Economic Security in the Post Cold-War era.......2000-06-02
To gain the economic security is not just keep one nation¡¦s scale or the firms as the big as possible. This book told us that biggest are not the key element for the economic dimensions of international system. To build up a related-capability is more important for global power like U.S.
One purpose for the authors is to emphasis the importance of economic instruments for national security in the post-cold era, which had been seen as ¡§low level politics¡¨ before!
It would be better to emphasis the ¡§Economic Security¡¨ in the title of this book, not just use the term like ¡§The Economic Dimension of National Security¡¨!

Saudi Arabia Enters the Twenty-First Century: The Political, Foreign Policy, Economic, and Energy Dimensions
Anthony H. Cordesman Manufacturer: Praeger Publishers ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0275979989 |
Book Description
As the world carefully monitors tensions in the Middle East, Saudi Arabia increasingly finds itself the center of political scrutiny in both its internal and external relations. With its military capabilities largely dependent upon the United States and other Western forces, Saudi Arabia cannot concentrate on internal change at the expense of external security. This study looks beyond a narrow definition of political stability to examine the implications of Saudi Arabia's changes in external relations with Iran and Iraq, as well as its cooperation with the other Southern Gulf States. Cordesman explores the issue of succession in the Royal Family, the immediate political probabilities, and the generational changes that are occurring. Growing uncertainties in the world energy market continue to impact nearly every facet of the Saudi economy. Saudi Arabia faces ongoing demographic problems, as well as a need to diversify and restructure its economy. The Kingdom must find a way to adapt its traditional culture, religious customs, education, and political structure to the needs of a modern nation. Such change will come neither quickly nor easily. And with King Fahd's health in question and Crown Prince Abdullah already in his mid-seventies, major questions remain as to how the regime's future will ultimately affect the delicate balance in the entire region.

How to Hide Money from Your Hu...And Other Time-Honored Ways to Build A Nest Egg: The Best Kept Secret of Marriage
Heidi Evans Manufacturer: Simon & Schuster ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover Similar Items:

While researching a Wall Street Journal story on married women and money, journalist Heidi Evans discovered that secret savings accounts were commonplace--regardless of age, background, and economic status. In How to Hide Money from Your Husband ... and Other Time-Honored Ways to Build a Nest Egg, Evans explores the advantages of stashing personal cash from the eyes (and control) of a spouse while outlining a series of ways that it can effectively be done. Evans argues that, given the uncertainties of modern life, such behavior may be necessary: "Face facts, ladies. Virtually half of you will be divorced in your lifetime. Are you financially prepared for what comes next?" She presents stories of women who are already stockpiling money in closets, mutual funds, and even real estate, and offers suggestions and observations from the likes of Ann Landers, psychotherapist Sharyn Wolf, and divorce attorney Myrna Felder. Those in secure and fiscally balanced relationships may balk at her contentions, but Evans asserts that such activity can also strengthen a good marriage by creating resources that could eventually be used for the benefit of both partners. --Howard RothmanBook Description
When Heidi Evans's ninety-one-year-old aunt died, her sons were dumbstruck to discover a bankbook with a balance of $50,000 hidden in her top drawer. She had been a devoted housewife and mother all of her adult life -- so where had the money come from? But the women in the family just smiled. They knew. Like generations of women, Aunt Lee had been building a nest egg, stashing away a few dollars a week from her household allowance (and maybe sometimes from Uncle Irving's pockets) so that she could have a little money of her very own -- for a rainy day, for her kids, or just to pay for her dreams.
Now Evans revives this age-old practice of stowing away money and shows women of all ages how a nest egg can make marriage more secure and more fun, and divorce or widowhood less devastating. This award-winning journalist shows us just how the nest egg works by introducing us to a fascinating variety of women whose marriages have been marked by the war over money. These intimate and revealing stories give us a clear view of the financial landscape within marriage today, from relationships in which men control the money -- and their wives -- to families in which women can openly save their own money for the years ahead.
And so we meet Veronica, a hair colorist in her twenties who stashes $20 a day from her tips so she can pay for the little luxuries she and her new husband would like. And Meryl, whose husband left her for a younger woman after twenty-five years of marriage and who now finds that divorce has generated a desperate need for private savings. Later, we meet Irene, a seventy-seven-year-old for whom early widowhood might have meant poverty for her and her sons if she hadn't been so smart about creating a nest egg.
The age-old tradition of the nest egg has become more important for women than ever. Indeed, financial security is the number-one problem facing women today, in and out of marriage. Women are still earning only 76 cents to every dollar earned by men and champing at the bit to have equal footing -- or at least the ability to buy that third pair of black pumps without an argument. What to do? Save a little for yourself...with the full knowledge of your husband (if you can) or on the sly (if you must). Whether you pick your husband's pockets or work like a dog for your own paycheck, money is marriage insurance, and it's nonnegotiable.
So what are you waiting for?

Morally Vapid.......2001-05-30
Why is it more acceptable to steal from a person with whom you are supposed to share your greatest trust... your spouse, than to steal from an impersonal retail establishment?
Look at the words... Time Honored Tradition. As if women have been engaging in petty (or not so petty) theft from their spouses for "generations" making it a "tradition" and therefore acceptable.
Theft is taking that which is not yours. Betrayal is breaking trust granted in good faith. This book encourages women to engage in theft and betrayal, and then rationalize the behaviour by calling it a "time honored tradition".
This book gives ammo to misogynists. It can not possibly be a good thing for women. Read it, just to see how morally vapid we can be.
