Book Description
Feng shui is an ancient Chinese art that seeks to create balance and harmony in the environment as a way to improve every aspect of life, including finances, relationships, and health. The practice, which can be applied to everything from a home to a handbag, has gained celebrity in the West in the past several years. In this book an expert explains the basic principles that help readers apply feng shui simply and experience the benefits almost immediately.
After learning the basic concepts, the reader will find creative solutions to developing a career (an aquarium with goldfish in a home office encourages financial success); improving relationships (crystal mobiles can bring more sparkle and passion); and strengthening family (positioning your bed in the right way encourages fidelity). Most important, the first aim of feng shui is not to have any clutter and thus to create a smooth, steady flow of energy. There are numerous tips for how to tackle even the most out-of-control closet.

Interesting, Fun and Easy to Use.......2005-01-08
This is the kind of book that is very fun to browse through. Every time I pick it up, I end up getting engrossed in something new. There is a lot of easy to understand information in this book. I took it to work and coworkers were fighting for a chance to look through it!
Informative and colorful.......2002-11-28
This is a simple and wise guide to FS cures. This book will teach you about the bagua map, the cures, the 5 elements, the symbols and your best directions.
It is a practical and easy to follow book even if you are not familiar with FS. It is a very well designed book, with great illustrations and colors. Enjoy it!

Customer Reviews:
Wonderful book!.......2007-06-21
This easy to understand book is a treasure! Having been rather intimidated over the years by Feng Shui, I was thrilled to find a book that explained in enough detail, but not too much and made practical suggestions, easy to implement. I saw this book at a used bookstore and purchased it to read on a trip. What luck! It is so well-written and makes simple suggestions to improve your home, life, or garden. I will not part with the book, but will definitely recommend the title to others. Loved it.
A classic!.......2000-02-08
Nanci Lee Wydra's sociology/urban planning background lend a definite "feet planted on terra firma" approach to what is often presented as a rather out-of-reach, "woo-woo" topic. A regular speaker at American Institute of Architects (AIA) conventions, Wydra lends an intriguing contemporary, approachable, American (yet firmly grounded in Chinese tradition) sensibility to this fascinating ancient Chinese art. Also well worth reading are her follow-up books, Feng Shui in the Garden and Feng Shui in the Office.
This book does not cover most important aspects.......1999-12-03
and I was disappointed after reading this. I wish it would have discussed more common problems that US residents face in their homes and apartments. Could have been written with more diagrams and illustrations.
Splendid, simple to use, logical Feng Shui guide that works!.......1998-12-12
As an American who spends lots of time in Asia, I was thrilled to find a book like this to recommend to my friends. Nancilee Wydra obviously studied Feng Shui's many aspects. She wrote a guide that is easy to use and logical in its approach to this age-old oriental discipline. The author obviously cares about the importance of both our home and business environments. By following her teachings, I really feel that my surroundings have indeed made my life more successful, serene and comfortable.
Easy to follow advice for novices in feng shui........1998-10-22
Simple and cost-effective solutions for poor feng shui in homes and offices. Easy to follow, the book is good for those with little knowledge of feng shui. The reader can grasp an immediate (elementary) understanding of feng shui, allowing the reader to begin using this wonderful philosophy right away to help make positive changes in his/her personal environment.

