Customer Reviews:
Highly disappointed.......2003-01-20
I read this book when I was in Kuwait. Sure it gives an interesting perspective on business, but the business principles mentioned aren't just harbored by the Kuwaiti's - they are held by all successful businesspeople around the world.
I was really disappointed at the poor quality of photographs, and the total lack of credit to the photographers or institutions the author and publisher stole them from. I expected a higher degree of professionalism in a "wealth enhancement" book.
Does this mean the Kuwaiti's condone stealing the works of others through the utter disregard of proprietary rights through the lack of proper attribution? I don't think so.
On the other hand, it was a good enough book to rate 2 stars because of the order in which the information was presented. However, I expected a lot more. I could have gone on to a web-site and found the same information without paying...
Buy at your own risk. You might find it an enjoyable read and it would be well-worth it. However, the author and publisher set a bad example for the above mentioned reasons.

201 Best Questions To Ask On Your Interview
ASIN: 0972269703 |
Book Description
The Law Firm Interview A Guide for Law Students is a non-fiction, how-to guide for students interviewing with law firms across the country. Ms. Schubert gained her perspective from five years (from - ) recruiting law students and practicing attorneys for two New York firms, Willkie Farr Gallagher and Proskauer Rose LLP. There is no book available to law students as rich in insider information and hard facts.
Customer Reviews:
It's all about school name, grades and ethnic background people.......2005-09-14
I think books like this one are deceitful. They make it seem like interviewing is actually an important component of the law firm recruitment process. Nothing could be further from the truth. When it comes to law firm recruiting, you could have Tom Cruise's looks (or Jennifer Aniston's looks, if you are female), James Earl Jones' voice, David Letterman's wit, Bill Clinton's charm, Richard Feynman's intelligence and Cicero's speaking ability. You still will not get the time of day from a large law firm during your on-campus interview if you are not a student at a top 14 U.S. News school and/or your GPA does not put you in the top 35% of students in your class and/or you are not a member of a favored ethnic group.
The author of this book, a former associate at Wilkie Farr, should know this. If she wanted to be helpful, she could have provided us with her former firm's GPA cut-offs, and she could have told us what GPA cut-offs other big firms use for students from various law schools. Instead, she feigns ignorance of how law firms actually hire and makes it seem like anyone has a chance if they just send a copy of their transcript, a nice cover letter and a typo-free resume to law firms and then interview well. Bosh!
Do you not believe me? Do you think I seem cynical? Do a little research for yourself. Pick out a big law firm you are interested in working for. Read the attorney biographies. Try to discern where the attorneys went to law school, what their grades were (cum laude? law review?) and what their ethnic background is (based on their surname and photo). I can guarantee that you will not find many attorneys with average grades from average law schools at the big firm in question. What does this mean for you? Well, you are probably out of luck at that firm if you have average grades from an average school--unless, of course, the firm has an aggressive affirmative action program and you qualify for it, or you go to the same temple as some of the attorneys from the firm and they can speak on your behalf.
Now that that is squared away, where does that leave us? Well, you are not getting an offer from a law firm if you are not a top student, are not from a top school or do not have favored ethnic status. If you have one of those things going in your favor, your life is made much easier. All you have to do is not blow it during your interviews. This is actually easy. Just don't sneeze on one of the attorneys, pick your nose during your interviews or state that one of your hobbies is watching soft-core porn videos. You should get the job if you have the right grades and school name. You may get a break even if you don't have those things going for you provided you have the right ethnic status.
Some may object to the frank nature of this review. I understand that. However, I believe that law firm applicants should have a realistic view of how the application process works. Ms. Schubert's book does not provide such a realistic view. Instead, it operates under the delusion that anyone has a chance provided that they interview well. It also operates under the delusion that school name, grades and ethnic background are not (in descending order) the three most important components of the law firm application process. Ms. Schubert is kidding herself. As an applicant, don't you also make the mistake of kidding yourself.
ok book .......2005-07-28
This book was ok, but could be improved. It is a very short book, but it could be made longer and would be more beneficial if more sample answers were given to sample interview questions.
Should be retitled "Jobs at Huge Law Firms for Top 5%".......2004-03-02
If you're not interested in a job with one of the big law firms, and/or aren't in the top of your law school class, skip this book. Though you wouldn't guess it from the book description or the other reviews, the book gives advice that just isn't appropriate in small or mid-sized firm applications; some of the advice, such as sending out transcripts with every resume, is just plain hurtful to most candidates. For a much more helpful book on the subject, read Kimm Walton's helpful 'Guerrilla Tactics for Getting the Legal Job of Your Dreams'.
a helpful guide for navigating the system.......2002-08-03
This book gave me an insider's perspective into the ways that law firms recruit, something I had no idea how to approach. It gave me extra confidence going into my interview, that made me feel articulate and comfortable. I aced all three of my interviews, and I am starting my new job on Monday!
This book is a must for any law student's book shelf.
Great advice inspires confidence.......2002-08-03
The Law Firm Interview is helpful and informative. It gives straightforward advice that is easy to follow. It makes the process of interviewing at a firm seem clear and easy, by illustrating possible scenarios and including straightforward lists of what to do, and what not to do. It is helpful for any job interview, but specifically details the politics and structures of a law firm with insider knowledge and advice. A must have for any law school student.

