1 out of 5 stars Bond's Franchise Guide.......2001-01-19

I thought I was getting a book on franchises that was a ratings of franchises. This might as well have been condensed into a 5 page booklet on franchise cost. It did however, contain some good contact numbers for someone who has no idea of where to start their franchise search.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best books if you're looking to buy a franchise........1999-11-08

Bonds is by far one of the best franchise books on the market. As a consultant to many franchisors, I have constantly referred back to Bonds. The contact information is very accurate. It is very easy to follow. I used mine so many times, I had to order a new one. Wow, they all look good. Wow, I see problems in each. Wow, I don't know what I am doing here, I am a fish out of water in the franchising world. I found this book to be a good tool to have once you have found the businesses you want to investigate. The challenge is narrowing the list.

I didn't want to stand behind a counter making sandwiches(spent too long in corporate America for that), but beyond that I didn't know what else to narrow the list on. I found some help and between this book, others books and the advisor I found I was able to evalaute the market. Some investigation, and Google, led me to George Knauf and together we talked about companies, my goals and what is in the book.

Use all the tools available to you. I found the book to be a somewhat worthwhile investment and the advice to be worth a great deal, though somehow it din't cost me anything.

Independent Consulting: The Definitive Guide is neither a manual on consulting exclusively nor a textbook on consulting exclusively. Instead, it is a combination of both. If you are interested in consulting as an accountant, the book does not provide you with the necessary accounting skills. It assumes that you are already appropriately qualified as an accountant. However, it does provide the consulting skills that will help to make you a successful independent consultant in accounting.

Dr. James does a good job of writing a generic "How to be an Independent Consultant" book. The book assumes you already have the required skills to be a consultant. I found the outline to be structured and the content to be concise with very good examples and illustrations. Very helpful.

As a recent college graduate with little experience writing cover letters, I found this book to be extremely helpful! It offers a logical, step-by-step guide to preparing cover letters. Most importantly, it forces the reader to really think about what they are writing and who they are writing to rather than just a one size fits all, fill in the blanks kind of approach that many of these books take. The sample letters are excellent as well.

                  5 out of 5 stars Inspiring.......2007-09-25

I finished reading "The Money is the Gravy" a week ago and now find myself reading it again. It's just as good as all the other reviewers claimed it to be. I consider "The Money is the Gravy" to be a masterpiece among career guidance books. It's a book that will profoundly inspire you and get you excited about yourself. It's a book that will touch your soul. I would recommend it to anyone embarking on a career or dissatisfied with their current one. Beautifully written and enhanced by great quotes and Calvin and Hobbes cartoons, it is really a joy to read.

5 out of 5 stars Life-changing book, whatever your position.......2007-02-27

I read this when it first came out, and boy, am I glad I did. This book gave me the courage to take small steps towards making the changes that needed to be made. It also gave me a new way of looking at work, and clarified what I had suspected, that one 40 year career, working anywhere for 40 hours a week was the old way, and on its way out, and I'd *better* find a new way of doing things, in fact the new way of doing things could even be *better*. And it has been. How far I've come. I'm still on a journey of learning, but that is life. Life is good.

5 out of 5 stars Most important piece of reading I have done concerning my career!.......2006-12-04

If you are an INFP, on the Myers Briggs personality preference inventory, I hope you read this book. I found much of myself in this book and was able to fill in the missing pieces to many of the reasons that I am not satisfied with my career. I have started on a new career path of my own. Thanks to this book I have more understanding and courage to make a change in my life at 42 years old.

                  5 out of 5 stars Wonderful & thougth-provoking.......2006-05-04

I am reading this book for the second time in a month. I just can't say enough good things about it. I am invigorated by the ideas within it and am going to put the main concepts into action to make sure that my next job will match my innate ablities, is enjoyable and provides meaning. I'm ordering 3 copies to hand out to friends and family members.

5 out of 5 stars You don't have to be trapped........2003-10-13

I'm not a self-help kind of a person, but this book has helped inspire me to pursue a meaningful career that is based on what makes my soul feel good, not just my bank account. This book has practical information on making a positive change that is so important now, as people are remaining in careers that bring them absolutely no gratification or inner peace, but a nice paycheck. This book helped me realize that at 40, I want the last half of my working years to be fruitful on a personal note, not just financially. If you enjoy what you're doing, the money will follow, or the lack of it won't be an issue. This book has helped me begin the process.

                  4 out of 5 stars Correction.......2001-04-18

The synopsis is incorrect. This book has little to do with futures. It covers securities analysis, like the title says. Chapter titles are: The Individual Investor, Assessing Risk, Market Views, Reading Financial Statements, Types of Stocks and Their Valuation I & II, Fundamental Analysis, Technical Analysis. This book is a good overview and has enough meat to make it much more valuable than the nickel tour. The presentation is straightforward, if a bit dry; which only means it doesn't spend time on anecdotes, historical perspectives, humor, or persuading you to invest a particular way. This is expected, since it is "based on the popular classroom seminar conducted by the New York Institue of Finance".

5 out of 5 stars Great learning material.......2006-06-06

Technical Analysis is a great source for understanding and reading charts. It provides mechanical steps for each element of the chart, and builds on itself as you move forward. There are practical exercises at the end of each section for you to test yourself. It's great for wanting to know all the technical terms and financial jargon when analyzing patterns. Most textbooks that you read during school give you the information, plus a long-winded explanation followed by countless examples that provide more than what is necessary for you to know. With this book, it is straightforward and to the point with each technique that it introduces. I recommend this for anyone who wants to read technical charts like a pro.

This book did a great job in teaching you how to read technical charts. Each chapter builds on the one before and it gives you an opportunity to test out your knowledge before moving onto the next chapter. The graphs are easy to follow and the terminologies are well defined. This book does not waste time giving long winded explanations, it simply shows you what it is, what it does, and how it affects your decisions. This book is a must read for anyone who wants to learn to read technical charts effectively.

As a futures broker, from time to time, I find it difficult to explain the different methods of technical analysis to my novice customers. This book does a great job teaching the fundamentals of Technical analysis. I now recommend this book to all of my customers who need help understanding the basics. (I have, on occasion bought it for them) Another excellent book by the same author is called "Futures: A Personal Seminar". Both books are great for beginners. If you are looking for a broker who can help you in this area of trading, send me an e-mail at the above address.

WR Grace is infamous for polluting the environment in which it does business as seen in the book "A Civil Action" by Jonathan Harr and also by its ongoing asbestos litigation involving asbestos products made from its Cambridge,Mass facility. Grace is a politically astute company and Republican party supporter. In addition, it has had prominent members of the high Finance and Intelligence communities on its Board of Directors.