Customer Reviews:
A must first read if you're planning to venture into this exciting business.......2006-07-13
This book is an excellent resource. Marc Kramer does an excellent job from beginning to end. He explains the consulting business and the opportunities that exist. This book is a must read for anyone thinking about starting a consulting business and great tool for existing consultants to grow their current business.
Mr. Kramer "Cuts to the Chase" with a Venom.......2003-09-26
When I first saw this book on the bookshelf I was skeptical. "The Business that Generates Mega Dollars..." is the kind of phrase that lets you know you are in for a real story. However upon flipping through to see the chapter titles I felt a little differently about it. After bringing the book home and reading it, I found that every page had advice that even the smallest consulting startup could use, no matter what the field of expertise may be.
I have just started this year in the spring a very small consulting business that will most likely never return "mega dollars" but it fills a market niche that is not yet tapped and I dearly enjoy what I do for my clients. So when I found information that readily applied even to my situation in every chapter it was very compelling indeed.
Mr. Kramer does an excellent job of expressing examples, philosophy and the real world. Most "You can do it too" books are chock-full of "pump-me-up" suggestions and ideology that is either not entirely realistic for the average Joe Consultant to put into effect, or is something that is just way too far out there for a real life person to get a grip on. Not so in this book. The examples are real life examples and they hit home right on the bullseye.
Mr. Kramer uses his own successes, and especially interesting to see is his failures written there right before our very eyes. He is not afraid to cut straight to the core when talking about clients or associates who failed to listen to his advice, then failed in business. I am sure that those clients whom he referred to as "difficult clients or bad debts" regarding, hiring, firing, etc. know exactly who they are. He hides nothing but the identity of the client. I wonder if they picked up a copy of Mr. Kramer's book?
I highly recommend this book to those of you who want to know what it is like for a real (successful) consultant who is not just pumping himself up for the sake of giving himself a good name. Mr. Kramer provides us with all the information in detail (not just philosophy) that is easily implemented so that we can get going with designing our business plans, marketing plans, sales (ad)ventures, and so forth ASAP. This is a rare find for a business book; something that you can ACTUALLY SINKYOUR TEETH INTO AND USE in the real world. I am very glad I bought this book.
I give this book 4.5 stars out of 5 because unfortunately nothing in the real world can ever be 100% (except maybe Mom's cooking), although it can come very close. I like it so much in fact that I have ordered a second copy and plan to send it to another associate in the US who is starting up a consulting firm for providing Expat Services. He should find Mr. Kramer's book even more rewarding than I did, and be able to apply even more of the theory and reality in this book.
Thank you, Mr. Kramer for a book well authored.
This Book Will Make You a Lot of Money.......2003-07-16
You could easily make a fortune just by reading this book, just as the sub-title implies. I loved this book and found it to be awesome, a real gold mine for anyone in the consulting business. You will be reminded of classics in the genre such as Peter Block's Flawless Consulting, but Kramer has truly added to the literature of success by giving so many tools and techniques and recipes for consulting that you would have to be really hard-headed not to make a go of it after reading this. There are even entire recipes and complete formats for doing a competitive analysis on a web site! That template alone is worth a lot of money. The author interviewed me for the book after reading mine, How to Mind Read Your Customers (Amacom, 2001) and I was blown away by the amount of useful information he had packed into it when I read my gift copy. I learned more in the first two hours of reading it than I have learned from any other book in recent memory. My advice is this-if you want to quadruple your income as a consultant, buy this book and memorize it. It's that simple.
A must.......2003-05-13
If you are thinking about going it on your own, this is the book for you. I was struck by the depth of practical, hands on advice. Mr. Kramer brings tremendous insight in the process of helping you identify if consulting is right for you, and, if it is, how to do it right.
This will be my blueprint!

Terrific Guide!.......2005-01-21
I sooooo wish that I'd read this book before launching my freelance writing career four years ago! There are so many issues that a person going into business needs to know -- including whether to organize their business on a cash basis or accrual basis, and what the IRS expects in terms of taxes, filings, and documentation. Jennifer's book thoroughly discusses each of these -- and so much more. I highly recommend that readers study Chapter 12: "Setting Fees and Making the Most from Every Sale." Such great info!
"Business" and "creative" in the same title?.......2001-05-07
This is an excellent guide for freelancers. It demystifies the process of starting and running a business. If you've ever wondered whether or not you need a business license or "incorporation" status, or if you're wondering how to handle your taxes, insurance, loans, partnerships with other freelancers, contract terms, etc... you'll find answers to all of your questions here, in plain English, from someone who's "been there and done that." I highly recommend this book. --Jenna Glatzer, Editor-in-Chief, AbsoluteWrite.com and WriterOnline.net

Something for everyone in this book .......2007-10-05
This book would be perfect required reading for anyone who intends to work in a business after they leave school. For those of us much longer in the tooth than the author, we forget just how much newbies do not know about the business world. Her insights are honest, refreshing, often humorous and absolutely bang on. I can just imagine how fantastic an employee she became through this introspection. If you read it so it helps you guide new employees, or for your own growth, there is something for everyone in it. Organized, easy to read and quick.
Great book for looking at from the other angle............2007-09-06
Managers searching to work with GenY employees would greatly benefit from reading this book. Why? Because it helps them bridge the gap and understand how Gen Y thinks. GenY wants two things: They want to be productive, and they want to succeed. Some traditionalist and baby boomers have a hard time understanding why Gen Y needs tools like a Blackberry to be productive. GenY wants these tools because they grew up with them. This is the generation that grew up IM'ing, texting, e-mailing, etc. They are most productive with these types of tools, and will blow your minds with their accomplishments if you provide them with what they need. Gen Y wants to feel useful and productive - you need to challenge them and their abilities and give them room to prove themselves.
Great seller and credible .......2007-05-14
I am very pleased with the purchase from this seller. Very smooth transaction.
They Do Teach Corporate in College.......2007-04-11
I am a College Professor and I have been using "They Don't Teach Corporate in College" as a supplement to my "Supervisory Mangement" Class. Alexandra Levit is right on the mark with this book. The students have really enjoyed reading this book and have learned so much from it. I have incorporated this book into my class discussions and the students will be more prepared for the corporate world because of it!
not a bad book to read before graduation .......2007-01-24
The book is written well, easy to read and in parts provides a good summary of the strategies that one has to employ to get a spot under the Sun.

