Book Description
When Getting Rich Quick Just Isn't Fast Enough! Many day trading books on the market today contain dubious advice, but never before has there been a book guaranteed to contain 100 percent dubious advice--until now.
The Trillionaire Next Door is that book. Inside you'll find: The rock-solid, scientific principles of day trading explained in language so clear and concise it's almost insulting A glossary of key economic terms for the day trader, like "mousepad" and "click" Advice for the long-term investor: which stocks to hold in your portfolio for five, ten, fifteen minutes or more Confusing, meaningless graphs and charts Bad math And much, much more--but since day traders have short attention spans, not too much more
"If The Trillionaire Next Door were a stock, I'd buy it, sell it, buy it, sell it, and buy it again--it's that good!" --Stacy Gellman, day trader
Customer Reviews:
This is why the stock market crashed q;o).......2004-06-18
I LOVE this book. The author's tongue-in-cheek humour is similar to that of Dilbert Creator Scott Adams in many of his early [non-comic] books. The book is a laugh-a-second and for the relatively cheap price, it's worth it.
The Trillionaire Where?.......2004-03-26
When you get tired of reading through dreary stock market books, grab this one and head off to the park. Relax for an hour or so as humorist Andy Borowitz makes light of even the most serious of Wall Street's protestations as he educates you to his "The Ten Principles of Day Trading." Drum roll, please.
Of course, stocks have always been a favorite target of humorists. Mark Twain: "October: This is one of the peculiarly dangerous months to speculate in stocks. The others are July, January, September, April, November, May, March, June, December, August, and February." Or try Will Rogers: "Don't gamble; take all your savings and buy some good stock and hold it till it goes up, then sell it. If it don't go up, don't buy it." The strange thing about humor is that there's usually a lot of truth underneath.
Now we get Borowitz, the satirist, in his best form to expose The *Recent* Emperor's New Clothes. From the computer cowboys riding their monitors from dawn to dusk (and into the night), to the official corporate and governmental pronouncements, to the analysts' hype, to the media's cheerleading, to our own self-delusions, everything and everyone comes in for a good drubbing. Reminds me of taking what we thought we were supposed to be serious about during the mania and hanging it out on the line for sport. Makes us look silly. And looking back at it with 5 years hindsight, you really wouldn't want to see that home movie showing how you explained to the children that you were getting rich in the great boom either. About the only sign of the times Borowitz didn't pulverize was the major TV network news programs profiling movie stars and taxicab drivers as prescient stock pickers. That just had to be the final signal that a top was near, and ranks right up there with the bellhops of 1929. A good, quick read, and a lot of fun too. Refer back to it next time things get too good to be true.
Borowitz is a funny man. But this shorts out near the end........2003-11-12
Well, Andy Borowitz probably doesn't need this book to get rich. He wrote a few better ones and has this funny website borowitzreport.com. But this is definitely a strong effort. TBnD has aged much better than the tech stock boom it pillories. It contains all the hackneyed stuff you'd expect from your average self help book. Only the narrator giving the advice? A clearly deceitful jerk who claims to be a trillionaire.
TBnD starts as a brilliant parody of self-help and obviously scammy Financial Success books, starting with a vision of what it's like to be a trillionaire--because hey, even billionaires have to answer to Congress. The writer seems in command--until he inadvertently reveals details of his personal life through carefully chosen 'examples to the reader.' Useless diagrams and five-point strategies abound--quite impressive for such a thin book. Belly laughs are guaranteed--at the start.
But then the jokes about how the writer's just a loser living with his family pile up. It's a bit too obvious. The humor about why to buy a stock gets a bit too random or falls back on overused images or replays something that had shock value the first time. If you've ever read a satirical article where the caption said it all and the rest is on autopilot, this runs out of gas in the same way, but it takes longer to. Borowitz didn't really find his groove until Who Moved My Soap, about people who really did find ways to make money in stocks. But wound up in prison. And still had a life affirming story.
Overall TBnD takes less time to peruse than one of those looping infomercials, and any humor is actually intentional. For a small investment you're guaranteed a few belly laughs, so why not. Might even help you laugh at a speculation you want to forget from the tech boom days. Borowitz deserves credit for skewering the tech boom for what it was before many actual economists, but the humor does fizzle near the end.
Simply Awesome.......2001-06-24
I just graduated from college and received this as a gift. It takes some guts to admit that you're a day trader these days, but I still am, and I thought this book was awesome! Very funny and scarily, scarily true. Read it for yourself and see, the writer here doesn't miss any targets.
This Book Made My Father's Day Complete.......2001-06-22
I've been a stockbroker and an investor for over twenty-five years. My daughter says that I'm difficult to shop for, but this past Father's Day she hit the nail on the head with "The Trillionaire Next Door." A funny, FUNNY book! But it's more than that: it's a satiric catalogue of just about every stupid mistake investors (and, okay, stockbrokers, too) often make. Now I'm buying copies to give to all of my clients. It has a unique brand of humor that's really hard to describe in a review, but trust me -- if you're even a novice investor, you'll find plenty to laugh about (and learn from) in this book. Thank you, Nina (my lovely daughter)!
Customer Reviews:
READ THIS BOOK.......2002-11-08
This book is great. The reviews who have criticized this book are very uninformed people, who clearly do nothing besides preserving the status quo. I can picture them now eating their caviar while rolling down Rodeo Drive in a BMW. Anyways, read this book. Read anything and everything by Kevin Danaher, Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, Vandana Shiva, etc. Open your eyes to what is going on in the world. We, the people, can, and must, reclaim our power.
Self-Congratulatory, Self-Serving and a Waste of Time.......2001-07-28
One wonders what those who contributed to this one-dimensional effort to justify or explain the anarchy in the streets at recent international meetings did with their time before they took up protesting as a profession. Certainly not work in the field of development for a serious organization trying to make a difference in the lives of those in developing countries. Who appointed them to speak on behalf of these poor? This book is a waste of time for anyone seriously concerned about the three billion people who live in poverty. It is unintentionally revealing of a group of people who presume to criticize organizations owned and run by legitimate governments accountable to their citizens, operating in a transparent fashion with clear identification of where their funding comes from and where it goes. The irony is that these self-declared protectors of the poor have been elected by no one, operate in relative secrecy, are intolerant of criticism and do not publicly disclose the sources of their funding.
A good read.......2001-01-23
This is a very good book if you are just beginning to be interested in the politics and actions of the Bretton Woods instititions. It is one of the few books I have found in this area of criticism that does a good job of including actual data to back its claims without dragging the reader down in economic methodolgy.
I personally feel that every member of the developed world should read this book just to know how they are being indirectly represented abroad through their tax-dollars.
A splendid crash course.......2000-08-22
If you want to find out what the protests in Seattle (anti-WTO, December 1999) and Washington, DC (anti-World Bank and IMF, April 2000) were about, go for this book. Concise pieces of about five pages each written by leading figures of the movement for global social and economic justice, with pointers to books and organizations if you want to know more - this book is one of the best intros to the movement known to me.
Simple-minded rantings of self-righteous malcontents.......2000-04-15
This book is written by people who think moral purity is directly tied to poverty, and that anyone's moral worth is in direct inverse relation to their economic worth. They presume that without economic development created by capitalism the world would be a better place! If you think that is true, and that poverty can be eliminated by eliminating wealth, then you probably think that China and the former Soviet Union have eliminated poverty in their countries, and you will probably agree with the premises of this book. Otherwise, don't waste your time.

