The introductory chapter of the book provides a synthesis of Peru's public expenditure reform agenda from the Bank's perspective. This book is a great guideline for evaluating consultants. I've met many consultants that actually could have written this book. Lots of humor, but also very practical tips for the wannabees. And yes, some tips are really good tips (never have a bigger car than your customer).

Tongue-in-cheek recommendations for would-be consultants.......1998-07-21

"Bluff your way in Consultancy" is one of a line of "Bluff" books written in London. Although reprinted in 1994, it was originally written in 1986 and is only 62 pages long. The book is a combination of droll English humor and real suggestions for consultants. The problem is, it's not always easy to know where one stops and the other begins. Clearly, we know we're being winked at and nudged when the author suggests we purchase a "blow up chauffeur" to place in our rented car. On the other hand, there are some very good tips as well. Hey, the book is cheap and it's a fun read. Just don't make it your only reference if you plan on becoming a consultant.

The Bluffer's guides are a well-written, funny and informative bunch of pamphlets. I read five of them cover to cover while waiting for a friend in a bookshop, and I must say that this one was the weak link in the chain. It has (like the others) wit and irreverence, but it lacks the precision and hard facts that the guides to wine, ballet, jazz, and others have. In short, this book might be of mild humor to folks who actually are consultants, but as a ``bluffer's guide'' it fails.

Nice try, nice title but needs more work..........1999-03-03

I found it to be sometimes incomplete and sometimes very confusing (especially unacceptable methods of pricing)...

Only useful for a privately held small business under $5M.......1996-10-24

The book spends most of the text explaining unacceptable methods of valuing a company. The author says that all of these methods are not applicable for companies under $30M in sales. I disagree! Using Discounted Cash Flow methods to place a value on a company is widely accepted compared to "rule of thumb" approaches. His explanation of the DCF and other NPV methods is also flawed. He ignores the cash flow impact of debt, capital expenditures and working capital changes! His book is only good for a small business owner with sales probably under $3M to $5M.

A well written textbook, resource and educational tool........1999-03-01

This book is a tool for job and career success. It is a classroom textbook or can be used alone as other books published in a self-help format. For the person that is willing to put the time into doing the exercises the rewards are great. This is especially true for those still in school/college without a lot of work experience.

The review that was placed with this book title is judging the book not as a text book that is part of a classroom setting. I am sure that any text book would get a poor review when quick/easy answers are wanted. But when true knowledge and a sure path is wanted, this textbook has more depth than a 50 page quick fix.

Educational and Insightful.......2006-07-08

I have read a number of financial planning books just to get different views from financial advisors and I have to say that this one tops my list. I myself am a financial planner and currently studying for my CFP. This book was an easy read for those who may not know too much about financial planning. It also contains a wealth of information and insight to provide value to people like me who have a financial background. One of the comments I read about the book before I read it made it seem as having an advisor with a CFP did not matter. As Mr. Zhang points out in his book only 4% of advisors have their CFP because it is such a rigorous process that includes a two day 10 hr exam! After all if it was a simple exam why wouldn't all advisors get certified? I really enjoyed reading this book and I have recommended it to my other colleagues.

This book is one of the best on the market today relating to personal financial planning. I found it to be very well organized and complete; it covered all the ESSENTIAL areas of financial planning. The ideas that were presented by the author are sound, and extremely logical.

This book was actually recommended to me by my father. He is approaching the retirement stage and wanted to ensure that his finances would allow for him to retire with my mother comfortably. He told me that the book did a good job of covering issues he was concerned with like retirement and estate planning but would also provide value for me and be a good place to start if I wanted to take control of my financial life.

I took his advice and purchased this book and I found it to be thoroughly comprehensive in describing financial products and planning techniques. It is perfect for investors of all ages who are looking to secure their financial future.

This truly is a great financial planning book. If I could give it 6 stars I would. It is set up in a concise, life events style with easy to understand examples. Being that I am new to family life as well as financial planning this book has really helped me to take a step back, evaluate and not only plan for my future, but for the future of my family.

Overall, I would say that this book is the best book in the market on personal financial planning that I have read. It is complete, covers all the essential areas of financial planning. The financial planning ideas are logical and clearly presented for people who may be new to financial planning and even those who are already experienced.

An Excellent Resource!.......2006-02-02

For many people, the thought of handing over their money to a financial planner is somewhat daunting, especially if they have limited knowledge of the financial planning process. In their book "Make Yourself a Millionaire..." Charles and Lynn Zhang do an excellent job of breaking down and explaining both what you should consider when choosing a financial planner, and what sort of service you should expect once you have chosen one.
I was speaking with a friend about how overwhelmed I was with this process; after all, these days you cannot turn on the TV or surf the web without seeing some sort of advertisement from someone who claims they can help you with your finances. She mentioned that she had heard about this book and suggested that I should look into it. I am so glad that I did. Not only was this book easy to read and understand, but it covers a wide range of topics, from explaining the certification process a CFP goes through, to outlining the benefits of different investment tools, such as mutual funds, bonds, and REITS. Additionally, I believe that those of you who are planning on setting up college funds for your children would benefit greatly from reading the Zhang's discussion of UGMA accounts, 529 plans, and Education IRA's. A chart is even provided to help break down the differences between these options, as well as a few others.
Reading this book helped me to both confidently choose a financial planner and feel at ease when discussing my investments. A must read for the beginning investor!!

Excellent Financial Planning Tool.......2005-10-04

This book is extremely helpful for the beginning investor. The book outlines the important aspects and steps of the financial planning process. Included are great strategies and facts for tax-free asset growth and efficient asset allocation. In addition, the author effectively explains complex, yet essential, information about different investment products such as REIT's, mutual funds, bonds and annuities.

This book gives readers the confidence to take control of their own financial future, while emphasizing the importance of having a financial planner. The role, significance and benefits of hiring a financial planner are explained in detail. Overall, the authors have given the reader excellent information to make a very important decision. Ultimately it is up to the reader to decide if their situation is simple enough to handle themselves, or if they would benefit from the expertise of a Certified Financial Planner.

Good, Comprehensive History of Boeing.......2003-07-31

I found this book provided a well written history of the Boeing corporation, from its roots with a short airplane ride for Bill Boeing to becoming the largest producer of commercial jets in the world, and the second largest defense contractor in the United Sates. The achievements of ths company are truly amazing, as well as the aircraft they have built, from the B-17 Flying Fortress to the 747-400 Jumbo Jet.If you've ever flown in a commercial jet before, it was probably built by Boeing. Read this book if you want to learn more about the company that has had perhaps the greatest effect on transportation in our time.

Exelent book with wonderful pictures and tons info on Boeing. It talks about Boeing from the begining of the company, and up to the recent Boeing 777 and merger with McDonnel Douglas in 1996. This book is very informative on Boeing's history and I really like it.

Nice book about Boeing.......2001-01-14

I especially like airliners, and I am not so much into military planes. Therefore the large sections on the B17, B29, B47 etc downgraded my rate to a 4 star. But I must admit, the (military GA-2) section was very funny. My copy is an old one from 1983. So the chapter 'A new era' shows the prototypes of the 757 and 767 and a model of a 7-7 (certainly not a 777). Check out what the new era is now. All aircraft are covered including the lesser known beautiful 307 Stratoliner and the classic model 247. Lots of colorfull pictures, and a informative text. A real nice to have book if you are interested in that other company from Seattle
