While human capital is a clear determinant of economic growth, only recently has health's role in this process become a focus of serious academic inquiry. By marrying the separate fields of health economics and growth theory, this groundbreaking book explores the explicit mechanisms by which a population's individual and collective health status affects a nation's economic development and performance. International leaders from both fields have contributed original essays that employ theoretical and empirical perspectives on the relationship between health and economic growth, including the relevant interconnections with investment in education, family planning, and productivity.

Each of the book's five sections deals with a different aspect of this dynamic. These include the channels through which health human capital generates both higher income and individual well-being; the impact of health on long-run development, economic growth, and poverty reduction; the link between human capital levels and fertility and mortality rates, with models that analyze demographic and epidemiological transitions; the quantitative effect of better health on labor productivity and wages; and, finally, the devastating effects of AIDS -- in underdeveloped countries the most deadly, most economically adverse, and the surest barrier to growth -- on individual well-being and populations, and the prospects for incentives for developing new treatments. A concluding chapter integrates the different microeconomic and macrodynamic analyses and draws some policy conclusions for future study.

This book seems particularly well suited for applicants in the service and hospitality industry, sales, trades, and entry-level corporate positions.

However, I would NOT recommend this book as a resource for people seeking corporate jobs at above entry level. Though this book offers several examples of resumes for middle and senior level management, they are, to be kind, amateur at best.

This book describes how to write resumes and recommends an initial sample one so that writing the resume does not delay the job hunt. The 381 resumes are written by members of the Professional Association of Resume Writers and are organized by the job categories of the Occupational Outlook Handbook of the Department of Labor. It may be the first resume book to cover almost every job in the country. Includes commentary about good and bad points of paticular resumes. The book also describes JIST cards (TM) cover letters, and other examples of job search correspondence. Great ideas - Great Book.......2003-10-04

Keeping things organized and getting things done have always been difficult for me. I found Don's book very easy to read. It has some phenomenal tips and practical ideas that can be implemented right away. In today's hectic world, it is refreshing to find a book that helps to make life easier. I keep it by my nightstand and refer to it frequently, as it can be read straight through, or in bits and pieces by subject matter. The back of the book has a wonderful index that makes it easy to find what you're looking for. There is also a preferred reading list and a list of useful web sites. I recommend it for anyone who needs more organization in their life.

Don Wetmore's "Guide to Organizing your Life" is a well-thought out, thorough and easy-to-read time management book. If you read and implement even a quarter of the strategies, you would have many more hours in your day and much less stress as a result!

One of the most useful aspects of this book is its interactive exercises: the reader identifies their own strengths and weaknesses and is then provided with concrete, practical ways to develop better habits. Readers are empowered to live on purpose and always be thinking "what's in it. . . for me!"

I personally liked the weblinks that provided me with more or related information about each of the topics. The book is colorful with many photos that encourage a reader to keep reading.

I highly receommend this book for everyone: those who have never taken a time management course before AND those who have. It is a thorough book with lots for everyone.

Food for thought, information for action.......2001-08-06

For anyone who is looking to grab a piece of Internet pie, she or he could certainly do worse than to start with Priscilla Y. Huff's HerVenture.com as an appetizer.

Ms. Huff has done an admirable job of packing her book with plenty of jumping-off points for those who seek to make their living from their websites. Huff delves into everything from choosing a provider, to building the site, to providing great customer service. She also fills her pages with websites, addresses and book recommendations for the taking. Though the book is presented from a female perspective, we found nothing that could not be useful for the male as well.

The most helpful segments are the mini-interviews of existing and supposedly successful women webprenuers, who offer advice on financing, idea generation, resources and the like. We did take the time to visit some of the sites that were mentioned, and found that several were out of business, including one by high-profile author and web pioneer Aliza Sherman, and others were rather unattractive and unprofessional. This led us to wonder if the author took the time to visit the sites of the women she profiled. Nevertheless, the profiles will serve as inspiration for those who value the ingenuity and tenacity needed to succeed on today's Internet.

If you are feeling hungry for success, pull up at seat at Huff's table. You won't leave hungry.

When it comes to the Internet, what gets in the way for most small business owners is the newness of it all, the steep learning curve and the fact that there is so much to learn, much of it technical.
