple as speaking in visual terms to another who does the same, to more complex dealings with intractible individuals. Human interaction skills will give the reader the ability to close sales that seemed impossible before, yet The Art Of Persuasion is enthusiastically recommended for anyone who has to interact daily with others - the skills delineated can smooth the rough edges of almost any encounter.
Sales persuasion at it's best.......2003-07-25
"The Art of Persuasion" is specifically geared toward sales persuasion. Although most of the information could be used in other situations where you find the need to influence others this is not the primary focus. On the other hand, if you want to be a better sales person, if you want customer loyalty and satisfaction, if you want to prevent "buyers remorse", or find yourself in need of any other sales related influencing techniques this may be just what you are looking for.
The book is laid out like a workbook so you can practice what you are learning. It has one of the best sections I have seen on building rapport and choosing words that the other person can quickly identify with. It also has a fine section on how to elicit the appropriate information from the prospect in order to help them get the value they need from a purchase.
"The Art of Persuasion" is well organized and presents the information in an easy to understand, and more importantly easy to implement manner. It is a recommended purchase for anyone in the sales related field.

Book Description
The International Monetary Fund has been criticised from both the right and the left of the political spectrum with the right arguing that it is too interventionist and creates more problems than it solves and the left on occasion demanding that it be abolished altogether. What seems almost beyond question is that the IMF needs to be reformed.
Defining a future role for the IMF will always be a controversial issue, but vital to any considerations will be a measured assessment of how it has operated in the past. This excellent new book from an internationally respected expert on the IMF intends to do just that. Starting with an historical background tracing the evolution of the IMF, the book goes on to cover such themes as:
*The circumstances under which countries turn to the IMF
