Reinert explains the current workings of the global economy. Explaining the basic precepts of international trade. Within the context of the postwar trade agreements. The rise of the newly industrialising countries of East Asia (Japan, South Korea and Taiwan) is keyed to the massive amounts of export-driven manufactured goods that those countries produced.
Related to this are ideas like the enabling of foreign direct investment, which can act as a capital supplier and a spur to future growth of a country that gets the investment.
The book also delves into economic theory and accounting frameworks needed to quantify international trade. Given the global scope of the book, currencies and exchange rates between those currencies are discussed. Hence the idea of purchasing power parity, as a different way to compare countries, instead of purely by exchange rates. The Big Mac index, introduced by the Economist magazine, is given as a vivid instantiator of PPP.

I was pleasantly surprised by the content and structure of this book. I have written business plans in the past, but I still found it immensly helpful to follow the guidelines in this book. I'd tell anyone with a business idea to use this book first, follow the workbook completely and once you have a great business plan, you can then take it to a corporate attorney to get advice on the best business entity to use. C-Corporation Small Business Start-Up Kit.......2003-07-10
This book contains all of the forms and instructions that are necessary to set-up a small business "chapter-C" or standard corporation in any state. The forms on the included CD-ROM make the task of preparing Articles of Incorporation, By-laws, minutes of meetings, etc. a very simple task. Despite what Mr. Hefner states in his review, the appendix of this book contains far more state-specific information about corporate law than merely the addresses of the state corporation departments. It details the specific state statute where incorporation information is contained. It describes the title of the state filing necessary, as well as the amount of any filing fees or other required fees. It also outlines the details of corporate name reservation rules and the fees for name reservations. The number of incorporators, the required language for corporate purpose requirements, the number and residency requirements for corporate directors, any state-specific paid-in capital requirements, any required publication requirements, and details of any other relevant state corporation regulations are all outlined in the very useful state by state appendix of this book. This detailed appendix makes it very easy to tailor the forms in the book and on the CD-ROM for use in any state.
Not Exactly..........2002-10-28
The sub-title of this book is "Everything necessary to set up a small business C-Corporation in all 50 states and Washington, D.C.". That's quite a hefty promise! The book is a good start, but hardly lives up to the claim.
At 286 pages, there is hardly room for a lot of coporate philosophy or specifics about starting a business. More than half of the book consists of forms that are found on the CD-ROM, or explanations of specific portions of those forms. I have to classify this as a bare-bones crash-course in how to start a C-Corporation, as most of it contains generic forms that may or may not be applicable to your specific situation.
The book includes a CD-ROM, which basically just includes MS Word and Adobe Acrobat versions of forms that are printed inside the book. No other software is included, other than the Acrobat Reader. It is impossible to navigate the files without the assistance of the Table of Contents in the book, as the documents are named in a numerical fashion, and no master list of documents exists on the CD-ROM itself. Basically, the CD-ROM will just save you from re-typing the forms contained in the book, although you will likely need to do a LOT of editing for your specific situation.
The book is a bit overpriced..., IMHO. The information and forms are simply way to general to rely upon to start your own corporation, and there is absolutely no state-specific information included, other than an appendix with the addresses of each state regulatory authority in the back of the book.
Basically, I would not advise anyone to use this book to start their own C-Corporation. However, it is a good resource for those who know zero about what is involved in forming a C-Corporation, or who want to use the CD-ROM to save them some time in typing. Compared to what most lawyers will charge, it's a bargain. However, if you rely solely upon this book as the basis of how (or why) to form your C-Corporation, you are simply headed for trouble. It's a decent, well-written little reference though, and for that alone I give it three stars.

I have been looking for a book that details step by step on forming an S Corp. It is light on the accounting end but otherwise I believe it is a good premier on the how to form an s corp. You will still want or need to consult other professionals and also the state and federal guidelines but it is a good read and reference!

Good souce for someone who is looking for starting a S-Corporation. However, this book will not provide any information if the corporation desires to have business other then your home state. Also, the CD that contains the forms are not named accuratly. Ther are numbered instead of having the form names. Some of the forms in the CD are missing. However, if someone is planning to open a business, this book will give to a vital information.

An excellent reference for anyone considering starting a business as an S-Corporation. This book contained all the necessary incorporation forms, as well as checklists that helped you complete the process. I found especially valuable the marketing plan worksheet, which helped determine whether the business idea was viable. The only downside of the manual was the sparse information given on state by state corporation laws. For instance, it would have been helpful to have the Internet addresses for each state's corporation department. The state that I reside in had state specific forms on it's Web page which could be downloaded for no fee.

With the hundreds of books I poured through at the library. This one is a hand holding, step by step guide that shows you how to talk, (relate your accomplishments as a story -people remember stories-have hooks to the stories). It helps you realize how to "sell yourself through accomplishments", and ways to show how you will benefit the organization (which is after all why they are hiring). It also gives indepth advice on attitude and personality, avoiding negative questions and salary negotiations. Complete and concrete advice. -An investment in your future.

