Book Description
This book contributes to the never-ending search for higher firm rents. Firms can be defined as a set of resources and skills. Traditional theory on strategic management hardly examines the unique and invaluable character of management competence as the key resource of the firm. Management competence is two-fold. It expresses the ability to manage and to reallocate resources according to changing market requirements. The resource structure of a firm does not stop at the company level, but has to include suppliers and customers as external resources. This book uses state-of-the-art methodologies to deliver empirical evidence for the value of management competence in leading to both operational excellence and financial success. Thereby, it is able to provide deeper insights into the quest on firm performance differences.

Book Description
The term organizational advocacy offers a new way to look at the interaction between people and their organizations. What each of us thinks, says, does in the workplace, and the things we appreciate and the things that displease us-- according to organizational advocacy--really matter. Organizational advocacy puts responsibility and accountability for achievement where it should be, not with some distant manager but on us as individuals. Seiling's book is an easily understood tour of this challenging new concept and how it works from the ground up. Seldom has it been made so clear, as Seiling does here, that we and our organizations really are one. Seiling begins by introducing organizational advocacy and its foundation upon task performance and partnering relationships. Seiling agrees that readers will have questions and concerns, and that barriers to just understanding OA, let alone using it, do exist. She maintains that the activities contributing to or among high performance systems have been ignored in the past. Management simply assumed that the people they hired were automatically contributive and automatically capable of productive relationships. This serious misreading leads to misunderstood expectations of people, disconnection from the organization, and eventually to deteriorated productivity. Seiling summarizes all this in six subsets, making clear that personal responsibility, distributed accountability, and shared leadership are vital to an organization's health and performance. Using cases drawn from some of the nation's most respected companies and public organizations, Seiling makes an important contribution to the practice of human resource management, and to executive understanding of how to make organizations more productive.

Disorganized. No new ideas. Poorly written.
Would give it zero stars if possible.
No information about what's in this book.......2003-08-11
There are 17 reviews to date. The majority, 13 (or 76%) are from reviewers in North Carolina which happens to be where the author is based. All 13 NC reviewers gave the book perfect 5 star reviews. All 13 claim the techniques are great, but none go into details about the contents of the books - like specific sales techniques. It doesn't help that there's no "Look Inside" the book feature available, also no editorial reviews. You have no information about what's in this book. If you buy it, you're basically buying it on hype. That is, you're buying it just because everyone said it was great without knowing the specifics about why it was great. That's fine if that's how you buy books. I like to stick to substance so will pass on this one.
How to be proud of yourself while successfully selling!.......2003-03-28
There are many motivational books on the market - but most sales people don't get the fact that you have to care about how you go about to get the sale or what happens afterwood. I love this book because it shows how to do both and really win! This book is an honest go-getter, and I love the fact that it polishes out what I already know in my heart!

We attended one of Bob Janet's seminars here in Charlotte, NC, and I was lucky enough to be given this book because I read aloud some of Bob's quotations in the seminar! Then I had to turn over the book to my husband who preceded to read the book from cover to cover...and he loved it! We are very lucky to have Bob Janet here in Charlotte - and he also does seminars all over the country. He is an amazing man, and this book is amazing also! While my husband is not in sales, I now expect him to help me more in my own textile company since he has read this book! It is such a common-sense type of dynamic book; well worth reading for ANYONE interested in getting good results or being someone that also has true meaning within their efforts! GREAT values for just about any profession or position in business. Easy reading and has a GREAT bang for your buck!
Straight forward sales techniques........2003-03-25
A great read for every sales professional! This book gives straight forward sales techniques that can be used in the field to increase sales immediately. Every easy to read chapter is based on proven selling skills everyone needs to know.

