    Book Description

This book - perhaps the only of its kind - gives a comprehensive account of Dynamical Systems in a plain non-technical language which is as rigorous as it can be made at this introductory level. Starting from the first steps of differential equations, on the assumption that readers only have a modest mathematical background, it quickly takes them to nonlinear dynamical systems, linearization theory, limit cycles, Gradient, Lagrangean and Hamiltonian dynamical systems. Apart from a new chapter on Floquet theory, Centre Manifold theorems and Liapunov-Schmidt reduction, this second edition also includes new materials, additional examples, illustrations and applications: almost every chapter has been re-written and enlarged to keep up with rapid advances in this field.

      Book Description

The dramatic evolution of financial markets in the 1980s and 1990s, accompanied by increasing institutional integration between nations (most notably in the EU), has fostered a widespread belief that governments - particularly those of small economies - have essentially lost the power to pursue sovereign, independent economic policies. At the same time, it is widely assumed that the loss of monetary-policy control is a major opportunity cost for a country adopting a rigid exchange-rate regime or, in the European context, for countries joining the EMU.

This book sheds light on these arguments by examining the relationship between the international integration of domestic money markets and the degree of monetary-policy independence in eleven small, open economies in Europe. The authors address these important issues in the context of a broad-based historical analysis of market formation and growth, exchange-rate policies and deregulation. They find that political motives, in conjunction with competitive forces, path dependence and institutional factors, are a major determinant of market development. Moreover, they reveal that credible commitment to a stability goal is a far more reliable predictor of monetary-policy autonomy than the adoption of a specific exchange-rate regime.

This accessible investigation of the relationship between domestic money-market development, international financial integration and the monetary-policy options available to small, open economies will be welcomed by students and researchers of macroeconomics, financial economics and political economy. The extensive empirical research and original conclusions will also be of interest and benefit to corporate bankers, policymakers and regulators.

Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is an enabling technology that allows business to communicate on a computer to computer basis using pre-defined standards. This book is written to explain this technology to those who nmeed to have a practical foundation in understanding and using EDI. EDI enables companies to compete more effectively by allowing them to be more innovative while reducing costs, and improving customer service. 1 out of 5 stars Woefully out of date.......2006-10-06

I ordered this book after having used the same series to form an LLC in Pennsylvania. Having moved to Colorado I thought I'd try again. This book is incredibly out of date. First of all, the phone number you call to get a copy of the forms on disk doesn't work. The website has changed too. And the info in the book is out of date. They don't even give you the website of the secretary of state to file your forms for $25. He tells you to mail them in with a $50 check. In fact, the paper filing fee is now $125. Makes me wonder what else in the book is not accurate.
            Don't waste your money.

ASIN:0553371312 Getting Past No. This is an easy to read book for those who wish to understand more than the 'Win-Win, Win-Lose, etc, type of negotiation. It gives great background when one is trying to iniate a student into the area of negotation. I was able to give short, clear explanations to my daughter, who periodially wanted to know what book I was reading. If negotiation is taught in schools, this one should be a text book.
]]Getting to Yes Is definitely the partner to Getting Past No.

5 out of 5 stars Great book to introduce negotiatation to beginners.......2007-09-25

Getting Past No is the follow up book to Getting To Yes from William Ury. The book provides a simple negotiating method that is easy to understand and follow. Simply put, Ury's method is to

            1) "Go to the balcony" - basically remove emotion from the negotiating process to ensure you can look objectively at the issue.

2)"Step to their side" - dig deeper into why the other side is saying no and brainstorm solutions to solve the underlying issue.

3)"Reframe" - instead of making the negotiation an "us vs. them" scenario, make it a "we" situation where you're trying to solve the problem together.

4)"Build them a golden bridge" - in a nutshell, let the other side save face.

5)"Use power to educate" - once you've gotten this far do bully you're way to close the deal. Instead, answer the other sides questions and help them build consensus with their stakeholders by educating them how the deal is good for them.

Overall, this is a very quick read and is not intended to be an all encompassing book on negotiating. It is great for beginners to learn this type of negotiating and it is highly effective for all types of situations. It is a must have in your business library!

4 out of 5 stars Got to Yes.......2007-09-07

This is the sequel to "Getting to Yes" by Ury. I liked the first book better. This one tackles the issue of what you can do when the other party really does not want to cooperate, while "Getting to Yes" assumes a greater willingness to collaborate. The book is okay, just not great. If you trying to get a basic education on negotiation, reading both books would be a good start.

I found this book helpful because it is concise, skill based (that is I gained skills, not just theory) and provides real world examples. Not as deep or scientific as Crucial Confrontations, but a perfect sized resource that I will refer to over and over.

My profile: 42 yo, sales engineer.

I find this audiobook a constant refernce in my travel pack. As a sales engineer on the road I keep resorting to the techniques of this book to find the break-through awakening in the negotiation process.

This approach is not ivory-towered inspirired, its based on very concrete situations and it calls for leaderhip qualities that are assumed by default since you are your own worst enemy.

I find this audiobook more complete than getting to yes and a complement to it. negotiation is not a subject just to be left to one tool or aproach, I encourage anyone inetrested in the theme to spice-it-up with other tip observing book such as Herb Cohen's.

Be prepared to study and use a powerful technique.

                            5 out of 5 stars Powerful book.......2002-11-06

Being in my mid thirties, I've gone through the process of changing both jobs and careers a number of times. Of all the books I've found to help me threw this process none has been more helpful then "Change Your Job, Change Your Life."

                            This book provides three benifits:

                            1. An overall job market overview - this helps the reader to understand what's happening from a macro perspective. This is helpful because it allows the reader to see that he is not alone or even close. It provides a strong base education on what's happening in the job market and why (including history of job markets).

                            2. A writing style that is empowering. This book can help one feel EXCITED about the job hunt, not overwealmed by it. It offers practical inspiration through education.

                            3. Specific detailed day to day tools to keep the reader on track. Tools are provided that keep focus and clarity so one can do what matters each day to get where they want to go with their career.

I've read many other books such as "What Color is Your Parachute, but always come back to this book in the end.

The only negative is the title, it doesn't reflect the depth or importance of the information.

It is hard to write about a company with roots 90 years in the past and not have it be a Legend. The Evinrude and Johnson Families were pioneers in an era when people with autos were a minority. People today who can't imagine life with out television, think an outboard motor has always been on the back of a fishing boat. Jeffery Rondengen takes you from these early days with the people who helped define summer recreation for many around the world, to the dependable, quiet, easy to use outboard of today. I was fascinated to see how the motors evolved, though at times it was like looking at an advertising brochure. It was obvious OMC was involved in the production, but what would you expect of a book about there company. I found it to be an easy read and profusely illistrated, But I found a few cases of confusion with what motors were being written about. A section about a three cylinder outboard was illistrated by a V-6, In the Outboards at War section, the 50 HP Army Storm Boat Motor was illistrated by a nine point seven, and a twenty two horse power outboard.

These minor errors aside, I enjoyed the book because it brought back memories of summer fun I had with several of the models mentioned. The pictures are great, it may help some find out just how old there Johnson, Elto, or Evinrude really is.

Rodengen's facts are accurate and interesting, but I find the style of connected magazine articles to give too much redundancy. Background that was necessary for each magazine article is included over and over again in this book. The same point could be delivered with a book 60% to 70% the size. A lot of interesting information especially if you know little or nothing on this subject.