Book Description
Why should each country have its own exclusive currency? Eric Helleiner offers a fascinating and unique perspective on this question in his accessible history of the origins of national money.
Our contemporary understandings of national currency are, Helleiner shows, surprisingly recent. Based on standardized technologies of production and extraction, territorially exclusive national currencies emerged for the first time only during the nineteenth century. This major change involved a narrow definition of legal tender and the exclusion of tokens of value issued outside the national territory. "Territorial currencies" rapidly became bound up with the rise of national markets, and money reflected basic questions of national identity and self-presentation: In what way should money be managed to serve national goals? Whose pictures should go on the banknotes?
Helleiner draws out the potent implications of this largely unknown history for today's context. Territorial currencies face challenges from many monetary innovations-the creation of the euro, dollarization, the spread of local currencies, and the prospect of privately issued electronic currencies. While these challenges are dramatic, the author argues that their significance should not be overstated. Even in their short historical life, territorial currencies have never been as dominant as conventional wisdom suggests. The future of this kind of currency, Helleiner contends, depends on political struggles across the globe, struggles that echo those at the birth of national money.

Book Description
The U.S.-Mexico border is the busiest in the world, the longest and most dramatic meeting point of a rich and poor country, and the site of intense confrontation between law enforcement and law evasion. Border control has changed in recent years from a low-maintenance and politically marginal activity to an intensive campaign focusing on drugs and migrant labor. Yet the unprecedented buildup of border policing has taken place in an era otherwise defined by the opening of the border, most notably through NAFTA. This contrast creates a borderless economy with a barricaded border.
Peter Andreas argues that the sharp escalation in law enforcement provides a political mechanism for coping with the unintended consequences of past policy choices. Law enforcement is enthusiastically embraced as a remedy for the very problems state practices have helped to create. The high-profile display of force, Andreas emphasizes, has ultimately been less about deterring illegal crossings and more about re-crafting the image of the border and symbolically reaffirming the state's territorial authority.
Extending the analysis to the borders of the European Union, Andreas identifies different forms of law enforcement escalation that reflect distinct historical legacies and regional contexts. Andreas challenges the notion that borders are irrelevant in an age of globalization and stresses that, rather than eroding, some critical borders are being reinforced and remade.

Wake up America, and smell the Government Corruption!.......2005-05-24
What the heck is our Congress thinking of???? This book clearly lays out how easy it will be for terrorist to get us by easily crossing the border at will. Why is this still so??? If you like this book you should also read, "U.S. Customs, Badge of Dishonor" another narrative of our Government's border blunders.

Book Description
Written by a distinguished group of noted Latin American experts, this volume analyzes the complex economic relationship between the United States and Latin America during the 1980s and into the 1990s. As the editors assert at the outset, the United States has not had a cohesive policy toward Latin America since the Kennedy administration's Alliance for Progress. Instead, policy has vacillated, taking different positions on Latin American economic matters and requiring different actions on the part of Latin American governments. The essays collected here demonstrate in detail how the latent tensions among sometimes conflicting U.S. policy goals have been exacerbated by the economic crises of Latin America in the 1980s. Among the key topics addressed are the mounting debt crisis, privatization, Latin American integration, and the specific effects of U.S. policies on various aspects of Latin American economies. The volume begins with an in-depth analysis of Latin America's debt crisis which concludes that U.S. policy in this area has often worked against our long-term interest in Latin America's return to higher real growth. Subsequent essays examine the contradictory position of the United States toward Latin America with regard to debt and trade relations, develop a model of an indebted nation that can be used to simulate future real growth and external-debt accumulation, and compare the effects of privatization in four Latin American countries. The remaining essays evaluate the performance of Argentine and Brazilian public enterprises, look at the impact of direct and indirect U.S. policies on Latin America's labor sector, study the implications of financial liberalization policies, and discuss Latin American regional trade arrangements. This book will be of interest to scholars, policymakers, and executives who deal regularly with Latin American issues.

Hardbound. The global marketplace has changed significantly over the past two decades. Technological advancement, falling transportation costs and other impediments to trade in goods and services, increased mobility of capital, and more outward-oriented commercial policies in developed and developing countries alike are combining to create a truly integrated world economy. Firms are finding it increasingly essential to think globally. These developments pose important new questions and challenges to policymakers, the private sector, and academic scholars. The framework for studying economics and business has changed irreversibly to embody the global aspects of economic and policy interactions. Using cutting-edge innovations in the theory of international economics and new empirical applications, this book explores international economic links from a variety of perspectives. Power and Prosperity.......2006-06-22
Linkages between economics and national security in the Asia-Pacific region have become increasingly critical in the post-cold war era. While long-standing military concerns still abound, perceptions about the relative significance of each of the two sets of issues have shifted. Uncertainties have arisen over the reciprocal effects of economic ties on security preferences in individual Asian nations. Meanwhile the benefits of increasing economic interdependence both among smaller nations and with respect to the presence of four great powers in the region - Russia, China, Japan, and the United States - for the security situation in the region have come into question.
The Asia-Pacific region presents a microcosm of the global changes that have occurred since the end of the bipolar system of the cold war years. Whie the extraordinary economic performance of Asian contries is a strong determinant of international policy, many security issues remain unresolved and fraught with dangers. These include territorial disputes, nuclear proliferation, traditional national rivalries, and destabilization resulting from diminished U.S. military commitments.
Power and Prosperity brings together senior scholars, policy officials, and international journalists to provide diverse perspectives on regional dynamics and domestic intricacies in the Pacific Rim countries and to examine the effects of changing security patterns on economic relations and growth.
The contributions highlight the degree to which economic and security policies are connected and show how policymakers can build upon the positive dimensions of regional and international ties to increase trust and limit the development of securtity dilemmas. Contributors include: Kusuma Snitwongse; K.S. Nathan; Desmond Ball; John Zysman and Michael Borrus; Wang Jist; Tai Ming Cheung; James Clay Moltz; Tsuneo Akaha; Eiichi Katahara; and Chung-in Moon.
