Book Description
This volume presents the most complete collection available of the work of Victor Zarnowitz, a leader in the study of business cycles, growth, inflation, and forecasting..
With characteristic insight, Zarnowitz examines theories of the business cycle, including Keynesian and monetary theories and more recent rational expectation and real business cycle theories. He also measures trends and cycles in economic activity; evaluates the performance of leading indicators and their composite measures; surveys forecasting tools and performance of business and academic economists; discusses historical changes in the nature and sources of business cycles; and analyzes how successfully forecasting firms and economists predict such key economic variables as interest rates and inflation.
Product Description
A unique scholarly resource on the evolution of the business cycle facts over time and the continuing struggle of macroeconomic theory to keep up with them.

Book Description
Can knowledge of financial policies in developing countries over four decades help the socialist economies of Asia and Eastern Europe become open market economies in the 1990s? In all these countries the loss of fiscal and monetary control has often resulted in high inflation that undermines the liberalization process itself. In the second edition of The Order of Economic Liberalization, Ronald McKinnon builds on his influential work on the liberalization of financial markets in less developed countries and outlines the progression necessary to move from a "repressed" to an open economy.
New to this edition are chapters that contrast the gradual Chinese approach to liberalizing domestic and foreign trade with the "big bang" approach followed by some Eastern European countries and republics of the former Soviet Union. Financial control and macroeconomic stability, McKinnon argues, are more critical to a successful transition than is any crash program to privatize state-owned industrial assets and the banking system.
Customer Reviews:
Compilation of good policy decisions.......2003-02-17
This book takes the opposite position of Jeffrey Sachs' big bang theory of economic reform. Instead of a big bang, McKinnon suggests a particular order to economic liberalization in order to maintain some stability during the transition process. He uses many examples to show that, for example, fiscal stability should come first, which is a lesson that has proven itself current with Argentina's and Turkey's cases in the early 2000s. This is a book that, though has a strong economics foundation, leaves something to be desired in terms of rigour of economic analysis. Instead, it was written I think particularly for the usage of policy-makers who may not be familiar with technical economic jargon.
Student.......2001-04-17
This book gives insight knowledge about the monetary and fiscal policy making in the developing countries. First ten chapters of the book desribes the expereince of Far Eastern and Latin American countries' financial reforms during the 1960-80s. Especially, it would be interesting to read about the reasons of Japanese as well as Korean miraculous growth during the above mentioned period. Besides, last three chapters explain the case of transitional countries of ex-socialist economies. In his last chapters, the author compares the Russian big bang effect with Chinese gradual reforms. He also points out on the importance of fiscal as well as the liberation policies in those transional countries. Since it is based on the development models of many countries in the world,in brief, I think, the book would be very useful for the policymakers in almost all developing countries.

Up-to-date counsel on finding a great job.......2006-12-11
Few people know more about finding the right job than Jeff Taylor, founder of Monster, the world's leading career Web site. Taylor leaves no contact unused in this comprehensive guide, discussing every step of finding a new job, from writing a winning resume to avoiding mistakes during salary negotiations to building a productive network. In addition to his experience, he presents advice from recruiters, human resource professionals and Monster employees. So if he directs you to Monster's Web site a little too insistently, you can forgive him, because his book is so well written, easy to read and full of good advice. It includes a good resource list of books, Web sites and services, as well as useful exercises. We recommend this 400-page monster especially to first-time job seekers, although experienced employees seeking more money, prestige or career satisfaction may also find its tips helpful.
Highly Recommended.......2006-09-30
I highly recommend this book for anyone in a job search. The exercises in part 2 "Preparing Your Search" have given me so much more confidence by helping me understand my own accommplishments and value to employers.
It's a little annoying that the book refers to worksheets online that don't appear to actually be available.
Monster Careers : How to Land the Job of Your Life.......2005-12-21
I found this book very good in getting me up to speed with today's job market. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking.
A systematic hands-on career search training program.......2005-10-22
Strongly recommended. I have purchased three career search books and this one is the definite leader. Very clear, systematic, has a large number of examples. The book has a series of exercises and leads you through a training program not only to write a focused resume, but to change your thinking and preparation. It illustrates great professional selling techniques to help you represent yourself better.
Great Book.......2005-09-22
Sorry for the previous rating ... I though it was for the seller ... It's a great book, good for starters, but even for me that I've been in the industry for long time has some really good explanations of things.
Book Description
This is a newly revised edition of Victor Boc's hugely successful, self-published book, previously sold through direct mail. Consumers have responded strongly to his life-changing, step-by-step plan for ending money problems and achieving prosperity. By utilizing this simple but effective program, anyone can increase their cash flow to levels they have only dreamed of. Boc's proven two-pronged method teaches the reader to harness the forces that control the flow of money. The first step involves visualization and affirmations-because, as Boc explains, until you know exactly what you want and ask for it, you won't get it. The next step involves giving money away-it's a way to "prime the pump" and get the flow of money headed back in your direction. By putting this method into action, thousands of people have achieved financial success.
Customer Reviews:
beyond belief.......2006-09-20
Some weeks ago I stated in a post that I believed that this book would transform my life and it did. Three days after applying the techniques I received a check for $2,900 that I was never going to receive from a job that I was at risk of losing prior to reading this book. Then on October 13,2006 I received $1,000.00 from the title company of my home that they discovered that they owed us,even my husband asked me" where is all this money coming from?" As soon as I applied the techniques( that are simple enough for a homeless person to transform their lives)the floodgates seemed to open. One of the techniques is that you give away at least 1% of any money that comes into your life to anyone(even a family member) or to any organization of your choice. I will always be grateful to God for the day when I spotted this book on my way out of the library because it was misplaced. Don't take my word for it, read it, apply the techniques and see for yourself.
Most definitely worth a try!.......2004-11-16
I have read some of the reviews and a lot of people seem to have read the book without giving the stuff a try. One person said if it was that easy, then everyone would be rich. Well there are a lot of books out there on dieting and how to quit smoking and how to get better at "whatever". The point. Only a certain percentage of people will try the stuff. There are tons of diet books sold each year and does everybody who read these books lose weight? It does take discipline and effort. And dare I say "work". I do agree that, you should also study other materials, but change is definitely possible if you "practice" these techniques. Definitely work towards you're dreams and learn from you're failures. Setting goals, visualizing and keeping focused on them, along with good old charity, mixed in with a good old dose of positive expectation should yield some pretty surprising results
What a Wonderful World it Could Be!!.......2003-09-16
A very enjoyable read! Mr. Boc's points are just plain good livin' in my opinion. To dream, set goals, work hard and visualize may seem like the only ingredients for success, but Mr. Boc proposes a far deeper level of growth. With humor and insightfulness, he has challenged humanity to try this method and truly experience happiness. Changing reality may seem like delusion, but don't be deceived into missing out on what may be the best understanding and experience of life! My view of myself in this world continues to improve as a result of this book.
great theory.......2002-04-01
I received this book a week ago and read it twice since. Although 'm still very sceptical, I decided to give two prong method a try before I give it a bad review. And trust me, if it doesn't deliver, I will write one, but for now I give it 5 stars because it's so uplifting and well written.
It really does work!.......2001-09-19
I was given this book as a Christmas gift in 1996. I immediately put these things into practice (the visualization, affirmations and glad giving). In 1997, I received $20,000 dollars as a result of this. Mr. Boc's methods truly work. I stopped doing these in 2000 but I recently started doing them again and I have already seen results. All it takes is a vivid imagination, a little time to write your affirmations, giving a percentage of your salary and a positive attitude.

