The European System of Central Banks: An Autonomous Actor?: The Quest for an Institutional Balance in EMU (Europainstitut Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien Schriftenreihe ... Wien Publication Series)
Barbara Dutzler Manufacturer: Springer ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback ASIN: 3211838619 |
Book Description
With the communitarisation of monetary policy and the establishment of a European Central Bank (ECB), the idea of insulating a central bank from the political process was realised to a degree yet undreamed of. The result, the asymmetric construction of Economic and Monetary Union (EMU), makes it difficult to democratically legitimise the exercise of power by the autonomous actor ECB. In this regard, EMU can be conceived as parable for the respective difficulties of the European Union. As a still rare example for a combination of juridical and economic point of view, this volume makes this challenge subject of discussion. By means of comparison with the American central banking system, the book probes the ECB's institutional design, attempts to define the ECB's status in EMU, and looks for ways towards a more democratically legitimated economic and monetary policy.

E-Business is NOT easy, but it CAN be made simple........2001-01-28
In order to really understand and effectively manage anything, such as an electronic business, you must have a 'unified' model that everyone understands and is able to manage respectively. In other words, the business itself needs to be viewable in 'context' so that you can gauge where you stand at any given time and make smart management decisions accordingly. In this fast paced, totally accountable world of electronic business, this is the core to success.
Many companies today, tend to engage in e-business projects; ventures or transformation long before a unified business model and a context for both development and management is established. Many important steps such as learning, planning, and thorough strategy analysis are either skipped or rushed prior to execution; steps that will ultimately maintain alignment between business development, operations, management and marketing in an electronic environment. As a result, electronic enterprises, in particular, due to typically rapid evolution, pay a price for a long time to come trying to manage what becomes unmanageable.
Large and small enterprises alike are also sold e-business solutions prematurely, as "the" answer to their problems and often from vendors ill-equipped to best handle the job within the "context" of the e-business management strategy; something many enterprises simply do not have.
At a time when there is dependency on a host of outsourced companies to operate aspects of your business outside of core competencies, and assuming it's a solid business to be in the first place; ensuring that certain principles and phases of development are adhered to is vital to long term success.
Thomas Power, co founder of Ecademy.com, after thousands of interviews with Internet luminaries such as Dell, Gates, Bezos and Ballmer, successful e-business operators and the like, can help "power" your business with "E-Business to the Power of 12: The Principles of. dotCompetition. Not only are these principles powerful, they are also organized in such a way that they operate as a 'platform', on which you can develop an e-business management strategy and better streamline business development, operations, management and marketing in an electronic environment. You will now know where you stand, what many of your issues are and how to proceed.
Once you've read the book, you can interact with Thomas Power and co, along with e-professionals in major markets around the world at Ecademy.com. Learn, network and develop your e-business within the context of this principle-centered platform. Ecademy.com is the place to be if you're involved with electronic business.

Dublin's Trade in Books 1550-1800 (Lyell Lectures, 1986-1987)
M. Pollard Manufacturer: Oxford University Press, USA ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0198184093 |
Book Description
The Irish book trade has hitherto been viewed as a footnote to the English trade. This is the first book-length study of Irish bookselling practices, particularly those of Dublin, in their own right. The study draws on a wealth of material - daybooks, imprints, advertisements, and the books themselves - to build up a detailed picture of the fortunes and practices of Irish bookselling. The English book trade bore heavily on the Irish, especially in the areas of legal restraints and censorship. Interestingly, there are documented instances of book-smuggling to Britain. But the study does not concentrate solely on relations with London: it looks at the market at home, the structure and economic background to the Dublin trade, and at what books were published and for whom. In particular, it examines the significant expansion of the book trade during the eighteenth century, and surveys imports and exports for the first time.

The 2007-2012 Outlook for Global Positioning System (GPS) Receivers in Greater China
Philip M. Parker Manufacturer: ICON Group International, Inc. ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback ASIN: 0497393026 Release Date: 2006-09-28 |
Product Description
This study covers the latent demand outlook for global positioning system (GPS) receivers across the regions of Greater China, including provinces, autonomous regions (Guangxi, Nei Mongol, Ningxia, Xinjiang, Xizang - Tibet), municipalities (Beijing, Chongqing, Shanghai, and Tianjin), special administrative regions (Hong Kong and Macau), and Taiwan (all hereafter referred to as regions). Latent demand (in millions of U.S. dollars), or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.) estimates are given across some 1,100 cities in Greater China. For each major city in question, the percent share the city is of the region and of Greater China is reported. Each major city is defined as an area of economic population, as opposed to the demographic population within a legal geographic boundary. For many cities, the economic population is much larger that the population within the city limits; this is especially true for the cities of the Western regions. For the coastal regions, cities which are close to other major cities or which represent, by themselves, a high percent of the regional population, actual city-level population is closer to the economic population (e.g. in Beijing). Based on this economic definition of population, comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a citys marketing and distribution value vis-à-vis others. This exercise is quite useful for persons setting up distribution centers or sales force strategies. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each region and city of influence, latent demand estimates are created for global positioning system (GPS) receivers. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved.

Global Business: 308 Tips to Take Your Company Worldwide
Robert H. Scarlett , and J.D., Ph.D., Lawrence E. Koslow Manufacturer: Gulf Professional Publishing ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0884157539 |
Book Description
In today's world, more and more businesses are taking steps toward globalization, and companies must work to remain competitive. 'Global Business' will help every business professional understand how all the components fit together to create a truly global business.Customer Reviews:
A terrific business guide to International business people.......2002-09-12
Everything about doing international business.......2000-01-12
Very helpful guide for those contemplating going global........1999-08-19
As a desktop reference, Global Business is well organized. The reader can quickly find a topic of interest through the table of contents or through the well-conceptualized index. Once the topic is located, the reader finds a detailed, checklist-style set of tips. If you want to know how to pack goods for export, go to page 86; how to establish pricing policies go to page 77; how to create a NAFTA product go to page 53. The reader is encouraged to access the book at any point based on his or her particular interest or need.
Global Business is more than a desktop reference, however. Taken as a whole, the book is a great overall introduction to understanding the problem of expanding a business into worldwide markets. Though practical in its organization and style, it is comprehensive in its content and is equally as useful for the practitioner and the student of international business.
Global markets now offer wonderful opportunities for small and mid-sized firms. Unfortunately, these firms do not always have the expertise and know how to accomplish the complicated task of expanding into these markets. Global Business is particularly well suited for individuals in these companies endeavoring to take their companies global.
Koslow and Scarlett have provided a most useful guide to the new millennium of global business.
