Magical Marketing is absolutely fabulous! This book is long overdue. I read it from cover to cover and it is definitely one of the best books on marketing for the small business. I particularly enjoyed seeing how the author related each principle to real lfe examples, as well as discussing how any business can adapt the same techniques. Highly recommended.

Techniques that Work for promoting services & products.......2004-03-06

The thing I really liked about this book is that it does not focus exclusively with marketing physical products. Yes, plenty of space is devoted to that aspect of marketing but in every chapter there are also some great ideas and specific guidance on marketing Services, including insurance sales, travel agents, photographers and hairdressing salons to name but a few. The book held my interest throughout and I found it very helpful in my line of work, which is an independent mortgage broker.

I recently set up my own business and the concept behind this book intrigued me - that is applying the marketing techniques of large businesses to small businesses. Most of the other books I looked at seemed to over complicate the subject of marketing. Mr Lock does a great job in making a complex subject easy to follow, with some great advice on how any small business can make more sales. I particularly liked the layout of the book, with its short, manageable sections. A few of the ideas that were presented were familiar to me, but most of the suggestions were ones I had not come across before. I definitely give the book a thumbs up!

Excellent Overview.......2003-10-24

Howard's book is an excellent overview of a number of service provider issues and technology. For myself, it helped me to wade through the morass of VPN technologies on the market when we were researching the replacement of our frame relay network. If you have an interest in the issues faced by service providers, or if you would like to learn more about wide area network technologies, then this book is a must-read. Howard's sense of humor and insightful anecdotes make this an especially easy read, despite the high technical content.

Howard Berkowitz is known in the networking community for his writing which has helped many, many people earn advanced certifications. But Howard doesn't write to that goal; he writes, instead, to the goal of helping people understand what it takes to make a network actually perform and deliver the business function it was purchased for. This is another in that series of lucid and focused books.

BSPN looks at the problem from the point of view of the engineer or technical manager who needs to deliver a service provider network--an ISP, ASP, etc. Over the course of the book, he uses a few fictitious businesses to demonstrate how a service provider could feasibly meet their needs. The content starts with the problem to be solved--as it always should--and progresses to how the promises are worded (Service Level Agreements, etc.), and on into the technical considerations that go into putting such a service in place.

As usual, he peppers the book with enough real stories to lend perspective to the thinking you have to do in planning networking (though most of don't plan for an adult male tiger "marking" the equipment). His diagrams are generally conceptual rather than using icons for different networking devices. After all, if you understand the logic, you can apply the best business equipment choice for the job you need to do.

I have never wrote a review before but had to with this book. Of the 3 wi fi books I bought here, this one stood apart from the others. Especaily if you are looking to scale up from 1 or 2 user networks.

Best book for the money about 802.11x.......2004-08-09

I purchased this book for a good in-depth overview on the 802.11x protocol. It went above and beyond my expectations. Clearly explained topics and well written chapters come together for one of the best technical books I have read to date. Excellent coverage of the RF properties of 802.11x.Covers all the areas one must consider if building a WLAN, WWAN, or WMAN. This book really opened my eyes to the potential of wi-fi and its applications, I especially appreciated the authors inclusion of various economic aspects in the book. i.e potential for profit in WISP industry, and cost/efficiency analysis of wired VS. wireless networks.

An Easy Way to Understand WiFi.......2003-12-17

I checked it out at the library to get a better understanding of the WiFi technologies and how they can be deployed. As a new marketing executive for a WISP (Wireless Internet Service Provider), I found the information easy to comprehend with enough depth to allow a non-technical person like myself to actively participate in highly-technical meetings. I immediately added it to my Christmas wish list.

I recently bought this book after I borrowed it from my local library. I tried to find it a second time, and it's always checked-out in all four branches of our library system. The call number is 004.678 OHR. Out of all the 802.11 books, this is one that is the most packed with the real information you need to install an 802.11 network - antenna theory, how to do site surveys, how networks connect together, how to do an as-built. The book also describes how to debunk and overcome the perceived barriers that keep people from using wireless - security, interference, regulatory issues... If I was to recommend one single book on 802.11 to anyone, this would be the one. It definitely earns its five stars.

I just got the book recently from Amazon. I was really impressed. I love it. I got just the right and meticulous amount of detail I was expecting compared to other books I've read on the subject. What was really great about this book was all the real-life scenarios which were taken up in detail as compared to other "theoretical" publications. The people who wrote this book really seem to know what WiFi is all about. I would really recommend it to anyone who wants to learn how to deploy WiFi networks quickly. Its a great book from both the technical and business perspective.

Simple 1-Day Strategy.......2004-01-27

The book is only 40 pages, but it gives the reader and in-depth explanation of one trading strategy. Setups for this strategy don't occur on an everyday basis, so you can't use this strategy for your everyday trading. What I really liked is how the explanations of this one strategy taught me to look at specific components of trading setups and helped me develop and track my own trading strategies. Not great, but very good.

total waste of money. DON'T BUY IT........2003-12-03

I only gave 1 star because they won't let you give no stars. This type of trading book goes under the genre of 'very expensive because theoretically, you can get your money back by making just one winning trade.' Don't fall for it: this book (at app. $1.00 per page!) is absolute and total rubbish. Basically, it tells you to look for a stock making a 20 day high, then after a one day pause, enter the breakout on the so called 'trigger' day. But get this: on page 22, the author(s) make the following stunning admission and I quote: "As you can see, this method is simple and easy to identify. Here is the catch: Most trigger days will never occur. This is one of the keys."

Can you believe that?? If most trigger days NEVER occur, then what the heck are you looking for? The authors provide some arcane and screwy explanation, saying that you are looking for many small trades with minimal losses and app. 1 in 6 or so trades will work. Aha, so that's the KEY? (LOL). Hey, aren't we ALL looking for many small trades with minimal losses? Problem is, tradiung is an extremely difficult and complex thing to do, thousands of books have been written on the subject, and the above method is surely not THE ONE.

As if this isn't bad enough, the book is poorly written with very weak and incomplete examples. For example, the so called 20 day high, pause and trigger days are shown by a series of seemingly random OHCL bars, but what exactly are we looking for here? Dojis, high-low, low-high bars and in what sequence? Also, no examples of securities with precise entry points in terms of price are given.

Readers should always be extremely wary of home grown trading books (this one appears to be self-published), written by folks without established financial credentials trying to snag a quick buck from information-hungry or novice traders. Truly shameful.

Good Strategy to Trade With.......2002-10-01

Simplicity. There is nothing like it. I have often thought that the simplest method can often yield the best results in all areas of life. This strategy is no different. For those of you with backgrounds in technical trading, I think that you will really appreciate what this book has to offer. Folks who are not familiar with moving averages and bar charts may not be able to fully appreciate the power of this simple strategy. In any case, if you need a strategy that will help you find trading opportunities day-in and day-out, then you should give this book a good, long look.

I don't like to waste my time with long, uninteresting books. This book is great because it only too me about an hour to go through and really grasp and then I was off and running. My first 5 trades (over 4 days) using this strategy netted me over a $1000. Quick read and easy money makes me doubly happy!

One of the main reasons I bought the book was the promise of case data and sample code especially in R (and splus). However, the prentice Hall site had only presentation slides (pdf files) and no data or code. Moreover their own tech support had no cluse as to why these files were missing.
This is a classic example of overpromise and underdeliver. I would avoid this book in the future.
