The details are given in short-story form, relating actual instances from the author's own experience as a bank officer. With that in mind (as you would expect) all the names and financial figures have been changed to protect the anonymity of the parties involved. Which is why the author was forced to use a pseudonym, so as not to call attention to the institutions that retained him. Readers should take special note that the occurrences/conditions recounted are indicative of all similar sized institutions. Which is to say regional sized banks where most of American business goes for financing.

I bought the book because I was applying for and SBA loan, after reviewing with my husband and my partner we returned the book because we found it to be of very little help!

Parker, a former banker, takes us throughthe incomprehensible logic of banking loans. Do the terms "dinosaur brains" or "ostrich management" have meaning to you? They will after you're done with this book.

The auther utilizes a genial, anecdotal writing style that leads you through the loan and approval process by retelling his personal experiences. His stories teach without being dry or scholarly. There are no lectures here, no dogma, and no sermonizing. The author genuinely wants us to understand the industry so we can succeed.

Parkers' message is clear. Banks are large, highly structured, highly regulated institutions that are unable to handle, or comprehend, the entrepreneural world that they make their living from. If half of what he writes is true I'm surprised his sanity lasted long enough for him to escape.

This is a no-nonsense, common sense approach to job hunting. There is no room for senseless babble here. The Total System, is a professional, uncomplicated and realistic bible for the "soon to be employed." It doesn't matter whether you are a top-ranked CEO, or an entry-level, college student, this book will basically hand you your next job.

Let me put it this way: this book helped me to land my first job out of college, successfully win a regional director's position within 2 years of employment with the same company and then launch my own consulting business. Interesting read, useful information.......2003-09-18

This book was recommended by a friend and I can say that it was well worth the read. The book is kind of unique in the fact that it contains fiction and non-fiction, but the concept worked well. What makes the book really stand out is how the information flows and culminates in the second half. While the first half is basically a story on a character named Jay and his financial escapades, the second half is where the meat and potatoes are.

This section takes a look at important topics such as how we spend our money, how to analyze ones finances through personal financial statements, as well as what professionals one can turn to for help. The section after that, which Mr. Rogers refers to as the "Cornerstones", really points out how to change one's finances. I read RK's "Rich Dad Poor Dad" and there is a noticeable difference. While RK talks about becoming rich, Mr. Rogers gives you steps on how to actually achieve this goal. In a nutshell it starts by getting rid of debt, living below your means so that you can save, investing in items (this can be a traditional investment such as stocks or an alternative investment such as REIT's). The ideas he presents on saving money include taxes as well as insurance. Most people tend to neglect these two areas, but they can add up to substantial savings if you pay attention.

Overall, I think the book was well thought out and easy to read. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because the story was lacking in some areas (i.e. some typos and characters that lacked full development at times). Yet the focus of the book isn't really in the story (although it does prompt you to think a lot about your own financial life). It's the second half of the book that really makes it a worthwhile read, and that is where this book surpasses most books in this genre.

This book provides a comprehensive coverage of the technical and economic aspects of various facets of air transportation including commercial airlines, charter operations, corporate services and other related businesses such as leasing company operations and fractional ownership. The reader gains insights into the areas where costs can be saved and revenues enhanced. For example, the author presents various strategies to minimize fuel usage and hence improve the bottom line.

The book is well written allowing it to be accessible to people working in various specialties in the air transportation business that have opportunities to learn about economic air transport operations. Among the subjects covered include aircraft maintenance economics, various aircraft financing options enabling managers to evaluate those most beneficial for their business and revenue enhancement strategies. The reader will be pleased to learn that environmental issues are not forgotten.

Overall, a useful and helpful book for managers in the air transportation industry who need to learn how to minimize costs, improve revenue and thus enhance profits.

Too much, too little, need more -- focus.......2003-12-13

The title is misleading. I searched through every chapter to decipher how to make a profit with passenger, cargo, and/or other areas of air transportation. It covers a tremendous amount of information like aircraft configurations and technical designs. Unfortunately, and all so common, lots of problems given about aviation; but few solutions offered about profit strategies!

Each chapter technically covers an area of air transportation, but even the short chapters are not extensive enough. Only the most fundamental elements are written. There is not enough pertinent information delivered for the reader to absorb a firm understanding about air transportation.
