Making European Merger Policy More Predictable analyses European Merger Control with regard to its capacity to generate predictability among the concerned parties. Starting from the premise that predictability is of overwhelming importance for the functioning of market economies, Voigt and Schmidt ask to what degree European Merger Control has been predictable over the last couple of years. The authors show both theoretically and empirically that there have been serious shortcomings with regard to the predictability of competition policy. They identify the insufficient recognition of the consequences of globalization on the competitive processes as well as an often inconsistent application of economic theory as the root causes for the lack of predictability. The inconsistent application of economic theory is particularly relevant with regard to potential competition and the evaluation of collective dominance. The authors generate a substantial number of proposals that could help to improve predictability. On this basis, Voigt and Schmidt critically assess the recent reforms of European Merger Control.

This book does a very good job at breaking down each section in easily understandable concepts. Diagrams are designed to be intuitive and instructional, and the various charts are helpful as well. Many high-level industry examples are provided throughout the book to highlight key points, whereas review questions and exercises will help readers confirm their comprehension. In summary, the book is great for students and people who wish to familiarize themselves with e-business, and can be used as training course material.

This book gives you some of the basics of starting an LLC in Florida but I would recommend "How to form a Limited Liability Company in Florida, 2nd edition, by Mark Warda" if you are trying to start a LLC.

I found the book to have about everything anyone needs pretaining to jobs, especially those who are looking around. It also simplifies lots of things that are difficult to determine, such as how to find certain types of companies, who to contact, how to write them and so on. I especially like the strategies, I bought the new edition too (for year 2000) which is even better.

The job descripitions in this book are not very thorough or indepth in their content. Many fields and specialities weren't even listed while obvious no-brainer job descripitions were described in full detail as if we're idiots. The Annual Earnings Survey is out dated, and the editors have overlooked the many mistakes made in this section of the book. Some of the earnings are off by a line (i.e. a Nurses aid makes $597,000 at the top of the field while on the next line it states an Obstetrician/Gynecologist makes $61,000 at the top of the field...Big Mistake on that one, and there are many others just like it) I hope readers don't use this survey as a guide for it is in need of serious editing. Why buy a book that doesn't even have correct information in it? I was disappointed to find that the bulk of the book listed nonsense information about only a very few U.S. employers for each state and did not cover a wide range of fields. Don't waste your time and money on Les Krantz's Job Finder's Guide 1999.

Got everything. I really don't need another book, though I have Krantz's "Jobs Rated Almanac" which also has some good attributes. I also use the Job Finder as a reference since it has so much about so many companies.

The BEST guide around for pointing the job finder in the right direction. I found it most helpful and recommended it to a number of friends.

I also have the previous edition (1999) which is basically the same, but this new one has better information about using the Internet for job searching. I like this portion ("Job Hunting in Cyberspace") of the book the best, which has 4 chapters. One of most valuable chapters is about negotiating the highest possible salary. The Book has one particularly valuable chapter about how to locate smaller company's, though there's about 3000 co's listed in the "U.S. Employer's" portion. One thing that's useful is all the cross referencing, which helps you navigate. For example, in the Employer's portion, it also steers you to industry profiles, so you can make sure you are job prospecting in healthy industries. Also the x-ref's steer you to professional orginizations for all the professions, which--as Krantz says-- are great ways to contact prospective employers. You'd almost have to buy 20 books to get so much information. On thing that was a little weak was about how to find jobs overseas. Krantz gives you strategies and lots of tips, but there are no foreign companies listed. Hopefully they'll have some in the next edition, but with over 650 pages of valuable info, I can't complain overall. It's the best book around if you're seriously looking for the best job in the U.S, though not abroad.

If you still believe that the US is the epitome of free trade, this book is for you. (If you don't, this could be for use as ammunition) This book chronicles the harm of protectionism (higher prices) and the many shams put on by the US government in the name of old fashioned protectionism. Whether it's farms, textiles or industrial goods, Bovard highlights the problems and perils of protectionism - by whatever name it goes by.

The only big issue is the book's date - 1992. A lot has happened since then in both free trade, and unfree trade. (It would be interesting to know Bovard's take on NAFTA and the recent steel tariffs) For even more politically tense works, you can read his more current bookes.

THE FAIR TRADE FRAUD.......2005-09-26

James Bovard is in my view the most objective, incisive investigative journalist on the planet (past or present). Like Freedom In Chains, Lost Rights, Feeling your Pain, Terrorism and Tyranny, The Bush Betrayal, and Shakedown(How the Govt screws you from A to Z), James is a master at identifying the criminal excesses of government operating outside the bounds of the Constitution sub calore juris, sub pretexto juris. James also provides enoough documentation to engender the hatred of the collectivist-socialist members of both houses of Congress and the collectivist-socialist media who would burn him at the stake for exposing them if it were possible for them to do so.
If readers want to view a long list of abuses and usurpations which identify "what the Government is doing to us", who is responsible and why, like Lemming we are all marching over the proverbial cliff followng the leader while ignoring the greatness we once almost achieved under an almost laissez faire Capitalist system, read all of James Bovards books. he is the best!

Alright, We Get the Point Already.......2003-11-25

The main thesis of this book is great and perfectly worth the effort that Bovard has made in exposing a real problem. However, you have surely never read a more repetitive book in your life. Here Bovard tackles the inefficiency and capriciousness of US "free trade" laws and the bizarre politics at the Commerce department. US trade officials make an art of penalizing foreign companies for behavior that US companies are subsidized to commit, and have attitudes toward imports that we pledge to go to war to prevent in other countries. All the rhetoric about "free" trade from politicians is swamped by protectionism in real life, with unfair and often ridiculous consequences. For example, politically motivated tariffs against imported steel, designed to save a few jobs in the American steel-production industry, have destroyed a far larger number of jobs in American steel-using industries.

Once again, the points here are excellent but the book isn't. First, Bovard is prone to blanket statements and polemics like "The U.S. International Trade Commission is a loose cannon on the shipdeck of the American economy." Worst of all, Bovard's main point of argument is the fact that there are thousands of extremely arbitrary and unfair trade sanctions in US trade relations. That's good to know, but Bovard apparently feels the need to explain just about every one of them in a ridiculously repetitive fashion. Bovard's main points could be made much more effectively in an in-depth magazine article, rather than a rambling 300+ page book that becomes a never-ending and mind-numbing list of numbers and regulations. Bovard apparently doesn't notice that he makes the same point several hundred times. [~doomsdayer520~]

Bovard does a great job exposing protectionist idiocy, and his writing style makes a somewhat dry subject interesting.

I bought the book because Bovard clearly wasn't one of the two-week Okura Experts. For those not familiar with the local jargon, Okura Experts are Washington, D.C. appointees who run our trade policy based on a two week stay at the Okura, a luxury hotel near the American Embassy in Tokyo.

Like me, Bovard has been in the trenches and seen trade issues in Japan face-to-face. If you are willing to discard your media managed notions about how Japan cheats and is unfair on trade and look at the whole picture, this book is well worth the read.

Bovard is neither an apologist nor a basher, but I'll guarantee that if you read this book, you will never look at trade issues in the same way again.
