Customer Reviews:
Have you ever..........2000-04-04
Have you ever wondered how people jump-start their careers in speaking, training, or consulting? This book, 21 Ways to Springboard Your Speaking, Training & Consulting Career by Marjorie Brody, CSP, gives many good suggestions for how people do exactly that. The book is concise and easy to read. Brody is very practical and realistic with her suggestions. At the start of the book, she gives a list of questions for the reader to answer in regards to their career. These questions help the reader to start to think about their own careers so that they can compare and contrast her suggestions to what they do. Going along with this, Brody inserts a page at the end of most of the 21 suggestions to allow room for the reader to write how or what they can do to implement that suggestion. Even though I was not able to use this feature at this time, I found it to be a good practical way for professionals to try to incorporate the author's suggestions into their own careers. It gives them space to think about the suggestions and how they can apply them. Her style of writing is straightforward, which makes this book a quick read. Each suggestion is a separate chapter, and the supporting materials within the chapters are bulleted for easy reference. I had no problem understanding the language or how the suggestions could be implemented. As far as I could tell from the introduction and the rest of the text, Brody uses or has used these tactics for becoming a successful speaker, trainer, and consultant to get to where she is today. For this reason, I feel that the information is very practical and useful for professionals in these fields. She knows what she is talking about and is able to show this in the way that she writes. In terms of the content of the book, I think that it is good. As one progresses through the book, they notice that there seems to be some repetition, but I feel that this is important. For example, she talks about networking, membership in professional organizations, and getting references in many of the suggestions. I think that this repetition helps the reader to understand just how important these simple things really are to the speaker, trainer, and consultant. One of the downfalls of this book is the fact that it focuses almost exclusively on external speaker, trainer, and consultant. There is one mention of the internal professional near the end of the book saying that they can implement most of the suggestions, but that is all that is ever said. I feel that this is something that Brody should have been stated earlier in the book or could have been implement throughout each suggestion. Overall, I feel that this book, 21 Ways to Springboard Your Speaking, Training & Consulting Career by Marjorie Brody, CSP, is a good way for speakers, trainers, and consultants to evaluate their current careers. It is a straightforward and extremely helpful guide to improve one's career. One does not need to implement all of the suggestions right away; even just a few of them could help the reader take their career to the next level.

Book Description
Have you ever had a million-dollar idea that someone else made a million on? So You've Got a Great Idea can help you be that one person who cashes in on an innovative product, service, business, or novelty item. Like Marvin Rosenblum, who made the most of Spiro Agnew's reputation(he also produced the movie "1984"), and ann Moore, who created the Snugli, you too, can take your idea from the drawing board to the bank. Steve Fiffer shows you how to tell whether your idea is a winner or a clunker and , through entertaining profiles of successful innovators, helps you decide how to follow through on it: Should you sell the idea to an established business or go into business for yourself? Do you want to work on the idea full-time or part-time? At home or in an office? You'll also discover the advantages and disadvantages of professional services, whether to apply for a patent, how to use government agencies and find financing. Here are stories of ordinary people who have had extraordinary ideas that have changed their lives. You will read about: Gordon and Carole Segal, who were struck with the idea for Crate and Barrel over their kitchen sink Kip Fuller, who created the Servitron Robot because he couldn't afford a caterer at his Christmas party Jeffrey Ullman, who combined his talent for making documentaries with a knack for sales and opened one of the first video dating services in America. Lynn Tatar, whose talent for chocolate novelties transformed her kitchen into The Amazing Chocolate Factory and more Having a great idea is one thing; making a great idea make money is what this book is all about.

Book needs a different title........2003-09-29
I was disappointed in this book. It would be more appropriate if it were titled "Examples of people who started their own business". The book also gives instruction on incorporating, but you can get that information (freely) elsewhere.
It seemed to me that the author was just writing for the sake of writing and making money. Nothing insightful was said.
It was dry reading.

