      Book Description

The econometric consequences of nonstationary data have wide-ranging implications for empirical research in economics. Specifically, these issues have implications for the study of empirical relations such as a money demand function that links macroeconomic aggregates: real money balances, real income and a nominal interest rate. Traditional monetary theory predicts that these nonstationary series form a cointegrating relation and, accordingly, that the dynamics of a vector process comprising these variables generates distinct patterns. Recent econometric developments designed to cope with nonstationarities have changed the course of empirical research in the area, but many fundamental challenges, for example the issue of identification, remain. This book is an effort to determine the consequences that nonstationarity has for the study of aggregate money demand relations.
The object of this book is to utilize the tools of modern time series analysis to determine the role of an aggregate demand for real balances in the generation of macroeconomic time series. A significant distinguishing characteristic of this research is the identification and estimation of this demand function in a multivariate framework, in contrast to most existing studies that concentrate on a single equation framework.

          Book Description

Creating a usable e-commerce application is a daunting challenge. There is so much to do, from the initial concept, through to designing and coding the application. This leaves a lot of scope for things to go wrong.

In this book we take all the hassle out of online shopping applications, by showing you how to plan your application, design the user interface and data store, and code the entire thing.

          Customer Reviews:

          4 out of 5 stars a full treatment of an e-commerce application.......2005-01-02

The authors set forth an ambitious goal. In one book, they try to show you how to design and code a full e-commerce application. From laying out the user interface and connecting its interactions with a server running a relational database. For the latter, they spend some time with an extended example that involves constructing a set of interrelated tables, with primary and foreign keys.

Those of you already familiar with RDB and the various normal forms will be very comfortable here. For the actual database, they illustrate with Microsoft SQL and the free MySQL. The code to connect is given in fair detail. Quite aside from anything else, the differences and similarities between these databases can be very useful. You can see the pros and cons of going with either. Heck, if you are searching for a book that compares these 2 common and important databases, this book is a good choice.

The book is a little curious in one way. The authors are clearly skilled, but they don't seem to use the formal Model-View-Controller (MVC) approach. Though you might see that the various pieces and interconnections they give can amount to this. Nor do they explicitly use the idea of an n-tier architecture. Perhaps they chose to omit these ideas to simplify the narrative. Since if you successfully use their ideas to build your application, the MVC and n-tier ideas can then have far more substance to you, when you later encounter them.

5 out of 5 stars Practical oriented and well-focused.......2003-01-20

Once again glasshaus delivered a practical oriented and well-focused book. The authors don't waste time, straight to the meat; the book is actually full of well-explained code listings. The sample applications use ASP/SQL server and PHP/MySQL, but a lot of material is still relevant for other technologies, especially the coverage of database design, but also usability, interfaces and workflow
BTW The book is actually 300+ pages long

5 out of 5 stars If you have an interview buy this book.......2005-07-31

If you have an interview or are looking to get into the industry, buy this book. Great info on the the F2F questions and good information all around. While I do believe there are some things in this book that should be intuitive, many college grads and younger people I talk to that want to get into the industry don't know half of them. Five years ago I purchased this book to assist me and it was some of the best money I ever spent.

5 out of 5 stars Straight forward and honest.......2003-10-22

I found this book very helpful! I am a recent college grad and the creative networking techniques helped me to get several interviews in pharmaceutical sales. And to the reviewer from Colorado - get over yourself! There are several people that do make simple mistakes in the interview process and this book just points them out to help everyone. For someone like me with no experience in the industry, I found this book to be incredibly helpful and covered all of the bases. I have recommended it to several friends looking for jobs.

1 out of 5 stars Insulting and Worthless.......2003-09-08

A pharmaceutical representative recommended this book to me as I'm pursuing a job in this industry. The author indicates that she worked first as a representative and later as a recruiter. Her writing maintains the condescending attitude so prevalant among the people that work for these companies. Ms. Kerzic actually suggests that I should buy a good pair of shoes and a nice suit to interview in. Is she kidding? In my industry you either wear the best suit and shoes that you can afford or you'll quickly be out of a job. Does she honestly believe a reader would show up wearing shorts and a tanktop? Other useful tidbits include phrases like, "don't waste my time". Sorry Ms. Kerzic, but if I decide to show up for an interview, apply for a job, or send you a resume', it is OUR time. Mine is just as important as yours. She throws in a few hints on resume' building, but I've found much better formats that have resulted in interviews by consulting my local library. On the other hand, I will utilize some of her advice in writing my review of her book. If you're considering buying this book, don't waste your time OR your money!

