Topics such as existence, continuation of solutions, uniqueness, dependence on initial data and parameters, linear systems, stability of linear systems, two dimensional phase analysis, local and global stability, the stability manifold, stability of optimal control and empirical tests for chaotic dynamics are covered and their use in economic theory is illustrated in numerous applications. These applications include microeconomic dynamics, investment theory, macroeconomic policies, capital theory, business cycles, financial economics and many others.

All chapters conclude with two sections on miscellaneous applications and exercises and further remarks and references. In total the reader will find a valuable guide to over 500 selected references that use differential equations, stability analysis and chaotic dynamics. Public Policy at its finest.......2006-12-20

There are several good books in this series on public policy but this is among my favorites. It reminds public policy makers that they are spending other people's money and encourages baking reform from our regulatory statues. It is a condemnation of congress at points for over spending and really delves into how our banking system has emerged. I highly recommend this book for those interested in bank regulation, public policy or economics. Very well written and really will make you think about the issues.

"If you don't have time to read, you don't have time to invest." Give me a break! I am constantly amazed that these so-called "independent investment advisors" think that the average investor can reach financial independence and multigenerational wealth without the aid of a well-trained, compassionate and skillful financial advisor. The average parents today are so busy with careers, businesses and family there are probably 3 or 4 seconds left at the end of the day to do any reading for pleasure, let alone financial reading. In Ms. Fisher's world, most of the baby boomers of today would never make it financially since they should not invest because they don't have time to read. Take care of your clients and don't give us any more advice.

This is a nice summary of yet another 10 secrets of Bill Gates' success. I did find out something new for myself. However, the book itself is awfully repetitive. It seems like the chapters were written in dissonance as you read the same words over again like a constant deja vu which is somewhat annoying. Overall, not a bad book!

If you're looking for an easy to read summary of how Bill Gates went from college drop-out to the $50 billion man, here it is. "Business the Bill Gates Way," is a quick and sanitary overview of what happens when an irresistible combination of passion, luck, determiation, and brains meet an unbelievable opportunity. Bill Gates as nerd, seer, opportunist, organizational genius, and workaholic all tied-up in a nice, little, pink bow. Des Dearlove appears to written this book after only having read a half dozen other books on Bill Gates and Microsoft. You get the sense he never left his office, much less England, to research the subject. This is a formula book, heavy on format and light substance. Ten 16 page chapters, with a summary of the main points at the end of each. The series is obviously successful, and we can expect more of the same, but it reads more like the Cliff Notes than the real book. In fact, you could just read the summaries, memorize the main points, and move on to your algebra homework.

I read this book on the recommendation of a friend, Paul Dunn. Paul had already set me up to become a value pricing (VP) fan as that what he lives and breathes, and so I was already in a positive frame of mind to read the book. Well, the book blew my mind! It delivered on all of my expectations and then some. If you are serious about making a difference in your business, then you absolutely have to read this book.

This book is not just for accountants and lawyers. It is for any service organisation that has a pricing policy. The science behind VP and how to value your services is incredible. And when you've read it, you'll see just how much common sense there is in VP.

We are now working on introducing VP into our firm and while it's not going to be all beer and skittles as we go through the process, what we can see as possible on the other side of VP, we know will make it all worthwhile.

The author Ron Baker get the point across well, that pricing by the hour is old fashioned to say the least and creates harm between you and the customer. He also shows clearly why value pricing is ethical and how to make the most of your marketing preactices. I would highly suggest this book. It is worth way more than the price!

Ron Baker's goal, as he so aptly describes it, is "to trash time sheets forever". Keeping track of time is the biggest waste of time ever perpetrated on professionals. Accountants have become slaves to the concept of "the almighty hour". We are not selling hours but intellectual capital.
Ron takes you through every step necessary to start your trip to successful value pricing. You will learn exactly how to present this to your existing clients. You will also learn how to use a change order when there turns out to be hidden surprises that no one anticipated. He will explain the concept of service guarantees as an excellent way of gaining new clients and show you in detail how to draft service agreements to use. Wish I had read this book 20 years ago.......2001-08-31

I bought this book on a trial basis, due to its cost. It came on a Friday, and I scanned it that night. I wrote the check next morning.
This book changed my attitude about my profession. I was ready to quit. Burned out, tired, frustrated, and angry.
Within one month, I had identified 5 major clients and had more than doubled the revenue from those clients. My staff is happier because they feel they are being treated as professionals and generating fees more in line with their abilities. We have "dismissed" several non-productive clients, and haven't missed the revenue. We work fewer hours at more enjoyable work and actually make more profits. It has positively affected my home life as well.

Finally a Speech Book for Geeks !.......2000-12-01

There is no passion to write an excellent book here. It might be a good book for geeks. Perhaps Chapter 4 (Engaging Audience) is the reason that I am left with this feeling. That chapter is particularly shallow. Or may be because the author Jefff Slutsky uses the powerful phrase "street fighter" so banally. The book is often very superficial in its advise. Just one example at bottom of page 30. "Humor should be funny." The title of this books touts three objectives. Overcoming fear is one of them. It never gets around to fear in any meaningful way. It is an easy book to read but partly because it does not get intense about any subject. This is a good book if you are going to be talking to very conventional run of the mill crowds where you can be contrived and shallow because you are not going to develop into a great speaker. If you address high powered people this is not the book for you. Co-author Michael Aun won the Toastmasters International championship in 1978. I have listened to this speech several times and it is greatness. Just to be a finalist is a glory--ardently admired. To win is beyond my ability to extol sufficient respect. Their are many good points to this book but they are found in quiet little places and if you have read a number of books on speaking this book can be read to advantage.

This book seems to be more directed at those who wish to promote themselves through public speaking. For the rest of us who just want some good, straightforward information on how to become better at speaking in front of a large group, it falls short.
