Since publication of the first edition of this book, the social, political and economic landscape of South-East Asia has changed dramatically. In only a relatively short period, the region has experienced economic boom followed by economic bust, accompanied by severe political upheaval. This second edition thoroughly revises and updates the first in its attempt to address recent events and the way in which they are interpreted by political economists. The authors explain the dramatic changes under way in South-East Asia through a particular understanding of the inseparability of economic and political processes. Within this framework, they examine such developments as the overthrow of Soeharto, the problems of corruption and money politics, and the 1997-98 financial crises. These are explained as part of a continuing process of conflict among contending interests attempting either to forge new regimes or preserve old ones. The latest crises are viewed as part of the broad sweep of ongoing capitalist revolutions across the region. Featuring both new and fully revised chapters, this is a dynamic and timely text.

GREAT study aid.......2007-09-22

This book was extremely helpful! I found it to be most useful when I read it after I read the course readings(as a review tool)...but of course, you should do whatever helps you learn best. However,I must stress, as tempted as one may get, DO NOT substitute it for the actual case readings!! There are a lot of details that are not mentioned in the horn book that law professors are interested in...and they test you on what THEY think is important, not what you think is.

There Are More Useful.......2001-07-11

As a first year law student, I bought this book thinking it would help me and supplement the class. However, I found this book not very useful. In fact, I found it frustrating. I would find it brief in the places I needed the most hope and long and drawn out over issues that were simple. While the book does a nice job of covering basic concepts like mens rea {sorry if spellings wrong its been two years), I felt uncomfortable using it for specific crimes. Too often because either you're working from a model code or your own state's law, this book was only good for a general perspective. In addition, I feel that if you want something to help you and something more than the Emmanuel's, I recommend the "Understanding" Series. I bought that as well for this class, and I felt it was much better written and was focused on helping you to learn the actual issues. This book should probablely be used, if at all by practitioner or individuals who have already studied the material (like for bar review). I would encourage you to go elsewhere for help in learning the material.

This excellent short handbook can benefit every salesperson. The author identifies 25 of the most pernicious sales fallacies and demolishes each one. Then, he replaces them with sound common sense advice. You could summarize the book quite handily in a few words: be honest and respect your customer, listen more than you talk, learn all you can and offer not just a standard product or service but a solution to the customer's problem. This isn't the sort of book you buy to read once. It is the kind of book you buy to keep in your desk drawer and glance at periodically. Be forewarned - the author is in the business of selling sales training, and doesn't make the mistake of giving away the secrets he sells. This volume takes an enlightened step back from the ongoing discussion of globalization. The authors reject the notion that globalization is an analytically useful term. Rather, this volume shows globalization as merely the framework of the current political debate on the future of world power. Some of the many other novel ideas advanced by the authors include: the explicit prediction that East Asia is not going to become the center of the world; the contention that the USSR collapsed for the same reasons that nearly brought down the United States in 1973; and the notion that the regional economic networks that are emerging from under the modern states are in fact rather old formations.
