Book Description
This unique book examines some of the most burning issues on the economic agenda today. Bringing together some of the foremost authorities in their fields, this volume challenges the existing mechanisms for the governance of the world economy.
The chapters in this book consider the current approaches of the World Bank and IMF, and offer alternative proposals for the effective participation of developing countries in these institutions. In doing so, the volume ranges from discussions on reforming the IMF and its conditionality, the operations of financial markets, debt workouts and restructuring, management of capital flows, debt sustainability and crisis prevention, to Millennium Development Goals and the global partnership development.
This volume is a compelling reminder of the long road to be travelled before the governance of the world economy becomes truly responsive to the aspirations and needs of the developing world.

Distilled knowledge of what works for consultants.......2005-02-15
"142 Insider Marketing Secrets" pretty much sums up what's inside this great book. Although small (175 pages) it provides very detailed and specific recommendations.
Not all of the 142 secrets are earth-shattering, but there's more than 100 valuable ideas. The four authors compliment each other nicely. If I were to advise them before publishing I would have wanted only to read Bernard Zick's recommendations because he's such a whiz on marketing in this area. But surprisingly, I found the other authors to add significantly to the focus of the book as they had to face how to market themselves in their specialties.
This is a book that you will want to review at least annually, perhaps as you plan the next years activities. There are many unusual techniques or ideas in this book that I had not seen elsewhere.

Power Marketing for Consultants Review.......2000-04-25
Power Marketing for Consultants:142Insider Marketing Secrets Used by the Nation's Top Consultants, by Marjorie Brody, Allen D'Angelo, Bill Kerley, and Bernard Zick unveil the power marketing secrets that justify why top consultants are making four times as such money as average consultants and have more time to enjoy their own lives. The authors of Power Marketing for Consultants: 142 Insider Marketing Secrets Used by the Nation's Top Consultants (Power Marketing for Consultants) are all highly successful consultants who enjoy what they do and are highly respected in the consulting arena. Brody, D'Angelo, et al. have taken thousands of working hours over the last twenty-five years and clearly stated their marketing and consulting philosophy in their book. The authors' research has shown that there is a large group of consultants on the lower end of the success curve and those who fall among the nation's most successful consultants. Successful consultants are storyteller, magicians, and highly successful in their area of expertise. The "magic" that successful consultants seem to perform is a result of well organized and highly tactical "power marketing." Power Marketing for Consultants is organized into three major marketing topic areas: Power Marketing Strategies, Power Marketing Tactics, and Power Marketing Maxims. Within the three topic areas each one of the authors highlighted their own marketing issues and practices. Just as the title implies there are 142 tips or suggestions in the book; they serve as their own chapters within the three major marketing themes. It is easy reading and is very direct, nothing is held back. When comparing Power Marketing for Consultants to Peter Block's book Flawless Consulting, Second Edition I believe Brody, D'Angelo, et al's work to be more organized and targeted towards a more professional audience. The target audience reached by Brody, D'Angelo, et. al. are young professionals or those who trying to gain further success and insight in their own consulting career. Robert B. Cialdini, author of Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion, noted that, "Power Marketing for Consultants provides a rich source of valuable experience and insights for enhancing the consulting process." The authors of Power Marketing for Consultants have many of the same goals as Cialdini, they are result driven and have determined the only real challenge in life is getting people to comply with you. Getting compliance can be done several different ways, however, Brody, D'Angelo, et. al made several marketing suggestions to help consultants establish and maintain both valuable and beneficial relationships. In the "Power Marketing Strategies-Strengthening Your Foundation," portion of the book there are several helpful suggestions made. For example, writing down your goals, make a marketing log, keeping money in the bank, and obtaining better clients are just a few of the helpful suggestions given. "Power Marketing Tactics: Powering It Up," section made reference to joining professional and community organizations, hiring a public relations professional, getting into cyberspace, networking with non-competitive consultants, serving as a Master of Ceremonies, and writing articles for professional journals. Lastly, Brody, D'Angelo, et. al focuses on "Power Marketing Maxims: For Enduring Success" here they reinforce how important it is to be reliable and responsible, having a good sense humor, and understanding the Law of Cause and Effect. Brody, D'Angelo, Kerey, and Zick have taken their insider knowledge to what has made them successful and laid it out on the table; their work in this book clearly mirrors their success in each of their various areas of expertise. The information available in Power Marketing for Consultants: 142 Insider Marketing Secrets Used by the Nation's Top Consultants, by Marjorie Brody, Allen D'Angelo, Bill Kerley, and Bernard Zick is practical, sustainable, and time tested. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in being respected among the nation's top consultants.

