During the last decade of the twentieth century, the Korean peninsula was the stage for non-stop, dramatic political and economic events. This volume brings together an unusually broad range of perspectives on US policy towards North Korea, the North Korean economy, and North-South economic co-operation and unification. The year 2000 opened a new chapter on the Korean peninsula; the North-South summit in June was no doubt a historical milestone that could lead to major changes on the peninsula. But the fundamental issues herein addressed are still relevant and important. No overnight solutions or magic bullets exist. Essential ingredients for North-South economic co-operation, ranging from regional security matters to policy nuts and bolts, remain little changed.

Just as in the book 101 ways to be Romantic, I found some of the sugestions to be absurd and silly. This atleast, is true for me. There are some things I would not do in 101 years. For the most part, I found many good ideas and I have tried a few and found them to be successful. The ideas that I won't try might be the ones that work great for you. Get this book and if you only find a few good ideas or 101, you will be better off than if you had left this book on the shelf.

A terrific primer on how to kill during that big interview. My wife and I both read it before we had important interviews and we both landed the job. This book is an easy read that offers clear guidelines on how to sell yourself to a potential employer. The best part is that it teaches you "skills," instead of providing a bunch of cheesy responses to interview questions.

This book is much more than some list of common interview questions. This book helps you understand the employer's concerns behind interview questions. Once you understand what the employer's concerns are, you can form your best answers to those tough interview questions. It will help you put the interview process into the proper perspective so that you can present yourself in the proper light. It has useful information on all of the important aspects of interviewing and follow up. I am in mid-career, not completely new to interviewing, and I still found this book very helpful. I would recommend this book for any job seeker.

This is an excellent book for people who just don't understand what interviews are all about. It take an uncertain thing - the interview - and put parameters and structure around it. I now have a much better sense of what the interview is supposed to acocmplish, which is not necessarily what one might instinctively know.

Sunk Costs and Market Structure bridges the gap between the new generation of game theoretic models that has dominated the industrial organization literature over the past ten years and the traditional empirical agenda of the subject as embodied in the structure-conduct-performance paradigm developed by Joe S. Bain and his successors.

The new theoretical literature has engendered pessimism in recent years because many results turn out to depend on detailed features of the market that are difficult to measure. This has led many observers to argue that the new literature offers little basis for the kind of cross-industry studies that have formed the empirical base of the subject since the 1950s. Using current game-theoretic methods, John Sutton reexamines the traditional agenda. He argues that despite the "delicate" nature of many results, there are theoretical predictions that turn out to be extremely robust to reasonable changes in model specification, and these results should be taken into account when looking for statistical regularities across a broad spectrum of different industries.

Sutton draws on a wide range of historical sources and on an intensive program of company interviews to assemble a matrix of industry studies relating to twenty markets within the food and drink sector, in six countries - France, the Federal Republic of Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States. He combines theory, econometric evidence, and a detailed account of the various patterns of evolution of structure found in these industries in a rigorous evaluation of the strengths and limitations of a game-theoretic approach in explaining the evolution of industrial structure.

Exogenous barriers to entry and market structure.......2000-03-26

I studied this book in my first year of graduate school in economics in a course on Industrial Organization. I highly recommend this book. It is NOT a text book, it does not review the state of the art in I.O., it is Sutton's theory about market structure and concentration as shaped by EXOgenous barriers to entry.

I liked the book because it tries to explain market structure using OBSERVABLE variables, because it tests the theory both via case study and via econometric methods and because it is full of innovative ideas. I want to mention in particular the way in which Sutton tackles the problem of multiplicity of equilibria, what he calls "the bound approach"

A few months ago Sutton published a companion book called Technology and Market Structure in which he carries over the same line of research to endogenous barriers to entry.