Customer Reviews:
Nice Job - Wholistic Approach.......2007-05-28
I just skimmed "Live Long and Prosper," by Steve Vernon. I can now read an entire retirement book in about an hour. There is a lot of wisdom in the book. It's probably the best "all in one" retirement book I have read. This is because Steve does an adequate job on both the financial and the "touchy feely" sides of retirement. His aproach is a wholistic one which tries to address both aspects of retirement in an integrated fashion. A few comments:
- His answer to the SWR is somewhere between 3% and 4% (surpirse surprise)
- He advocates a mix of passively managed indexed and actively managed funds. As a believer in EMT of course I disagree.
- He advocates hiring a professional financial advisor. I think people can do it themselves and save a bundle.
- He doesn't use what I would call early retirement examples. His usually start at age 50, late by my standards (I retired at age 44).
4 out of 5 stars if you are out there Steve. Nice Job.
terrific retirement planning guide.......2007-01-31
This is an easy to read, informative, straight forward, extremely helpful retirement guide. It makes inverstments understandable. I highly recommend it, as do all the friends & family that I gave it to.
Found it very useful and easy to read.......2006-01-18
I am a Life Coach who helps retirees live their dreams in retirement, whatever retirement looks like to them. Steve Vernon's book is in my permanent collection. It is easy to read and well laid out. The first part of the book covers what I call the soft side of retirement; what will your retirement life look like and how can you make it the best years of your life. The middle part is about saving and investing and how to determine how much you will need. The end ties all this together. It has lots of information based on facts and research that I found very helpful. While I'm not sure I've found the perfect retirement book yet, his is worth reading.
awful.......2005-04-17
There are a lot of better books, by better experts, for less money on the market.
Inspiring Ideas.......2005-01-20
The first thing I did after putting down Steve Vernon's book was to sock more money away in my 401(K). I've also decided that if my employer doesn't go for the "phased retirement" plan that Vernon puts forth in this very readable map to the "rest of life," then I'll just use some of my vacation time to construct my own four-day work week, at least in the summer, and start my own "rest of life" right now! So you could say that "Live Long and Prosper" has changed my outlook on life. What more could you ask from a retirement manual?
Customer Reviews:
There must be a pony around here.......2003-03-21
Visitors to Amazon who read customer reviews may have noted that low ratings turn off readers--'helpful' ratings go down with the number of stars. A pity, since intelligent readers realize that ratings derive from reader experience and knowledge.
So: this could have been a fascinating, important book about a subject that affects millions of airline passengers. But Sabbagh snatches defeat from the jaws of potential victory solely because of his writing style--or, rather, the lack. This must be among the most hackneyed, cliche-ridden pieces of sloppy journalism ever foisted on a major publisher. One wonders whether an editor ever even looked at it.
The very first line of the book, in the Acknowledgments, is a cliche: "It goes without saying that . . ." Arrgghhh! The very first sentence of the Introduction is equally clumsy: "There are two things I know about airplanes that surprised me when I first learned them." How about: "Two things about airplanes surprised me." Beyond the clumsy construction he uses, the author should discover several thousand things that surprised him. I've been a pilot since age 17 and learn something new every time I fly. His entire introductory premise is fallacious and trivial.
The over-all impression of the book is that the author is not a pilot and doesn't really care much about flight; that he knows not nearly enough about the design, manufacturing, materials and basic aerodynamics technologies he tries to convey to the reader; and that his failure to master the language and rid himself of the leaden, cliched prose is a burden the reader is forced to share if he or she keeps slogging on.
There must be a pony around here. There must be a wonderful book about a great and epochal airplane hiding inside this mess. The reader shouldn't have to start with a shovel to find that book.
The only stars I give (two) are for information I was forced to dig out, with reluctance and frequent outbursts of impatience.
A Project Management.......2002-04-19
This title is less about aviation and flying than it is about project management and visionary business and management practices. The challenge of designing, building, and marketing a multimillion dollar aircraft it daunting, but the insight into the personalities and practices behind the challenge are insightful, illuminating how a good end-to-end project is run.
Those looking for hardcore aviation insights might be disappointed, as another reviewer was. But those who really want to understand the complex realities of running a business and a huge team will find insipration.
A Soporific Nightmare.......2000-07-23
I am a great fan of commercial aviation, and read many books on the subject. But this book is a soporific nightmare. The style of the author is trite, hackneyed, and the tone is overly melodramatic.
Excellent Story, Funny and Fascinating.......2000-07-03
21St-Century Jet : The Making and Marketing of the Boeing 777 is an excellent book. Though it does not go into exqusite detail about the systems of the 777, it provides an entertaining look into not only the design and construction, but the men and woman behind the aircraft. There is more to this plane than just it's systems, and that rarely told story is what makes this unique book one that will be enjoyed by engineers, plane enthusiasts, and anyone who has ever flown on an airplane. The story behind the 777 is amazing, the complexity of the plane is daunting, and putting this all into writing, the author makes a story that rivals any novel.
Talk about betting the company..........2000-06-10