A very user-friendly guide to test your business ideas!.......2002-03-15
Starting and launching a new business or project venture is always risky, especially when experts are not around to guide and assist you readily.
Oftentimes, we turn to books and other resources that are readily available to help in our decision making process.
There are many entrepreneurship and business/project start-up books out there in the marketplace. Unfortunately, it is not easy to find a good one that can really help you. Very few authors of such books make the effort and spend the time to help you reflect on your idea(s) and test it/them before putting into action.
I am very glad to have found, among other few good books, David Bang's 'Smart Steps to Smart Choices,' to be a well-written guide. Also, very user-friendly!
Most entrepreneurship and business/project startup books concentrate too much time on the 'implementation-execution' end, and not at the 'thinking-planning' end i.e. the evaluation & testing phase, which comprises the critical decision making process, and which to me is far more important.
This book contains a well-structured series of 'personal workshops' (to me, these are an excellent form of planning checklists, with thought-provoking questions & hands-on activities) which have been designed specifically to help you develop practial insights about your business/project idea & also help you face and work out your answers to critical issues that may make or break your business/project success. Systematically, with this book, you can determine:
- whether entreprenership is right for you in the first place;
- whether your idea makes business sense;
- whether your idea makes market sense;
- whether your idea makes money sense;
This is one book that you have to work through it to appreciate its latent power and usable value. With this book, you will also find learning about entreprenership fun, interesting and meaningful.
As a matter of fact, I use a small pilot project of mine to test run it. Upon completion, I found that I have a better sense of my project direction, in terms of business, market and financial implications. Not many books can achieve such feats for the reader.
What I also like about this book is that it is graphically driven. It is packed with many margin icons to help you stay on track while you read and work through your answers. I love books written in this manner. They really make your life easier as a reader.
Although the author has written many other books on business and market planning, I find only this one book from him that has impressed me very much, in terms of learning points and application value in the field of opportunity recognition and evaluation.
Lastly, this book can also serve as an excellent reading companion to Jeffry Timmons' and Karl Vesper's books on entrepreneurship & new venture strategies!

Complete waste of money.......2007-03-04
If you follow this book then forget about your chances of getting anywhere. Consulting will be out of business with this level of analysis. The cases are really shallow and anything but logical. Don't waste monney on this, I have ordered "Case In Point", hope that turns out to be better.

Customer Reviews:
Take it from me, this is the best book.......2006-02-22
All the dueling reviews below would have you wonder about the quality of both "Divorce and Money" books, so as an experiment I got both. It's pretty clear that this book (Nolo's) is the better one, hands down. The difference was evident in just minutes. Everything's presented in easy to read verbiage, the charts are easy to use, and the forms and checklists were really handy. Helped me and my ex make the split easier than I expected, frankly. Thank you for this book!!
My new favorite book!.......2004-07-13
Okay I might be exagerating but I did love this book. A friend recommended it after my husband and I decide to "part ways." I accidently picked up the other book with the same title and was not so thrilled with all the Get A Attorney advice, but then I realized my mistake and got this version -- it's SO helpful. It almost took me by the hand and showed me how to be less emotional than I would be when making decisions affecting how to split our property and bills up, and how to figure out child support.
My eyes glazed over.........FELT LIKE I WAS IN LATIN CLASS!!.......2004-03-03
Read both books and all the reviews of 2 books with basically the same name and if you want more information in a MUCH MORE user friendly, readable (in English) format at 1/2 the price buy the other book by Smith, Divorce and Money Everything you need to know. I read a review that the Smith book just wants you to hire expensive lawyers. NOTHING could be further from the truth. No matter what, you need a lawyer and this book tells you the same thing. It doesn't mean you have to be stupid! As a normal, middle class guy with a college education and MY OWN BUSINESS this book makes you feel like you are in Latin Class again. Do your self a favor and not only buy Smith's book on Money get her book on Children.......you will save lots of time and stress.
For my money, a better bet is............2004-03-03
....a newer book, "Divorce and Money: Eveything you need to Know," by attorney Gayle Rosenwald Smith. The newer book even has its own website, www.divorceandmoneybook.com, which allowed me to peruse the contents, view a video clip of the author on CBS, and check her calendar to see if she would be appearing at a book store near me. Well she was, and I got to talk to her in person, which was great! She's so knowledgeable and empathetic; her very human tone comes through in every page of her book. Gayle's book lists at $14.95 (but I got it for less!) vs. $24.50 for the other book. At a time like this, I need to hang onto every penny I've got. I'm really glad I bought Gayle's book, the information was up-to-date, thorough and invaluable. Why pay almost $10 more for an older book?
The best book available.......2004-01-30
Recently saw another book with this same title at the bookstore, so I picked up both. Of the two, the Nolo book was so much more helpful -- it assumes you want to handle most of the details yourself, and avoid lawyers, whereas the other kept talking about how to choose a lawyer (an expensive, time-wasting lawyer).