provides insight into core issues of environment-development.......1999-06-04
Haven't had the chnace to procure the book, but since the central theme is quite close to my research interest, I am commenting on the basis of the Tableof Contenets and other books by the same author; ewhich seem pretty impressive in terms of the title / subject matter. The sale of 130,000 copies is equally impressive. ( Costing Earth..) I haven't kept uptodate in my readings the way I should, but this particular/ unique area has not been covered very often- not in the focus Ms Cairncross has taken - which also coincides with my personal interest. My comments could only be superficial at this point, not having had the chance to leaf through the book, as yet. Might rush to the library and cram it into my reading (Must) list. Quite obviously, Ms Cairncross has probably picked up the interest from working with the Economist - and an interest in the environment, sooner or later evolved into an understanding of the intertwining of these two issues. It would really be intersting to see the actual ideas flow on from this choice of topic. The Table of Contents provided a good size catalogue of issues, which is a bit distracting to the succinct treatment of the central theme of the book - if one was intended, or rather, if the obvious ( as spelled out by the title of the book )theme was the focal point of the flow of new (?) ideas. There was a tendency towards the end of the book to attempt to cover all topics in the fear of neglect an issue. this had an unfortunate effect of distracting away from the main focal theme. The conclusion could bear one or belie this observation. in any case keep up the good work along this ' uniquely ' important topic. aidylcottage@usa.net. Would be interested to get in touch with the author to further discuss this commentary.

Eye-Opening Book.......2006-11-11
My friend has been in MLM for 20 years and still is as poor as he's ever been. He's traveling every week to show "the business" to someone, trying to get them to sign up so they will be as poor as he is. If you want to know what drives such insanity, read "All That Glitters is Not God."
Throw the baby out with the bath water.......1999-11-29
I was disappointed with this book simply because it lacked specifics. It was written in a vague sense of the MLM industry that could be applied to nearly any profession where money is a lure. Rather than being a balanced review of an industry, it smacks of one's bitter experience with a specific company. My challenge to the author is to write a guide book on MLM's based on biblical principles that shows the pros, cons and how to avoid the pitfalls of the industry.
This book exposes the futility in chasing after MLM success.......1999-09-26
Very well written book on how the MLM business sucks us into a wearisome pursuit of wealth by showing us how we are "discontent" with our current situation and alluring us into wanting more and more--and sometimes at the expense of those we love. I've been involved with an MLM for seven years and for the last three have basically just purchased products, but have been wondering if I "missed the boat" somehow by not pursuing MLM vigilantly to obtain my "financial freedom". What I've discovered over the last three years is PEACE from all the running here and there and my ministry to others has increased tremendously since I'm not so consumed with my own "success". This book confirmed to me that I've made the right decision to cease MLM activities and is an excellent guide for anyone caught in the MLM web of deceit.
Gives spiritual help in getting out multilevel marketing.......1999-06-25
This book exposes the "sweet deceit" associated with multilevel marketing (MLM). It describes what happens in MLMs and it offers the reader spiritual guidance and assistance to break out of MLM.