As for a new graduate, I blew out my first several interviews. People keep telling me it's normal and that's how you learn the expereince. When asking their advice, they said you can't predict the question they're going to ask you, so just relax and try your best. Well...that's only half true and not help me too much to get the job. I am glad that I stopped lying to myself, finding excuses not to prepare interviews and bought this book. I bought five interview reference books and this is the best one among all. It helps you build up your confidence and really let you feel you're going to A's all the questions during the interview, which is true. It's the tool that helps you not only prepare the interview but also negotiate salary. (plus research organization) I followed all the steps and got the offer right away. (Amazing! too soon to believe) And also increased 3,000 more on my starting salary. (I know I can gain more according to the instruction in the book, but I am satisfied with the result since this is my first job.) This is the first time I write review for a book. To express the appreciation to the author, I do recommend all the job seeker, no matter you are new graduate or expereinced, to read this book. The book covers all aspects. Good luck!! Everyone gets nervous at the thought of interviewing, so why not lesson the pain and be as prepared as possible. In fact, after reading Interview Power, I felt MUCH more confident and relaxed. This book gives you insight on the interviewing process, what interviewers are thinking, tons of sample questions to be prepared for, and also coaches you through identifying and selling your strengths effectively.
After reading this book, my interviewing skills improved so much I've been offered every job I've since interviewed for. I am always recommending this book to my friends.

I have perused several books on this topic and found this one to be much more informative about how Texas laws are very unique in regards to avoiding probate. In fact, most other books don't even mention this. It seems that for every one of these avoidance techmiques, the TX laws are very different in very specific ways and if you don't have everything done according to the letter of the TX law, you could end up with big problems. For example, only in the state of TX do you have to sign a separate written agreement with just the right language and other specifics in order for right of survivorship to actually work in avoiding probate. Not many people are aware of this and even most of the bankiing institutions are unaware. Even the big banking institutions will tell you that their methods are valid and correct when, in fact, they are not. Several cases have gone to the TX Supreme Court because of this. Don't let it happen to you. It is a huge problem. This book educates you on every issue and how it has to be handled differently in different states.

Get the book, read it twice and avoid the time, expense and aggravation of a probate. Having gone through a probate, I can tell you that this is something you want to avoid.
Mary Randolph does an excellent jobs of giving you simple techniques that let you bypass most or all of the probate process.
Again, the book is worth the money.

I must say, if there is anything that I wanted or needed to know about Coca-Cola, I now know it!
I am studying organization communication and I had to pick an organizational memior in which to do a project on. I chose this book in part because I have always been a Coca-Cola fan, but mainly because my husband now works for the corporate giant and I thought a little personal interest may help to motivate me.
What an in-depth description of the birth and life of our favorite little red & white beverage! From Doc Pemberton and his addictions to the present when millions are now "addicted" to his special creation. This book not only describes how Coke itself was created, but it also goes into great detail about how the image of this soft drink was initiated, molded, and eventually perfected over the years. Frederick takes us through the ups, the downs, and the way downs of the beverage as well as the company. He also gives a clear depiction of what life must have been like in Atlanta in the late 1800's-early 1900's.
My favorite thing about the way that this book is written is the way in which the author tells us a story rather than spitting 500 pages of facts and figures at us. I'm quite sure that I wouldn't have been able to make it through the entire thing had he not grabbed my attention with the fascinating history within the first several chapters. I would most definately reccommend this book to anyone, and not just because I'm partial to the crisp, refreshing, wonderful, exhilerating beverage. :-) Seriously, if you are interested in corporate culture or business of any kind, a history buff, or perhaps you just like Coke, then this is a must read. Just make sure you allow yourself plenty of time to finish(the length is the only reason why it got 4 stars instead of 5 in my book)!

Good historical overview of Coca-Cola.......2000-07-18
Over the course of the past 100+ years, Coca-Cola has become the best known brand in the world. The story of Coke is one of America, as well as one of a great business that was built from the ground up. Secret Formula does an excellent job of taking the reader on a trip through the often-tumultuous history of the Coca-Cola Company.
While not initially apparent, I think the central theme of the story is captured nicely by the following quote from Lao-Tzu:
"To know yet to think that one does not know is best; Not to know yet to think that one knows will lead to difficulty."
The company lost touch with its customers and developed an arrogance that threatened to change the company forever.

Secret Formula is a book for the business-minded and Coca-Cola-philes alike; the prose may appear a bit dry to the leisure reader (500 pages at semi-miniscule print in softcover), but bear in mind that Secret Formula is pretty heavy reading. However, once you start reading about the first days of Doc Pemberton and his special syrup and soda headache remedy you will be hooked to this fascinating tale of Americana, right through to the late 70s cola wars with Pepsi and the infamous "New Coke" debacle, from which Coca-Cola survived unscathed. Allen details also the benefits reaped by Atlanta thanks to former Coca-Cola president Robert Woodruff's many philanthropic acts, as well as how the popular soda helped blur racial lines in the South while trying to tackle less enthusiastic foreign markets. Anyone with a interest in Southern history or marketing will want to sample this Secret Formula.
I had the pleasure of meeting the author when I lived in Atlanta. He came off as a genuinely nice man.
Phosphoric Acid in a consumable drink?.......1999-09-14
I know these remarks are late in coming however I have a concern regarding the appearance of Phosphoric Acid in Coca-Cola about 1990-92.
I understand Phosphoric acid is of the inorganic non-digestible variety of acid. I've called to get the nutrituional information on the acid and I'm about to give up the Cola product because of it.
The Phosphoric acid may be the harsh metalic taste I get like biting on a spoon. I'd like to give it equal rating with Pepsi and RC which either have less or none of that particular acid and there is less of that taste or none in the other colas. If you guys can get the cafine out the Phosphoric acid should be a snap.
I'm interested in any information on the issue.
