Roberto Gonzalez Echevarria Manufacturer: Yale University Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover Similar Items: ASIN: 030010992X |
Book Description
The consolidation of law and the development of legal writing during Spain’s Golden Age not only helped that country become a modern state but also affected its great literature. In this fascinating book, Roberto González Echevarría explores the works of Cervantes, showing how his representations of love were inspired by examples of human deviance and desire culled from legal discourse.

Nonconfrontation Selling... the One-On-One Revolution
John Downes Manufacturer: Writers Club Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback ASIN: 0595007503 |
Book Description
NonConfrontation Selling is the opposite of what a sales prospect anticipates, and precisely what he desires. The automotive business serves as the perfect model for the reader to discover its various precepts and principles, which may be applied to any product or service...from the intial meet and greet through the delivery of the product or service. It began in 1979 when a sales manager at a California dealership presented a counteroffer to a prospect in very unusual fashion without reducing the selling price at any time during the transaction. The prospect liked it and purchased the product. Thousands of repetitions caused the same result. What occured never had been attempted before, because it went against the grain of the status quo, and 'experience' said it couldn't work. It did, though, and NonConfrontation Selling was born.
Some of its ingredients include Bambi Meets Godzilla, FBI Interrogation School Questions, Carrots, Teeter Totters, Principle of Games, Command Phrases, Raygun Bullets, Matching Up, Degree Questions, Weasels, Rare, and the Twelve Commandments.
Selling's nature implies a confrontation between the seller and prospect, since the objectives of each are at cross purposes to maintain a bargaining position. How NonConfrontation Selling resolves that reads like a psychological thriller.

Changing the Performance: A Companion Guide to Arts, Business and Civic Engagement
Julia Rowntree Manufacturer: Routledge ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback ASIN: 0415379342 |
Book Description
Changing the Performance: A Companion Guide to Arts, Business and Civic Relations is an inspiring manual for arts practitioners concerned with the relationship between business, the arts and wider society, and particularly those engaged in fundraising.
Julia Rowntree gives a fascinating account of her experiences forging the business sponsorship campaign at the London International Festival of Theatre (LIFT). Faced with a funding crisis in the early 1990s, LIFT responded with a radical experiment in business arts relations - the LIFT Business Arts Forum - in which young students and people from private and public sectors are invited to attend the theatre together and imagine how they might do their work differently as a result of this shared experience.
This book proposes that fundraising for the arts is much more than simply a function for generating income. It fulfills an ancient social role of connection across levels of power, expertise, culture, gender and generation. Rowntree describes why these dynamics are vital to society's ability to adapt. Raising intriguing questions about common ground between artistic, social and commercial innovation, this book offers a new model for the theory and practice of financing the arts.

From Promise To Performance: A Journey of Transformation at SmithKline Beecham
Robert P. Bauman Manufacturer: MCGRAW-HILL/ TAB ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0875846343 |
Book Description
Here are lessons from the personal experience of the team that led one of the most successful transnational corporate mergers of all time-the transformation of SmithKline Beckman and the Beecham Group into SmithKline Beecham, a leading international health care company. The authors recount their thinking and actions as well as the successes, failures, and lessons learned. Through the story of the merger, they present a framework of five requisites for creating a culture of change: instilling a winning attitude, making the organization the hero, striving for continuous learning, instituting strategic communication, and aligning behavior with strategy. For managers, this account offers a rare, behind-the-scenes glimpse into how a major company aligned its business actions and behavior to be competitive in a rapidly changing industry, and how others can create an environment in which the ability to change sustains success.Customer Reviews:

Privatization and Economic Performance
Manufacturer: Oxford University Press, USA ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0198773439 |
Book Description
One of the most enduring legacies of the 1980s has been the programme of privatizations that the Thatcher government set in train in the first half of the decade. Whole sectors of the UK economy which were formerly part of the public sector were sold off to the private sector. Some were bought out by their employees; others were bought by the public at large. Some public services were contracted out to the private sector; others were placed on a more commercial footing. The UK privatization programme had an influence on economic policy throughout the world. Privatization programmes were initiated in Asia, South America, and Africa, as well as Europe and North America. The most recent to experiment with privatizations have been the East European countries which have seen privatization as the fastest route to move from socialism to capitalism. The purpose of this book is to stand back and examine what has been learnt from the extensive programme of privatization that the UK government has completed, and to consider what aspects of privatization remain to be done. This book attempts to evaluate different sectors of the UK economy over the past 10 years. It examines what has happened and why, where have been the successes and failures, what lessons can be learnt for the design of privatization programmes elsewhere and what can the UK government still can do usefully in this area.

Britain's Relative Economic Performance 1870-1999 (Research Monograph, 55)
Nicholas Crafts Manufacturer: Inst of Economic Affairs ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback ASIN: 0255365241 |
Book Description
Judgments about Britain's economic performance are constantly being made, often based on inadequate evidence. In this paper, Professor Nicholas Crafts, one of Britain's leading economic historians, assembles the evidence, places recent performance in a long run context and makes informed judgments about whether Britain is suffering from absolute or relative decline. His book is a mine of information about economic trends since the 1870s, giving details of the GDP, productivity, investment, educational attainment, taxation and other statistics which are relevant if proper assessments of economic performance are to be made. One of his conclusions is that the economic reforms which began with the Thatcher governments, and which have broadly been continued under New Labour, have made a difference, avoiding some of the 'government failures' of earlier years. How managers respond to the revolution in information and communications technology is now a key factor in determining Britain's future performance.
