The initial enthusiasm which greeted the experiments in financial reform of the 1970s and 1980s has been replaced in some countries by skepticism and disillusionment about the effectiveness of such reform. This book analyzes a set of Asian and Latin American countries' experiences to determine the anatomy of success and failure of financial reform policies. It characterizes the post-reform behavior of developing countries' financial markets and argues that knowledge of these characteristics facilitates appropriate responses of policy makers and financial managers and improves the chance of success of financial reform policies. Policy makers in developing countries have often expressed an interest in establishing stock exchanges and forward exchange markets, and in implementing regulations for the safety and soundness of their financial institutions. The book therefore addresses the establishment of a stock exchange and a forward exchange market and the implementation of appropriate regulations for financial institutions in developing countries.

Not .NET, but not bad........2002-07-12

I agree with a previous review here - this book doesn't have much .NET in it. I think the ".NET" comes from the .NET server products like Commerce Server, not the .NET application framework. Blame Microsoft for using the same name everywhere, I guess. But this book seems to be written from the author's experience in putting together e-commerce sites using Microsoft's technologies. The back cover didn't promise any .NET developer stuff anyway so I wasn't expecting it I guess. But I found the coverage of Web site design to be helpful and it got us to thinking about some of the designs we'd initially come up with and we made some good changes. So it was helpful in the end. I do wish there were more examples of how to implement stuff like personalization, which I still don't really understand. The book is more high-level and design-stuff than dig-in stuff.

Where's the ".Net".......2001-10-30

I found the title of this book to be very misleading. First and foremost, this book has nothing to do with the ".Net" platform. At best this book reviews some Microsoft technologies that can be used when creating an e-commerce site (namely, Commerce Server), but misses the whole point of the ".Net" platform (i.e. web services and the like). Additionally, I found the author to be very self-aggrandizing - "I found that..." or "When I do do this I ..." or "I will define ...". This becomes overbearing by chapter 2 - the entire first 300+ pages are about the esoteric nuance of web design - in his opinion. This book is weak in examples and techniques - it is not a ".Net Bible" by any stretch of the immagination.

Pulls it all together and doesn't pull punches.......2001-10-27

The author has obviously done the e-commerce thing the hard way and shares plenty of advice to keep you from screwing it up. I like the outright way the author points our weaknesses in Microsoft's products and shows you how to work around them. This is not a product manual - it's a guide for using a half dozen products all together in an e-commerce site. I work at a .com that uses Microsoft products and I wish we'd reas this before we started... we're going back and fixing things now.

Stage fright comes with the turf when you speak or perform in public, and I see actors struggling with it all the time in my acting classes. Eric Maisel has done a great service with "Fearless Presenting", the first book I have EVER read that addresses the subject of stage fright so methodically and fully. It is not only an enlightening book, but is empowering. I recommend it highly.

To anybody that have bad ideas about Amway, let me ask them:
Where is the money in other business or company? In bottom?
In Microsoft, Wal-Mart, Sears, Subway or whatever the bottom received all the money? Uuhhmmm, I think no.So maybe Bill Gates is a Diamond, Steve Job too and CEO of major companies they are
I want to remember that people, that Amway IS A BUSINESS. And as ALL business in the world, THE FIRST people in the business, the creator, the "father" received the major money. It isn't unfair? The Diamonds, in Amway, are the people that have more than five years in business, other more. And they had to work hard to reach that level. Diamonds = CEO of other companies, my friends. The difference is that if you work hard too in Amway, you can reach that level, I mean, you can be Diamond=CEO. In what other company you can do it?. If you are not a familiar of "big boss" you never reach that level. Maybe if you have a good title can.
At same time, and as ALL business in the world you can fail or you can have sucess. It depend on YOU. I know that is a hard kick to your ego, to recognize that YOU fail, so a safe way is to fault the company or business sytem. But my friends WAKE UP and assume your responsabilty, we are no a children now.Is to wise man to recognize we fault and take care of them and change.

Other point, "Is that when you are in Amway lost a ton of money in tapes, books, CD, etc,etc", let me tell you some "the knowledgement is expensive,yes, but how many cost the ignorance, or more soft, the no-knowledgement. If you decided to go Hihg School, you don't pay anything? If you decided to do business course, you don't pay anything?
Well my friends, if you want to KNOW the Amway business, you have to pay too. In business that is the investement part, don't you heard of that? By the way, in Amway that is OPTIONAL.
Like any other reviewer said don't loose time "looking for the five leg to cat", study the business, and if you don't like it or don't see any opportunity to change your life, or to addition money in your bank account legally (yes, it is a "cult" to make money, to life well, to freedom, don't you want that?)go away, and stay in your "prision 9 to 5 job", but let that people who want to "PRISION BREAK" escape from it

WAKE UP!.......2002-12-07

Smell the coffee! Your upline tells you to think and to "get information from the right sources", "don't listen to negative thinkers", however Brian Tracey even admits that you need to evaluate the negative AND the positive to make an informed decision. Deride me if you will but I spent 4 years listening to tapes, reading books, showing the plan then got fed up trying to "share the dream" with people while the true information on the Quixtar/Amway business became more and more readily available to anyone smart enough to use a search engine and the web. Do I believe everything I see on the net? No. But I am intelligent enough to see patterns in what other people reported and what I was seeing with my experience. Yes, the tools did help me be a better person and I appreciate the growth I got from them, but it was an expensive lesson. I did not want to make the majority of my income on tool sales in a business that claimed it would come from product movement. Current IBO's - don't waste your time diseeminating my post and picking apart my comments with your pre-programmed rhetoric and quips about whiners, losers and such. We all need to make decisions and live with the consequences of those actions. I have and hope that anyone evaluating this "opportunity" gets an objective perspective in order to make an informed decision. The "truth" is out there. Make sure you at least attempt to find it.

Amway The True Story.......2002-09-11

First of all the book and Amway does change a lot of peoples life, if we only refer to monetary value and we are refering to something that does not lasts, but if we are refering to friendship, lifestyle, time with family, spritual value and principles. Than being in Amway with the system is the best that one could offer.

As such to those who oppose Amway, I really would like them to think, although those people may be a millionaire (one person does say this), but anyway if you did follow the system fully then there should not be any issues as all in obtaining the time and money. Remember as the review say, there is no scarsity there is only abundance, and the person from Texas is refering as if the world resource is scarse.

Furthermore, if this person never been in Amway fully and never make a decision to build the business then, the person does not have any CREDIBILITY AT ALL to talk about Amway although all he could come out with lengthty statistics on this(by the way is he a millionare or a statistic professor : <).

Really the book does explain if we want to have the correct INFORMATION please see the CORRECT people. In this sense if we want to know about AMWAY, meet Rich De Vos, or any of the Crown Ambassador. Like wise you don't ask your friend about the condition of your tooth (you ask a dentist) or the condition of your brain (you ask a neurologist), so really I personnaly don't understand some STUPID people who keeps on asking the wrong people.

Lastly, the book talks about how there people start from a humble begining and went on to be somebody. For every succesful men there is an improvement and change, and these is what human is learning and improving. Start by being humble and learn the system, there is no room for ARROGANT people in this world. We have enough of those and we don't need them.

Please DO GET THE INFORMATION FROM THE CORRECT PEOPLE. Just remember this simple example : It is strange if a ask a stanger 100miles away from your house about your son's heart condition. IT DOES.