Customer Reviews:
Handle with care! Please!.......2007-05-27
I am dismayed by reading all of the praise for this book! Coming from the perspective of a voice teacher and professional vocalist, I am concerned at the number of people following blindly into the potentially damaging advice in the book. I have an old one from 1999, along with instruction CD's, and Love demonstrates his glottal action (which is the technical term for his "gluggs" that he tells you to do). I think I rated as low as I did simply to attempt to lower the overall rating and get people to pay attention to the potential danger.
It is true that glottle action helps to develop a more forward voice, and that is why songs with glotal emphasis can be valuable. However, to spend as much time doing these exercises as Lov recommends, can cause permanent damage. As the vocal folds are repeatedly slapped against one another, the abrasion will quickly cause fatigue and irritation within the vocal apparatus, particularily the delicate vocal folds. Over time, your skin will become calloused and you will not feel the abraision anymore, but that's only because of the long-term damage that has occurred.
Rather than this, I recommend The Vocal Coach by Chris & Carol Beaty (published by Star Song). They have a wide range of instructional tools, and a phenominal daily workout series for all voice types.
Great Book.......2007-05-17
This book is incredible. I had no idea I ever had the potential to improve my speaking voice. I do the exercises almost every night, and can see serious results in my singing voice. I'm now working on incorporating the singing voice into my every day speech (they are really one and the same), and feel much more optimistic about using the incredible instrument of my voice to get my message across to people in a much more efficient and pleasant way in the future.
Thank you, Roger Love.
Very informative.......2007-05-14
I am a music director at a local church resposible for teaching vocals. I can not sing, but because of the information in this book I can teach and instruct the vocalist. This book is a must if you want to teach correct breathing control and diaphramic breathing.
The bible of pop singing.......2007-05-09
Play the included CD in your car for the next 3 months and sing along. If after those exercises you don't have good voice control, you're doing something wrong because the exercises DO put you in the proper position for maximum flow and you eventually develop a continuous, steady, vocal pressure.
I had to learn sing with a jazz band a year ago , and without this book and CD I would have been lost. There are lots of people who will give you their opinion as to the proper way to sing, but few who know the mechanics behind it.
Though the book has a bit of hype related to the name-dropping, it is nonetheless an excellent text on how to sing pop music, properly.
Would have liked some guidance on how to sing properly with microphones as I found that the next problem one faces in pop music
Review of Set Your Voice Free.......2007-01-05
I found it to very helpful, although as a "Basso Profundo" I found it difficult at times "Setting my voice free" in the higher head tones.

- I now do work I love and I am well paid for it.
Customer Reviews:
Few cards, great messages.......2007-08-09
Just a caveat: There are only 12 cards in this pack. However, they are packed with powerful messages. I keep one propped by my bathroom mirror each day to remember the spiritual message throughout my day.
Beautiful little powerhouses!.......2007-02-11
These cards are beautiful - capturing simple, yet profound, truths that can go a long way toward training the brain to follow better paths of thought. Humankind can explore space, yet our own brains are still quite a mystery to us. We do know that we have tools through which we can teach ourselves, and Louise Hay seems to be a pioneer on that front.

Book Description
CONTINUOUS CASTING A REVOLUTION IN STEEL
Heinrich Tanner was working in a Swiss law office in the summer of 1954 when he received a call from Irving Rossi, one of the pioneers who developed the first marketable continuous casting process. Rossi asked Tanner to join him as general manager in a new venture to prove that the process had incredible commercial potential.
At lunch, Rossi the born salesman, kept right on with his passionate discourse about the sort of aggressive enterprise Concast would become. The force of his personality impressed me so much that I turned to him at the end...and said, O.K., lets give it a try. He hired me on the spot with a handshake, which to this day remained the sole basis of my employment contract with Concast. ...
This was the beginning of a lifetime achievement that introduced the concept of minimills, pools for machine builders and licensees, and the development of multi-strand casting, to the steel industry and the world. Rossi and Tanner built a company that became so dominate in the steel industry that European and American governments ordered it dissolved.
When Concast controlled more than 60 percent of the world market it was forced to reorganize because the antitrust authorities in Washing and in the European Common Market feared the development of a monopolistic situation.
H. Tanners acclaimed personal account of the rise and eventual dismemberment of Concast AG, a balance of technical details, recollections and anecdotes, tell the fascinating story of the revolutionary process known as continuous casting and its impact on steel, the worlds most important material.
The author was born in 1925 in eastern Switzerland. After studying law in Switzerland, Paris and the Hague, he earned his doctors degree in law at the University of Berne, passed the bar examination, and briefly practiced law in New York and in eastern Switzerland.
Besides acting as president of Concast AG, Dr. Tanner engaged as CONTINUOUS CASTING A REVOLUTION IN STEEL