Actually it IS proven. Check the source........2005-08-05
When Truman discovered that Harry Dexter White was a Soviet Spy, he moved him to, guess where?, the International Monetary fund. Suspiciously, that's who is paying for this pamphlet. Lies like this only perpetuate myths that have gone on far too long. Hiss was guilty, the Rosenburgs were guilty, McCarthy was more right than wrong. Have these writer actually READ the transcripts that have flooded out of the Soviet files? Only a Stalinist could STILL believe that FDR wasn't running a branch office of the KGB out of the State Department!

Too basic.......2005-04-14
I gave a quick read of this. Not sure how to rate it. Motherhood and apple pie. Nothing earth shattering. Basics repeated. Prepare, dont loose cool, practise makes perfect. Now that's the secret sauce for a sucessful case interview according to the book.
Short and to the Point; Very Practical!.......2004-04-16
I came across WetFeet for the first time in MBA school -- they impressed me back then with their very practice and to the point approach! This book is no exception!
It is very short (100 pages) and well organized (Getting started; successful networking; the interview process; interviewing at your best; gettgin the best offer).
The book does not cover resume writing and cover letter writing, which I consider one of its strengths (so many other resources are available on the subject).
The real strength of the book is in it practical guidence to specific steps that can be taken in the interpersonal (netwroking, interviewing) aspects of a job search. Recommended read for all career activists!
Yes that's outdated!!.......2004-03-21
I am majorly disappointed with this book. I was really shopping around for Case In Point / Vault Guide to Case Interview, but since those books aren't carried by my local bookstore and I need that quickly, I end up choosing this as it has an electronic version. It's no good. FULL STOP. It's like a random summary of a MBA courses, Porter's five forces etc.. But I don't think this book is helping with dealing with case interview at all, rather it's confusing the candidate especially for those non-MBA students who didn't know about those infamous business framework. It's giving them a incomplete and useful illustrations. Disappointed...
Deconstructing the Case Interview.......2003-04-10
Definitely worth the money. I bought this one as well as Ace II (just heard there's now an Ace III), and used it to prepare for my consulting interviews. No matter what case got thrown at me, I kept my wits about me since i'd seen it all before while working through the WF guides. And now I'm going to work for one of my top picks in consulting. woohoo!
Very Helpful for Case Interviews.......2003-03-08
This guide provides some very useful case examples and takes some of the mystery out of case interviews! I would definitely recommend this!
Book Description
Consulting recruiters use the case interview as a primary means of evaluating interviewees. The sixth book in WetFeet'ss popular Ace Your Case guide provides 15 more case questions to help consulting hopefuls sharpen their case-cracking skills.

