This book was a fun, easy read. The author gives you a basic history about gold, the changing political and monetary climate concerning it, how gold was viewed before by people and governments around the world as compared to now, why you should view gold not just as an investment but, more importantly, as a kind of insurance policy. I've read it twice now, and more of it sank in the second time around so that it makes more sense to me now.

Michael has written an excellent book for people who want to understand gold, its importance as an investment vehicle and how to invest. The book does a good job at convincing you so dont get carried away and start buying gold. Like any other investment gold has its pros and cons. Do more research and reading before you spend your hard earned money. Look at some websites like kitco and gold-eagle.

Excellent reference book.......2007-09-09

It took a long time for decent BizTalk Server books to start appearing, and those of us who have been committed to the product for some time know the pain (and fun) of having to work out, for ourselves, how this product works, how best to apply it to real-life scenarios and how to exploit its rich functionality.

I was really impressed with this book. It has two characteristics which I think are particularly noteworthy. The first is that it offers a huge breadth of coverage, but also manages to combine this with reasonable depth. This is hard to achieve when writing about BizTalk Server because it is such a rich an extensive product. The second characteristic is that it reads like a book written by practitioners - people with real-life experience of using the product, and the scars to prove it. Indeed, that it very much the case, and it means that the book provides far more than just rehashed information. It provides guidance, advice and best practice which is rooted in reality.

I like to think I know a thing or two about BizTalk Server (though it still manages to spring surprises on me quite regularly). I am not greatly addicted to computer books, because so many fail to be of any very practical use. However, I can report that this is the first BizTalk book (and one of very few books, generally) that I've carried with me into engagements to use as a reference. Warmly commended and highly recommended, especially for those who have done enough with BizTalk Server to realise the extent of the mountain they must climb.

Great for Intermediates and Beyond.......2007-07-13

I've been on a couple of BizTalk projects, all of them for Fortune 50 clients. We did a lot of things wrong, hence a lot of lessons learned. This book is good...REALLY good. How good? Well, let's just say that I never, repeat NEVER write book reviews, even if a book was the greatest thing since the bread slicer. (I guess because I'm too busy building Orchestrations and Custom Pipeline Components.) That alone should convince you that this book is a must-have for anyone wanting to know anything about BizTalk.

DISCLAIMER: Allow me to contradict that last statement... This isn't for everyone, however. It is really in-depth and explains more than the minimum required. The book also targets those of use that continue to ask the question "Why?" and it quenches our curious thirst. If I were to pick this book up when I was first learning BizTalk, I would throw it down and stomp on it. But now that I've been around the block a few times and I know the difference between a best practice and a "you're on your own" practice, I am able to get a lot from reading this material.

With BizTalk, there's so many ways to skin the proverbial cat. This books explains all of them (from what I've read), but then it points out the preferred approaches that one should take when implementing an integration solution via BizTalk Server...lots of Notes & Caveats sections, things that I crave.

This book will give you very objective insights into BizTalk. And you don't need to worry about reading it with your rose-colored glasses, either. It's neither half-empty nor half-full, it just is, you know?

Absolute must have book.......2007-06-06

This book has information in it that you simply will not find anywhere else. Its written by people who have worked with the product on some of the largest and most important projects where BizTalk has been the platform of choice, and the knowledge that thay pass on is exceptional.

I have been working with BizTalk Server through versions 2002, 2004 & 2006 and have at times struggled with getting information related to the enterprise application of the product; this book finally meets all those needs. It is for anyone who is or wants to work with BizTalk Server and covers everything you need to know about the serious application of BizTalk in critical systems.

From the information about the authors they have a extensive knowledge of "real world" enterprise applications of the product and this shows in the content of the chapters. The book is well structured and laid out; covering things including performance testing, unit testing, administration, low latency, best practices and goes well beyond the basic BizTalk development. I have most of the BizTalk books out there, this is the one I will turn to first!

A must have, the only regret that I have is that it wasn't published a year or two ago!

