As a senior operations professional and practitioner for over 20 years, I found this book to accurately portray the interrelation and organizational challenges that companies grope with on a continual basis, and yet provide the tenets to foster collaborative best practices in an interdisciplinary environment. It is richly humorous and straight to the point. Written in a fictitious manufacturing setting, the authors provide incredible connectivity across their main characters and a compelling story of leadership and management to exemplify their points and hypotheses, wise sages they are indeed. A very poignant look at management innovation, and lessons for furthering it. A must read for anyone intent on unlocking the true value of their enterprise by leveraging the knowledge, synergies, and functional dynamics of their organizational assets.

This book should be read by entry level to experienced business professionals who seek to assist their company in overcoming challenging situations through the use of knowledge management. "Inside Knowledge" is a useful guide for how to achieve employee peformance improvement & customer service oriented goals because it clearly explains how theoretical knowledge differs from pragmatic and profound knowledge and why theoretical knowledge does not best serve us in the workplace. One of the aspects I liked best in the book was how it unified owners, managers, and employees with concise approaches for how to get key players to work toward a common goal. The lessons provided by Fearon & Cavaleri are not only excellent business lessons, but also great lesons to be learned & applied to daily life.

An easily read description of the idea fostering a learning organization. Not only that, but a nail bitting story that demostrates how continuous improvenent through practical learning and experimenting can unfold. I would recomment the book to anyone who has faced a complacent workplace.

This book contains chronicles of seven industries of G3 (US, Japan, Europe) like semiconductor, computer, software, machine tool, chemistry, pharmaceuticals, and medical diagnostics. The aim of those chronicle documenting is to examine the effectiveness of existing models of industrial leadership or, in Porter¡¯s term, competitive advantage. There have been several theories like technology life cycle theory, punctuated equilibrium, dynamic comparative advantage, and the like. But authors argue that close examination of seven industries in this book dose not support those theories. Some industry fits into some theory, but not into others. According to authors¡¯ analysis, each industry shows very specific dynamic of competitive advantage. In some industry, for example, competitive advantage lies in firm level, in other, in industry level. They suspect that all-encompassing theory could not be developed. They seems to conclude that all we can do is to identify a set of factors affecting the dynamics of industrial leadership, such as resource endowment, its institutional embodiment, features of local market demand, and local technological condition. The industrial leadership is the function of the system of those factors, not individual factor. In my opinion, what they have in mind is not that different from Porter¡¯s conception of ¡®cluster¡¯. Overall points are reasonable. But it¡¯s far from conclusive enough to suggest some clear-cut picture to reader. And that, case studies of industries are far too cursory. In fact, in-depth study of various industries in a volume is definitely prohibitive task. And that, the aim of this book is at another. But I can¡¯t help thinking that this book is no more than preliminary trial.

      Full of factual errors, typos, misspellings and downright silly stuff, this "book" is truly no more than glossed-up marketing material for the company (Lingo Systems) which created it. Its value is accordingly neglible.

      Think of this "book" as hard-copy spam which YOU have to pay for.

      As a translator seeking more profound knowledge of the localization field, I found this book presented all the important issues. Their target is to educate software/web developers and others interested in internationalization & localization. I am recommending this book to such a company I work with, and would also propose it to others who want to know what is all this "Localization" stuff is about. Lingo Systems is a well reputed translation/localization firm in Portland, OR. Another great book for localization specialists is the one by Bert Esselink.

        A poorly executed mix of ideas! This book has a nice layout but lacks real substance. Many of the suggestions show the author's personal preference (about music, for example) rather than a more generic idea that readers can tweak to their own preference. I skimmed through the book since nothing really caught my attention or held my interest.

        The best parts about this book are the "Recommended Reading List" and the list of organizations at the end.

        Basically this book is a list of tips. Some are good others are not so good. You can tell she does have a lot of experience working at home though.

        For a part-time at home worker, I only learned a few things. I was hoping that it would focus more on staying motivated instead of how set up an office. For example, a large section focuses on the type of carpet you should buy for your room. She also talks a lot about how to decorate your office.

            What an amazing book !!!! At 40, I know nothing of financing. Religiously living paycheck to paycheck and raising young children, life gets to be overwhelming. This book has empowered me to look at my finances, my life in a whole new light. There is a way to help my children. I wish Suze Orman could be my financial planner. I have learned so much and yet I have so much more to learn thanks to her advice, insight and experience. This book is an incredible beginning for my journey. If only I had known earlier.

            But it did include some information that's nice to know. My investment strategy is a bit more aggressive and this audio-book leaned conservative. Then again, I wasn't familiar with Suze Orman before purchasing this book. So all in all, I'd say it's a decent read for most people, though I would have probably benefited more from her "Young and Broke."

            Book is giving a good overview on many different options for investing money. Writing is fluent and easily to understand also for newcomers in this field. There is no difficult language. Reading this will improve any discussion you might have with a so called financial advisor.

            Suze really knows how to explain finances in a easy way for anybody to understand. I liked it so much I told my boss about it who bought it and also I bought the book for my father who is close to retirement.
