A solidly practical, user-friendly guide.......2007-07-10
Written by successful investor, real estate expert, and magazine columnist David Schumacher, Ph.D., Buy and Hold: 7 Steps to a Real Estate Fortune is a non-nonsense guide to real-estate investment, step-by-step. Buy and Hold is the antithesis to "flipping" guides; instead of buying property with the goal of reselling it, Buy and Hold is about buying property and using it to generate long-term profit. Chapters cover how to use the Internet to help one purchase real estate, how to analyze the growth potential of property, timing one's investment to gain a boost from the economy, the advantages of using a real estate broker, real estate axioms, and much more. "Avoid the loss of income by performing a periodic rental analysis. Keep up with what is happening in the market and adjust the rents accordingly." A solidly practical, user-friendly guide especially for serious-minded real estate investors in it for the long haul.
where to start..........2007-03-20
The authors advice is extremely outdated for one. Prices, financing and sophistication levels of sellers have reached light speed since the author started investing. He is not a very good author to boot. Disorganized and scattershot would classify his writing style. If you like listening to Grandpa talk about the 'good ol days' then maybe this book is for you.
Definitive.......2007-01-06
Schumacher is the Warren Buffet of real estate investing!
Whether you are dreaming of getting started or already owning multiple properties, his homespun, low-key, common sense based approach is right-on. Not only is he a real estate pro in an academic sense, he has put it all into action himself.
His Get-Rich-Slow approach is refreshingly absent of hype....it all seems so easy! It is! You just have to do it - and that's the problem - YOU now have to take action, and have a patient approach, and it will happen.
I've bought this book for a couple of friends who are still on the starting blocks, but in my life buying hundreds of business books, I've never come across such a good resource.
How to evaluate the potencial grows of a property.......2006-03-23
This book tells you should buy properties that really have potencial for earning value in the future. The author is an authority in valuing properties, and he is a self made millionary buying properties for rental. He speaks through his experience and knowledge. This precisely is the value of this book. Excelente book that give you guidelines to evaluate if you should buy a property in terms of its potencial. I recomend for anyone interested in investing in real state.
region specific and not very insightful.......2005-07-15
I like the concept, and his maxims in the opening pages are very good. The author does a bad job at delivery though, often talking about examples in buying beachfront California party. While he made great investments at a great time 50 years ago, I don't have $2M+ to go buy a condo on the beach in California. He sort of uses best case scenario examples that aren't applicable to most investors' markets. This is one of those books the has several good ideas padded with pages and pages of fluff. Would make a great 10-15 page special report, but as far as a book is concerned, nothing great.
Book Description
Giving advice is an essential task in all professions. Doctors, lawyers, management consultants, financial planners, consulting engineers, and accountants are called on every day to give wise advise to their clients on what they should do. Some professionals carry out this task well; others do it poorly. The ability of a doctor, lawyer, management consultant, or financial planner to help another person with a problem depends as much on a command of the process of giving advice as on an understanding of medicine, law, business, or finance. Salacuse presents a clear and workable method for understanding and carrying out the advising process. His system is based on basic principles that govern all advising, regardless of the profession or area of life in which the advisor works: Know the persons who will use the advice; help, or at least do no harm; recognize how advice matters and can have serious consequences; negotiate your role with the client; develop a partnership between advisor and client; tailor advice to the life, needs, and objectives of the client, and make that advice clear and constructive; keep advice pure of self-interest, prejudices, and personal shortcomings; and know when to stop. Drawing on examples and cases from virtually every profession, Salacuse shows how to apply these seven principles in a wide variety of advising situations. The Wise Advisor is an indispensable tool for any person who gives professional advice.

I Advise You To Buy It!.......2001-01-19
A remarkable book. It has made me a better advisor and I have bought copies for several people we engage as consultants. I wish they could have read it years ago. It is packed with wise advice on how to give better advice and to make your advice more likely to be accepted.

"Never before have I been drawn into a story of such relevance like the one found in `The Lost Principles of Entrepreneurship'. The character spoke directly to my business, my heart and my soul. They re-energized me to focus even more of my effort into making my business a success."
"It is refreshing to read a book like `The Lost Principles of Entrepreneurship'. I have found that parables and story telling are the best ways to communicate truths that could otherwise be easily lost with a direct approach. This book has help solidify ides that were already apart of my thinking, but having them presented right in front of me cleared up a some what fuzzy picture."
"If this was a sermon, I would be standing to my feet saying, `AMEN!'."

The Lost Art of Entrepreneurship.......2004-02-24
I enjoyed reading Dr. Gravely's book and believe that while Black America is in the midst of a wave of entrepreneurship that is focused on building wealth, leaving a legacy, providing job opportunities, and rebuilding this nations forgotten urban core, this book is a must read for anyone embarking on the path of entreprenuership. We all know that in accepting the inherent risk associated with entreprenuership, there are many obstacles along this path that often de-rails the would be entreprenuer. Dr. Gravely's book provides a keen perspective on the proper entreprenuerial mindset necessary to deal with these obstacles regardless of what they are. For entrepreneurs and prospective entreprenuers, the story encompassed in the book will provide you with a focus on how to effectively deal with the obstacles that you will undoubtedly encounter. I also recommend this book to all college students engaged in a business curriculum and those who have any entreprenuerial aspirations.
A new focus on entrepreneurship........2003-11-22
I have been giving a lot of thought to starting my own business, but the focus was always on, "How much money will it make?" Gravely gave me the right focus and the right attitude.