The BizTalk(tm) Framework is an XML framework for application integration and electronic commerce. Microsoft's BizTalk Server 2000 runs on Windows 2000 Server and is capable of integrating with delimited and positional flat file formats, EDI documents, and XML. It allows you to perform the three tasks critical in enterprise application integration: design the flow of information through a system, use BizTalk and its interfaces as the glue to perform the actual integration, then track the flow of information through the resulting system. It does this by providing the integration code in a central server, removing the need for writing integration code into programs, and does much of this by configuration of the server, reducing the amount of time you need to spend programming the integration code.

This book teaches you how to use BizTalk Server as an Enterprise Application Integration tool, to integrate applications into co-operating systems. It is especially suited to rapid deployment B2B and B2C e-commerce applications, where you need to integrate with legacy applications.

Still Worthwhile.......2004-08-06

I realize a newer version of BizTalk is available and that the underlying technology has changed significantly (most notably the change in orchestration languages). However, I suspect there are many of you still out there who, like myself, must continue to work with older BizTalk implementations.

For those of you, I would like to recommend this book. It is not a masterpiece in writing or style, but it provides you with loads of useful information and tips that goes well beyond the Microsoft BTS product documentation. Its examples aren't the easiest to follow, but if you take the time to actually install them on your server, they turn out to be very helpful.

You won't find much more good documentation on older BizTalk versions anymore, so definitely get this book if it is still of use to you. It's a heck of a lot cheaper than hiring MCS consultants!

Very frustrating book to read.......2002-10-11

I started witht his book witha lot of interest. But reading this was really a frustrating thing. It certainly failed in putting pieces together. There is more unnecessary talk in this book than useful content. If you are serious about learning BizTalk, This is not the book for you. Go somewhere else.

A touch too descriptive.......2002-05-31

The book gives a good introduction to BizTalk and the technology involved. But it is a bit too descriptive and not suited for people like me who would want to get our hands dirty by coding. The book also does not deal much with C# and how to use C# to customize the mapper, etc.

I read this book as soon as it was published. Didn't cross my mind to review it until I read the other reviews.

Let's face it -- there isn't a lot of material available on this topic. At least one of the co-authors is from MS. In order to get anything out of this book after chapter 5, though, you must take the time to work through their examples (which can be tedious and wordy) and do the exercises (which have mistakes and skip steps). You also must accept that BizTalk is a big product that you have to work with a long time to get the big picture -- and then once you get the big picture, you have to work out the little details. That's what this book does.

If you are looking for a simple how-to guide, or a quick read, run away. If you are looking for a book that will guide you through a path of BizTalk self-discovery AND you are willing to put out a rather hefty effort, this book will reward you in the end.

Somewhat useful but frustrating.......2001-11-15

This book has lots of useful technical information and the authors know their subject well. The book however, isn't well suited for those of us who like learning by hands-on examples and/or appreciate the quick start approach. Though Biztalk is a messaging product, I'm on chapter 5, page 256, and the authors haven't yet used an example that has sent a single message. So far the book is based on one main example that attemps to cover too many points. Unfortunately the example has typos and doesn't compile - even using the downloaded code. It would be much more effective to start with a couple of "Hello World" like examples to quickly illustrate the product functionality.

A Lovely book.......2005-03-31

Physically, this is a beautiful book, with a deep green luxurious leather cover. Just holding it makes you feel prosperous. It has attactive ink drawings with snippets of scriputre throughout.

Although the author has a few new twists on the familiar law of attraction outline, there is not alot of new material. The book however is fun to use and play with. I wish there were further elaboration on some of the exercises as opposed to plugs for other products. All in all, it is a worthwhile primer for students of prosperity.

Carole has distilled the essential ingredients of how to create
prosperity in your life - better than virtually any other author I've read - and I've read dozens of prosperity books. Horrible - should not be in print........2006-01-17

It is difficult to find books on the ski industry and this book claims to try to fill that void. In my opinion, the void is better off empty. MAYBE (I doubt it, but maybe) this book was mildly useful when it came out 6 years ago, but it seems to me that the info in here was already noticably out of date by that time (it was first published in 2000). Do NOT buy this book. Whatever small bits of insight it has are totally unreliable at this point (for example - it points to the now infamously failing American Skiing Company as a model of success). It is barely worth the paper its written on, let alone $40. I should have followed my instincts about the picture on the cover and avoided this book.