1 out of 5 stars Nothing really new........2003-06-29

I bought this book in hopes to getting real inside information. All of this information could easily be obtained at any library. Also, there was really not a lot of actual information in the book. The font was so large, that it could have been written in about 35 pages. The rest of the book had addresses to pharmaceutical companies. What a rip off.

To top it all off she tries to sell you more literature and services she should have included in this book.

            1 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money.......2003-04-24

The information contained in this book can be found in any job search book- her claim to "insiders knowledge" is basic and could be devined from anyone in the industry.

              Book Description

Introduction to Online Market and Industry Research provides workable search strategies and valuable data source information to both inexperienced and experienced industry researchers. Market research strategies offer business managers a precise picture of the environment in which they operate and thus supporting informed decision making. Critical data source reviews lead to cost-effective purchase decisions for research managers. Like all the titles in the Business Research Series, this book is conveniently divided into four sections containing a number of business research applications that can be used for both in-house research training and reference. Internet research can be quick, easy, and abundant - but also challenging. Research sites sometimes come and go, and sources can be questionable. The Business Research Solutions Series provides comprehensive business and financial research reference guides and online training manuals to bridge a major gap in the field of online research methodology. This resourceful and innovative multi-series of reference guides teaches readers how to approach a research problem, how to select the best online sources, and how to effectively use these sources. It also suggests alternate low-cost solutions for many standard questions and problems. A must-have for professionals involved in business research, these invaluable tools provide step-by-step advice on how to analyze, interpret, and present data for informed decision-making.

              3 out of 5 stars Technically abundant.......2006-12-23

Good research book or text for a course of the same subject matter. I learned a few tricks of the trade, and have made use of the material in the book.

Glad I read it. Its a welcome addition to my reference shelf.

The down side is that this material will be dated, as it relates to online resources. Time marches on, and technology will eventually make this book obsolete

                  4 out of 5 stars Interesting views.......2006-12-15

This is mostly about common sense, but it does provide some clever insight into today's multinationals and it's worth for anyone interested in how our different cultures can work together in one organization, and perform at their best. The authors start from an interesting premise, that is "you can never completely understand a culture that is not yours / or that you haven't been living in".

                  3 out of 5 stars A Solid Read!.......2004-04-30

Some of the challenges of managing global teams are obvious. For example, team members will probably speak different languages and come from different cultures. So how do you function in the Tower of Babel? Authors Michael J. Marquardt and Lisa Horvath recommend designating a common language, usually English for American companies. On the other hand, some of the challenges global team managers confront are not so obvious. For instance, what reward system do you use when everyone values different things? Can you just give everyone a pat on the back and a bonus, or must you individualize feedback mechanisms? What etiquette do you follow if everyone has a different sense of what is polite? If these issues haven't occurred to you already, you need this book. If they have, well, We still suggests this rundown on the very basics. As you may have guessed, all the issues you have already confronted with international employees get magnified with global teams.

5 out of 5 stars First book to show the real power of global teams!.......2001-11-10

Presents the key challenges facing global teams with specific recommendations and case studies on how to overcome those challenges.

4 out of 5 stars Wonderful Treatment of What's Known.......2001-10-16

Marquardt and Horvath have done a very competent job bringing together good practices for people and organizations working in different places and cultures. Examples from Pfizer and other global corporations make the clear, simply written prose real to the reader, whether a newcomer to this interesting and pertinent field or someone who, like me, has seen a lot of the literature and done a lot of this work already. For my taste, I would have preferred to see more about technology, but the coverage was good and comprehensive enough to whet the appetite or confirm in business language what the practitioner would need to say to a business leader or a manager who was having trouble or starting out. The layout of the book is pleasant. What did worry me about the work, which I still rate highly, is suspicion that the research and scholarship were not up to a high standard, e.g., the consistently incorrect citation of the 1994 classic in the field "Globalwork" by Mary O'Hara-Devereaux and Robert Johansen, from which many of the authors' points are drawn, and an index that was generally wrong in its pagination.
