Book Description
This book presents Martin Shubik's important contribution to the development of game theory, and shows how game theory methods can be used in the study of prices, money and financial institutions.
After introducing the reader to his career and the influences which developed his research, Professor Martin Shubik addresses the price system considering issues such as competitive equilibrium, economic exchange and production. He explores the competitive price system and the emergence of money and financial systems to develop a theory of monetary and financial institutions. Specifically, he examines the role of money in the economy using both cooperative and non-cooperative solutions in game theory. Throughout the book Martin Shubik stresses that the value of games, which can be both played and analyzed, provides an important link between theory and process and institutional studies.
This book will be welcomed by economists, especially those interested in game theory, as well as by money and banking professionals.

Read it and weep........2003-09-27
Title of book doesnt do justice. Basic book about the auction business. It gives info on the business side of it. But doesnt give info on setting up a web site or about website software.
A Best Buy.......2002-11-10
Here a book that can inform you on what you should do and the things you need to know in order to get your online auction business up and going
It's a good Primer.......2002-01-16
I have read three books on Online auctions so far ("Getting started in internet auctions"; "Confessions of an Internet Auction Junkie": and this book). I have to admit that I prefer "confessions over the other two. This book is good for someone thinking about or in the early stages of planning a Internet auction business.
The biggest draw back about all of the "Auction" books is the lack of information on how to structure the business. I really would like to know what to name a business such as this? What form of business is common...LLC, Inc., or what. I came away with a lot of questions. Don't get me wrong, I liked the book. It just left me wanting more. That's why I gave it three stars.
Follow The Yellowbrick Road!!.......2001-01-05
This book is mistitled. The title should read "How to Succeed at Life". I know that probably seems a stretch when we're talking an online auction book but it struck me that way. The author not only covers the static knowledge required to start up and maintain an online business, he also throws in some great philosophy while he's at it.
I had been wanting to make the pluge into online auctioning as a business for some time. I had even started selling and buying a few items online. That was good, because I knew enough to know what I needed to learn. I had stockpiled quite a few questions and the author hit them one by one. The book covers everything from the self examination all of us should take before we make commitments in life, to the nitty gritty details of the online auction process. The author then throws in some "outside the box" (I really hate that phrase) thoughts in his "Going Beyond Business as Usual" Chapter. Good stuff. The book has a very logical flow to it and the "Insider Tips" show the author has been there in the trenches. Call me polyanna, but I'm ready to charge.

Book Description
Twenty-one sets of twenty-one ideas, activities and tips drawn from decades of international practical experience
*Invaluable sourcebook on participatory training methods from the authority in the field
*Essential for trainers, facilitators and teachers
*Robert Chambers' author of "Whose Reality Counts?", and "Challenging the Professions"
Making participation real requires workshops, training and learning that are themselves participatory. This sourcebook presents the results of the author's vast experience in the form of twenty-one sets of ideas, activities and tips, both serious and fun, for topics such as getting started, seating, forming groups, managing large numbers, analysis, feedback, evaluation and ending.
From the Preface: "This is for all who try to help others learn and change... There is something here for participatory teachers and trainers; for organizers, moderators and facilitators who want their conferences and workshops to be interactive; for staff in training institutes who want to enliven their courses; for faculty and teachers in universities, colleges and schools who would like to enable students to do more of their own analysis; and for those engaged in management training who want to widen their repertoire."
Customer Reviews:
Single best volume.......2004-06-04
I have taught facilitation for 20 years and maintain an extended bibliography of available books. If someone said they can buy only one book as a resource in facilitating, I would recommend this one. It is a remarkable collection of exercises, tools, strategies, and tips.

Praise for On Course for Business
"I have been playing golf for a long time. It is one of life's greatest accomplishments as well as one of the great secrets to success. Women, for years, have been left out on purpose and a revolution needs to happen for them to play in the golf game of life. On Course for Business: Women and Golf by Suzanne Woo is part of that revolution."
-Stedman Graham, Author, Educator, and Businessman
"In her new book, Suzanne Woo offers solid, accessible information not only for women executives who want to use golf as a tool to grow their businesses but also for new golfers looking for a trustworthy primer. No matter their skill level, women golfers will find this book a helpful resource that gives them a clear grasp of the basics, while at the same time promoting their enjoyment of the game."
-Leslie Day Craige, Editor in Chief, Golf for Women magazine
"Suzanne's book has captured so well the many ways golf can enhance one's life and career. It is so compatible with the mission and vision of the EWGA that it is a pleasure to offer it my endorsement."
-Sara L. Hume, Executive Director, Executive Women's Golf Association (EWGA)
"This book is an indispensable guide for any woman who plays-or wants to play-golf with clients and colleagues. In a friendly and nonthreatening approach, Woo shares strategies that will motivate you to play for pleasure and possible business opportunities. It is truly advantageous for any professional to learn how to use the game of golf to give you insights on a person's business style."
-William R. Hueffner, Vice President, Global Sales, National Car Rental
Customer Reviews:
Didn't want to put it down!.......2006-06-01
As a beginning golfer who has so much to learn, I have found the answers to so many of my questions in this great book. Great concise information - very easy reading, informative and entertaining book.
Not Just For Women Only.......2005-03-30
I am new to the financial industry and quickly discovered that golf is a common method of doing business. A colleague of mine heard me discussing this and suggested that I read this book as a prelude to my golfing with clients. I took the advice. Much of the book is directed towards women who are new to the game. However it is applicable to anyone interested in playing golf in a business setting. In fact there is a chapter devoted to men golfing with women decision makers. It includes specific suggestions on how to make a novice woman golfer feel comfortable. Again, though relating to women, most of the suggestions apply to both men and women. I remember when I started golfing, though not in a business setting there was still that uncomfortable feeling one can get in an unfamiliar environment. I would have found this book a confidence builder then as much as I do now as my golfing takes on a business orientation. I highly recommend this book to both men and women who intend to start using golf as a business asset.
THE Business Development Guide for Women.......2002-05-30
What an amazing book! Women have been left out, or behind, far too long in busines, in large part because they don't realize or appreciate how important golf is in American business. This book provides practical, understandable information on etiquette, playing rules, and business savvy. It's THE guide for women who want more confidence on the course, and who want to use golf to find, build and strengthen important business relationships. Thank you, Ms. Woo, for this much needed, beautifully written book.
Great kickstart to business relationships!!.......2002-05-09
As a businesswomen and relatively new golfer I found Suzanne's book, On Course for Business, to be an excellent primer on the do's and don'ts for using golf in a business environment. Now,
I'll be more encouraged to invite clients and prospects out for some quality on course time as a way to create and build relationships. I'm looking forward for the good summer weather so I can put what the book taught me into practice.
Fantastic Read!.......2002-04-18
I bought Suzanne's book about two weeks ago because I've just started a new business and realized that I'm missing out on networking opportunities by not being on the golf course. What a fantastic and inspirational read! Her sense of humor combined with her specific examples of women who've had the guts to get out there and play (regardless of their score) has motivated me to get out there and join them! Last night, I had the privilege of hearing Suzanne speak at a SF Chamber of Commerce Event. Her presentation, like her book, is filled with easy to follow tips and techniques for playing the game of "business golf." I would recommend her book and seminars to anyone interested in learning the ins and outs of this all-important networking tool.