Worthless mumbo jumbo.......2007-05-14
Don't expect to find any real useful information in this volume. It is only a philosophical piece that describes how you should think about money. It can be summarized as followed: there is an abundance of money on the planet, admit that you want and love money, be true to your goals, and be generous with others. If you do so, all the money you will ever need need will come your way. He suggests that you put a lit candle in a window for a week along with a letter saying that you want money for all the good you've done in this world, and ......voila ! A truckload of money will soon be dumped in your lap. (This is how the author puports to have obtained $15,000. WOW.) He does realistically admit that it might take a little longer than one week....so get several candles he says. Skip this book and pick up a good investment guide.
The difference between the tramp and the millionaire.......2007-05-13
The Little Money Bible is all that and more. There is nothing little about this book at all. It should be the big money bible all you need to know at your fingertips. Stuart Wilde brings us to an understanding of what money is in our lives. He points out throughout the book that it is all energy. He also speaks to us that money is all about feeling. In these eternal truths he also causes us to pay attention to the game of life. He points us in the direction of the inner game which is a great metaphysical truth that is understood throughout the ages.
I love when Wilde points out by saying, "The difference between the tramp and the millionaire is an almost imperceptible shift in consciousness and vitality." With this thought in mind we can understand that all things move by reason of the mind. This book will teach you about the laws of abundance and the learned art of manifestation. When you discover the principles in this book it will wow your mind and cause you to start to think of money in a correct mindset. The little money bible should be kept by your bed or in your purse. You should not only read it but peruse it so that every thought can be digested to the level you can handle in mind. The point he makes in the book is that you must align money with right thinking. You will never attract money if you think it is evil. That is why everyday I say "I love money and money loves me." This statement started to free me from religious bondage that would have me to kick the good money from me. I recommend this book to those that are a thinking mind. And remember what the mind can conceive it will achieve if it is held long enough in thought. Bless you all.
Abridged Version of The Trick to Money is Having Some..........2007-04-15
I'm a HUGE FAN of Stuart Wilde. I bought and read his other book, The Trick to Money is Having Some.
This book is an abridged and updated version of his other book. Still, even with the same info as the other book, it has additional info that doesn't seem to be in the other book.
I keep both books very close to me. I take this book on trips with me so I have immediate access to his info in a short but sweet format that this book provides.
Both of his "money" books, as I call them (this book and The Trick to Money is Having Some, highly recommended) have changed my life. His methods and techniques are immediately usable and practical.
If you're tired of the typical metaphysical "attraction" books out there, THIS is the book for you. Most other books tell you to change your thinking and, I guess as the theory goes, a suitcase full of money is supposed to show up at your door.
Stuart Wilde realizes was a bunch of malarky that concept is and tells you HOW to work with the RULES OF THE WORLD in order to have boatloads of money show up at your door. However, you have to DO SOMETHING to get the money...Not just "think positive" and have checks arrive to you from the clouds. That's not how life works.
His work is superb. You'll be missing out if you pass on this book. You MUST get this book if you want to fully understand how to make "life" work for you so you can make as much money as possible.
A MUST HAVE.......2007-01-09
I borrowed the book from a friend and decided to buy the CD since i drive a lot... this material is wonderful. it really helps you to loosen up your ideas about money and get things flowing. it has helped me tremendously.
Top of the List Need To Read.......2006-05-25
If you are serious about creating wealth and understanding the mechanics of wealth, this easy to read book is mandatory reading. I can say without hesitation that this is one of the top 5 books I've ever read.

Customer Reviews:
Burrough's does it again !.......2002-05-31
Burrough's fabulous research is rarely matched, the marvelous style is consistent with his previous work on 'Barbarians at The Gate'. Few business authors will thrill you as much as Burroughs or James B. Stewart.
The story of how the custodian (Jim Robinson) of one the worlds most recognized names, American Express launched a defamation campaign against a Swiss banker (Edmond Safra). Their efforts would've succeeded if they didn't rely upon an eccentric master of PR (Harry Freeman), a neurotic conspiracy theorist (Susan Cantor) and what could only be described as weasel of a man (Tony Greco)to execute it all.
The portrayal of Safra as an innocent is a bit misleading. Admittedly he took advantage of his post holocaust Jewish peers by purchasing their gold for obscenely below market prices to resell at market prices. In addition, Safra isn't without blame in American Express's paranoia that he would exercise unscrupolous tactics himself.
Read the book to find out why.
Boys Will Be Boys.......2002-04-16
What happens when business people start to act like 5 year olds at the playground - I'm taking my ball and going home. This is a great story about the desire of American Express to move into the world of private banking and the bank they tried to by - Republic Bank run by Mr. Saffra. Not only does the book provide us this weird story but also it gives the reader a great back ground on these two companies - the American Express information was very interesting. The story of the two companies coming together and then having a lovers spat is just darn interesting and a little tabloid TV. The book keeps your interest and is a nice little find if you pick it up.
Banking Gets Personal.......2000-05-07
I am a fan of the authors writing in general. If you're a person who enjoys reading stories in the Wall Street Journal etc then this book may very well be for you (the author works at WSJ).
This is a fascinating story of international intrigue and business. The author provides historical background for both AmEx and Mr Saffra and then proceeds into the meat of the story.
What's interesting here is that the Vendetta alluded to in the title raises some serious ethical questions on the part of some folks. All I'll say is as you read it do a name search on the web and see where some of them are today, it's not the poor house and it's not jail either.
The book exposes high finance, high power, bare knuckled business street fighting taken to an internation stage.
