This 300 page book is aimed at communicating ideas that consultants can implement to solve their everyday problems. In 15 chapters, the author follows a Question and Answer format to suggest these everyday solutions.
All the way from getting ready to start a consulting business and how to get good clients to charging the right price and getting clients to pay, this book leaves almost no stone unturned. I honestly can't think of anything else the author could have addressed for a book of this nature.
I found Chapter 11: Painless Paying, Chapter 13: Financing a Consulting Business, Chapter 7: Charge the Right Price, and Chapter 15: Hanging it Up the most beneficial for my particular situation and experience. My favorite chapter was Chapter 11: Painless Paying that addresses what to do to get your clients to pay.
Overall, this is a fantastic purchase for the price. If you are a new consultant don't hesitate and just get the book. Even if you have been a consultant for a few years, you will still find some ideas worth the investment. Good luck!

I am an upcoming MBA student and career switcher. I was looking to get an overview of the different careers for MBA graduates but the book did not deliver. The reviews of different career options were vague and the careers were not specifically geared towards MBAs. It didn't clear up any questions I had about different careers. It didn't address number of hours/week associated with a typical career, nor travel requirements or work experience required. The book was definitely not helpful.

How great to see a guide out there just for MBAs. It really showed just how many options are available to me with this degree. I appreciate that all the big firms are profiled in one spot. It's made my job research a lot more efficient.

THE career guide for MBA students.......2003-02-20
As a fellow MBA, I know how much time and effort my peers have and will put towards their job searches. This guide has been a great resource in getting me thinking about the many options open to me, more than I even thought. This is the best place to start if you're at the beginning of your career exploration, or even if you've been floating for a while. It provides a range of information at your fingertips and saves a lot of time you might spend surfing the net to find out about different industries and careers. The listing of main companies and additional resources provided with each section were also helpful in taking my own research further. I strongly recommend this guide. It is a great investment.
Getting my feet wet.......2003-02-20
It's good to read up on the wide variety of opportunities available to a first-year MBA student such as myself. It's encouraging to know that the possibilities are out there in a range of industries. Now I'm following up by looking at a few of Wetfeet's specific industry guides -- particularly the Careers in Investment Banking and Careers in Asset Management & Retail Brokerage guides.

An uneven book, but recommended nonetheless........2004-05-07
I enjoy personal finance books. Call it a sickness, but I do.
I like Mr. Johnson's emphasis on simplicity: a stock index fund and a bond index fund are the only investing vehicles most people need. And trying to buy individual stocks is a fool's game. Okay, great.
But he treats immediate annuities with scorn (in a chapter called "Stupid Investment Tricks") even though they are the simplest and safest way to make sure some of your retirement money stretches out over your lifetime. Johnson handles this task with disciplined withdrawing of principal, which, while more efficient, is definitely not the "simple" solution.
He also recommends timing taxable events to correspond with the tax year. While I agree with that, it felt awfully complicated for such a small payout, especially for a book with this title. Imagine finding ten pages of multivariable calculus in the middle of a 6th grade math text.
The section on insurance, however, was great. He uses his actual insurance bills and explains the terms, and then describes what he does and doesn't have covered and why. I've never seen a personal finance book do this before, and it helped me a *lot* more than just reading some more theory. I was going to give this book only three stars, but the insurance chapter alone bumps it up to four.
Now if only his college funding chapter hadn't stopped just at the very moment it got interesting.

This book title is perfect as the author has made it simple to understand investing terms. Though I have an understanding of credit and budgeting issues, investing has always been harder for me. This book is a great resource! It is educational and entertaining! Anyone who does any investing should keep a copy to refer to if you haven't previously been on close terms with investing topics.

Straight forward (easy) approach to managing money. Stock Brokers and other investment professionals are going to hate this book because it shows you how to invest wisely and cut out their fees. You get to keep the difference! Oh, some pretty good humor too. Buy it, read it, and prosper.

I just read that the digital version is the first digital book admitted into in the Library of Congress. Anyway, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Wireless Web is a guide for ebusiness executives with an emphasis on practical results. It shows how to execute a wireless Web strategy. I liked that it covered what the obstacles are and especially how to overcome them. Highly recommended!