You MUST buy this guide!.......2003-03-04
After completing a series of interviews where I'm pretty sure I crashed and burned, I decided I needed some professional help. The overview drew me in immediately by describing a typical nerve-wracked interview candidate anticipating an interview "train wreck." That's me! I thought. This guide provided a thorough description of the case interview, from beginning to end, with a lot of examples. I feel much more prepared for my next round of interviews, now that I understand the process. Now I can go into my interviews as a raging bull, instead of a scared rabbit. I STRONGLY recommend this guide to everyone facing the dreaded case interview. Good luck!

Book Description
Seventy years after predecessor American Airways was fashioned from a hodgepodge of struggling, independent air-mail contractors, American Airlines enters the new century as one of the world's leading air carriers. With a modern fleet of distinctive "silverbirds" serving cities across the United States and overseas, American is a giant in every sense of the word -- in people, equipment and routes. It enters the 21st century bolstered by solid profitability, a far-ranging route network and a long-term agreement with Boeing to keep its fleet updated with the most advanced jetliners. American Eagle, a commuter affiliate grown into a huge airline in its own right, helps extend the company's reach. So do oneworld and other alliances that permit AA agents to ticket travelers to destinations around the planet. The story of American's evolution is told in a colorfully illustrated, large-format book with 440 rare photos, classic advertisements and memorabilia on nearly 300 pages. It celebrates the men and women -- pilots, mechanics, dispatchers, flight attendants, agents, ramp workers and managers -- who through the years have defied the odds to make AA not only a survivors, but a leader. As the book explains, today's success is a far cry from the outlook in the early 1930s. Assembled under the banner of an opportunistic holding company called the Aviation Corporation, American was handicapped by a duke's mixture of aircraft flying routes that never quite linked up. As losses soared faster than its underpowered flying machines, AA's very survival seemed in doubt. Happily, the company was blessed with visionary leaders and with dedicated employees who shared their dream of transforming the unwieldy organization into a proud giant. They could see beyond their slow, unreliable flying machines to an era when jetliners would span the oceans. Steadily, they built the company's reputation for safety and service until it became a model for the industry. Through the imagination, hard work and even heroism of its people, the company survived a Depression, wars, and the turmoil of industry deregulation that doomed many traditional airlines. Tempered by hard times and tough leaders, AA has emerged as one of the most successful, and most competitive, airlines in the world.

AAmazing.......2004-12-08
This was AAmazing! This was probably the best book I have ever read. It though had a lot of input from AA. I bought at the Smithosian for only $11.99 in Washington, DC. Two other books about AA is Exit Row by Tammy Kling, an Emergency Response Worker and 4 miracles on flight 965. Then A Spirit of Greatness: Stories from Employees of American Airlines.
overall, very nice book.......2004-02-21
Very detailed history of American Airlines.
Photo is all in color. Hardcover.
American Airways era to current American Airlines...
How AA successed, about fleets, Ads, About FA, what AA did...
every thing about AA is in this book!
sorry about my english.
Tim Kincaid.......2000-06-11
Silverbird is the definitive American Airlines history. Don Bedwell does an especially fine job explaining the nearly unexplainable -- AA's convoluted origins as a willy-nilly collection of early upstarts that formed to become American Airways, and then American Airlines. Don taps his unique background as long-time editor of Flagship News, as a seasoned major newspaper journalist, and an aviation enthusiast, to skillfully capture the history and spirit of a greAAt company. John Wegg did his usual masterful job in editing and producing this large book. Don't let the price stop you -- this one belongs on every airline buff's bookshelf.
American Airlines in words and pictures.......2000-05-02
'Silverbird-The American Airlines Story' arrived today. It's a comprehensive look at AA, covering the lifetime of the carrier although emphasizing the recent era. The book is organized more topically than strictly chronologically so that, for example, Chapter 13 'Selling the product' covers the history of marketing AA since the 1930s. There's some classic stuff here you'll want to check out. I'll just point out some hightlights and you can get the book to see the rest: There's a excellent shot of a737-800 on final to SJC on page 7. Wouldn't it be nice if the leaders at UA, TW, BA, JAL et al would see fit to follow AA's example and paint aircraft back into late 50s/early 1960s colors? Take a look at the ad spread on pages 94-95. That's the kind of neat advertising that you never see any more. The sad, sad tale of AA's headquarters relocation from 3rd Avenue to Cowtown is related in chapter 10. THis is kind of depressing, unless you're Hank ('Ah feel like I've died and gone to Noo Yawk') Hill. Two of my faveorite photos are in the sidebar about Bob Takis-the 707 and 990 flying in formation and the 990 dumping fuel in flight. You can never have enough color AA 990 photos in your book. Enough babbling on. If you want to see more, check out the book. Speaking of early 1960s, there's a shot of CR Smith posing with a model of a 727-100 in a never-used paint scheme.
Silverbird Takes Off.......2000-04-13
Silverbird presents a thorough historical chronicle of American Airlines through words and pictures. The book is full of fascinating personal stories, fun facts, and beautiful photos and illustrations. Current and former AA employees (like me), as well as airline enthusiasts, will enjoy this work from John Wegg and Don Bedwell.