Book Description
The first complete introduction to the technology and business issues surrounding m-commerce
With the number of mobile phone users fast approaching the one billion mark, it is clear that mobile e-commerce (a.k.a. "m-commerce") is the next business frontier. Authored by a recognized international authority in the field, this book describes the brave new world of m-commerce for technical and business managers alike. Readers learn about the driving forces behind m-commerce, the impact of WAP, 3G, mobile payment, and emerging location-sensitive and context-aware technologies. A comprehensive look at emerging m-commerce services and business models, as well as the changing role of mobile network operators, content providers, and other key players. The author concludes with informed predictions about the future of m-commerce.
Customer Reviews:
Thorough, insightful, and clear.......2003-11-14
This book serves as an excellent introduction to the field of m-commerce. It thoroughly covers the field in an insightful and clear manner. It has served me well as the foundation and starting point for web based retrievals of standard documents and white papers.
Excellent analysis.......2003-03-13
The book is a definitive source for someone who has little knowledge about the field of mobile commerce. The beauty of the text lies in the way the topics transition from a novice level to an advanced user level. The author has covered both the technological and the business aspects of mobile applications. One part that definitely needs to be mentioned here is the description of public and private keys for secure communication that was incredible. Nowhere had i read such a lucid description of the public-private key concept. The book is an easy read but extremely insightful. A must buy for those of you who want to keep up with the latest in technology.
A complete reference book for m-Commerce.......2002-11-17
I picked up M-Commerce as I was curious where the mobile computing market was going. From where I was standing, I see a lot of hype and was not particularly impressed with the early WAP based services. Although relatively brief, Dr. Sadeh have managed to provide a good overall description of the mobile computing market, past, present and future as well as presented simply and clearly the technologies involved, the problems that need to be overcome and the successful business models that have been employed. As a guide to mobile commerce and it's potential for profitable business growth, I would recommend it highly to executives and other interested parties who are either thinking of jumping on the bandwagon or figuring out how increase competitiveness by leveraging on it.
Good overview of M-Commerce technologies and service.......2002-10-22
Sadeh's "M-Commerce: Technologies, Services and Business Models" is an outstanding introduction to this, the next step in the e-business revolution.
Sadeh's writing style is very simple to understand and follow and he does an outstanding job of relating the material to everyday life through good, real-life examples. He cites current m-commerce usage in Japan and Europe and relates how it could be used here at home. Among his prime examples are NTTDoComo's I-mode, Nordea's WAP as well as vendors such as Ericsson, Nokia, and AT&T. You also get a good grounding in the technology and history of the mobile industry as well as best practice business tips that industry innovators have used to gain their competitive advantage. Overall, this is a great look at the technologies behind m-commerce and the various types of services it can afford.
Here is the listing of topics Sadeh addresses:
1. The Buzz Behind M-Commerce: Proliferation of mobile devices, personalized and location-sensitive services, new usage scenarios, etc
2. The M-Commerce Value Chain: Business models, content providers, aggregators, software vendors, equipment vendors, network operators
3. The Transition to 3G: 2G technologies, 2.5G technologies, wireless architecture
4. The Mobile Internet: TCP/IP on wired and mobile Internet, WAP architecture, WAP protocols
5. Mobile Security and Payment: Cryptography, digital signature, certificate authorities, public and private key encryption
6. M-Commerce Services: Information services, directory services, banking and trading, e-tailing, e-ticketing, entertainment, business applications
7. Next-Gen M-Commerce: Personalized services, location-sensitive services, global positioning services
Overall, this book is extremely easy to read and more importantly, a good learning tool. This book was used as the text for an m-commerce course I took during the fall of 2002. Whether you are studying this subject independently or whether you are an instructor looking to use this book for your course, you cannot go wrong with Sadeh's "M-Commerce: Technologies, Services and Business Models."
Highly Recommended
Structured, principle-based, & balanced between tech. & biz.......2002-09-15
I have been following recent mobile commerce developments from both business model and technical perspectives and found that this Carnegie Mellon professor's book provides an excellent introduction to m-commerce, including recent developments in Korea and Japan.
The main goodness of this book is that it is structured (not messy) and principle-based (not superficial).
In addition, the way of explanation of this book is reliable and balanced, so I expect the life of this book is longer than some other messy books on 'mobile' stuffs.
I believe this book is also perfect as a textbook on m-commerce or supplement on e-commerce.

Book Description
The economic relationship between the U.S. and China during the 1940s has long been neglected, with few scholarly works focusing on the period. This era was overshadowed by the political and diplomatic changes during and after the failure of the Nationalists in 1949. Without a close and insightful look into the reconstruction of China with American involvement during the late 1940s, one cannot identify the problems which led to the Nationalists' failure, nor can one answer the questions dealing with the impact of American economic policy toward China during that time.

The Process of Integrating Europe - An introduction to the theoretical and historical background........2007-06-18
This review is more of a greater explanation of the contents, rather than analysis of the material selected, because it's been a while since I read this and the book contents are unable to be searched on here.
The first section of the book gives the title of the book a misnomer, which is comprised of direct speeches given by the early (1930s - 1950s) thinkers and leaders (Spenelli and Rossi, De Gaulle, and others) and contemporary ones (Blair, DeLors, Fischer) in what is now known as the European Union. Additionally, the preambles of the Nice and Maastrich Treaties were included. The preambles and speeches provide a valuabl, first-hand source on the leaders' views of integration and how the EU wanted to integration to take place.
The second section provides an analysis of early integration theories (economic integration) and the effects of integration in the EU (the fate of the nation-state). There are 7 articles in this section.
The last section has more analytical approach to contemporary theories (functionalism, neofunctionalism) of integration and levels of governance within the EU.
For each reading, the editors provide a brief explanation of the and a small historical background of author and the reading, which is valuable for readers, especially those with a minimal background on the European Union.
Since this collection is focused on integration, I was a bit surprised there was not anything (to the best of my knowledge) regarding the Euro (the common currency) or migration policy. Overall, I rate this a 3.5 stars, rounded to four on Amazon.
Brent Nelsen is a Norse God!.......2003-02-15
Wow! This man knows how to write a book on EU law! No one captures the flair and significance of Europe like he does. The chapter on "The Tragedy of Europe" brought tears to my eyes. Why did they not listen?! Why did this have to happen! Nelsen knows and he tells you. I recommend this book to all, not just Norse love gods, but to all humanity!
interesting historical & political overview.......1999-04-13
I found this book a useful reference work for the original texts concerning the political study of EU integration history & theory.
Customer Reviews:
As a teacger who has adopted this book, its excellent!.......1998-07-14
I have used this book as the main reference for an honors senior seminar here at the American University of Paris and have found it to be an excellent text for analysis and documentation. Willem Molle, the author, knows the EU from within and as such he can explained it better than any other author that I have used in this connection