Book Description
Tucked away in one of Europe's most far-flung corners, the Finnish Nokia Corporation has emerged in the past decade from near-obscurity to become a global powerhouse in mobile communications and a leader in the development of third-generation wireless services.
How did they do it? How did the 140-year-old company manage to survive the political upheavals of its age? What re-creations did the company undergo as it moved from forest-industry enterprise to European technology conglomerate to global cellular phone maker--and now, to its latest incarnation, as a mobile Internet vendor?
The Nokia Revolution probes behind the company's official, often enigmatic veneer to uncover how Nokia operates, how its chief executives think, and how it listens to the pulse of the market. As such, it is the first strategic study of this extraordinary company, focusing on the way Nokia has built its existing capabilities into competitive advantages.
The book probes far beyond the breezy articles and lightweight press release recyclings. It concentrates instead on the company's extraordinary historical evolution, the creation of its global focus strategy, and the innovations that are preparing Nokia for a mobile information society.
The Nokia Revolution transcends the immediacy of a single company or industry profile. It offers keen insights into what it's like to compete in a fast-cycle, cutthroat, volatile environment. And it offers compelling lessons for both established industry leaders who need to sustain and renew their marketplace dominance and upstarts seeking to topple the giants.
Customer Reviews:
A staggeringly in-depth study of a fascinating company.......2006-03-04
There is no doubt that Nokia has grown from a small Finnish firm into the worldwide leader in cellular and mobile communication technology. How did the firm accomplish this revolution? In this book, Dan, Steinbock, answers this question by tracing the history of Nokia. Looking at the steps Nokia took, including the missteps, the author accurately traces both huge successes, and mistakes. More importantly the author shows how Nokia learned from its mistakes and came back from each misstep stronger. The author hits on some key factors that make Nokia such a strong firm:
· Strategic Intent. In an ever changing market, learn how Nokia took some early missteps. These missteps made Nokia stronger because in 1992 these missteps forced Nokia to move toward process-based management. It used this style to successfully transfer a strategic intent that would motivate every employee.
· Global Focus. Nokia's leadership recognized that in this new environment, the ability to segment markets and target niche segments within those markets was critical to success. In order to compete, Nokia would need to focus globally.
· Strategic Market-Making. With the dynamic market of cellular technology, Nokia's executive board managed to discover and implement a strategy that delivered success.
· Focus on People. Nokia treated its Human Resource management as a strategic issue. Nokia focused on utilizing a drive to achieve customer satisfaction, a respect for the individual, a willingness to achieve and belief in continuous learning, and by encouraging sharing of information and responsibility.
· Global R&D. Nokia spends less than its rivals on R&D. What there efforts lack in funding, they make up for with an efficient system to leverage and exploit new knowledge. Nokia has been active in both upstream (Nokia) and downstream (people-service related factors) innovation.
NOKIA -- More Cameras than KODAK in the World...........2005-03-10
Read this book because Nokia is not just a cell phone producer but also a leader in R&D and interface design and yes, they now sell more cameras than Kodak in the world. I should know because I write about this field for imediaconnection.com and this is a book that is definitely on my shelf. Hard to understand how this company not only influenced a country --but also a generation and a world of new media and technology. TV2Go--, games, 3G and more -- it's all on the horizon-- the surf is about to roar in-- make sure you're prepared for the next generation of devices, handhelds and mobile. read this book.
Heavy book and heavy reading.......2005-01-14
The book is very well written and gives a nice detailed background of Nokia. The book is however very hard to read since you have to look acronyms up and all the time divert your attention from the text too look at the many graphs. It is not a smooth read but the content of the book is very good and well documented.

The revolution of Nokia's ideas.......2003-12-15
This is an inspiring story in an inspiring book. Steinbock told us how Nokia prepared their revolution, how Nokia finally dominates the world of cellular market. To some extend, Nokia was brought Finland into the world economic map. If you want to know the secret of Nokia success, maybe this book could be one of the great sources to do so.
a good lesson for businessmen.......2002-10-21
Nokia Revolution has such a detailed history of this famous cell phone company from its very beginning of a wood pulp factory to the leading mobile and internet company now, that it taught me a lot more about how a business really works than how a successful company looks. Nokia, according to my poor knowledge before, is merely a famous company whose cell phones are said to be the most durable product that won't be broken even if you drop it a thousand times to the ground. This book makes me think much deeper into the struggle the company went through to get this kind of fabulous quality and services to satisfy customers' needs.
