I connected with the words of Joline Godfrey. Her evaluation on what women are doing in business, helps all of us see the opportunities to do things differently. The first chapter where she talks about the right stuff struck home - women needing connection with others, seeing people as whole individuals, wanting balance in life, seeing business as a creative outlet, are all principles she dives into - they make sense for those seeking to more than financial goals. There are many bottom lines in life - the women business owners the book reviews get it and are designing business with a bigger picture in mind. Thank you Joline for shifting my thinking - I was already headed in that direction - your book help me get there a little faster.

This book was a life changer for me. My entire paradygm shifted about my own potential to be an entrepreneur after reading this book. It was instrumental in my decision to leave my public school teaching position and start my own business. I found the specific stories of women's successes and struggles encouraging. I had often given up on ideas once problems started to arise, but after reading this book, I adopted the mantra "Every problem has a solution." It has helped me through many a seemingly crisis situation. I have reread it several times. The most valuable piece for me was the perspective that we women can do something that we love, have fun AND make a living. My husband also enjoyed this book, so it's not just for women.

Here's a book on e-business that is actually entertaining in the way it approaches its subject. This book takes on the ambitious task of addressing both the B2C and B2B aspects of e-commerce, full of good insights and constructive advice in both areas. Mr. Taylor and Ms. Terhune combine the best of their experience from Gartner with new, independent research and conclusions, all written in an entertaining, informative way. While not outright funny, but written in a light style that makes it more readable that most of the E-Business books I've read.

Maxey and O'Conner's experience with public speaking provides the reader with useful tips and concrete examples without being "gimmicky". Their book is easy to read and allows you to pick and choose what applies to your particular 'speaking' circumstance. The authors give you lots to think about as you prepare your own speeches, presentations, or lectures. As a university professor, I really got a lot out of the book.

In reading the entire book in 2 sittings, I can say that I found the content to be engaging, pragmatic, and very timely solution to some of my current issues around presenting.
Yes, it is a lot of information, but the book doesn't feel unapproachable. Nor is it a "presenting for dummy's" kind of book. Good balance between too much information and too little.

There is so much bad advice out there on how to present, mostly from people who "think" they know what to do. Maxey and O'Connor have "done it", with every type of audience and industry. 45 years of real world experience. They absolutely make sense to me on what actually works! This is the definitive book on presenting in my opinion. It doesn't matter whether you are presenting to a large or small group, giving a talk at a wedding or a local business group, it is about the audience and that connection. It is a series of one on one conversations!

Lani tells you step by step how to get organized and prepared for ANY kind of speech/presentation, whether formal or informal, to a group of 3 or a group of 1000. I think this is a high quality book with some very good points from an obviously passionate young man. I don't necessarily agree with all points, and feel at times it is a little superficial but it is well written and very enjoyable. Overall, I think it is an outstanding book and would enjoy a sequel, once Mr. Harbeke has developed in his career.
Get In! is Good Advice.......2004-05-10
Dan Harbeke's 'Get In!' is a great resource for high school and college students. Sure a lot of it is common sense, but it is being reminded of that which is important. I have applied a lot of what Dan Harbeke has discussed and have had a great deal of success in making area connections and ensuring future contacts. 'Get In!' is not going to solve all of one's problems or tell you everything you need to know, but it will certainly get you moving in the right direction. Thanks Dan.
Great Info for College Students!.......2004-05-09
I would recommend this book wholeheartedly to anybody looking to get ahead in the world of business. This book oozes energy and really gives the reader a sense of what businesses are looking for in a young candidate. Harbeke speaks with authority and offers practical and crucial tips on the ins and outs of self-marketing. This book is a quick read and a must-have for the motivated job-seeker that's looking for new angles and opportunities!
When College Ambition goes Wrong.......2004-05-07
When asked to write a good review for this book I was faced with a moral dillema between courtesy and honesty. This book rehashes what your high school guidance counselor presented, some common sense, and some sense that is not so common or correct. However, if you seek to read a business guide book, and think that Donald Trump takes too long, then maybe buy this book as it can be consolidated into about ten pages; although, it could benefit from some color pictures.
A fast, stimulating, energizing read.......2004-04-28
Dan's book is amazing. As the initial proofreader of the manuscript before it reached the publisher, I was astounded by his conversational tone, as if he were sitting right next to you and counseling you over a quick coffee break. Yet, as easy as this book is to digest, the ideas and anecdotes within it are timeless and, in some cases, actually new to the ever-growing world of business/marketing books.
I think the greatest asset to Dan's writing is that he teaches his readers how to explore their goals and dreams while staying in touch with and building upon who they are as a PERSON, and not just as a BUSINESSMAN/WOMAN.

This isn't your typical book about finances and budgeting. Mary Hunt and her family recovered from devastating debt in the '80s--a debt incurred secretly over years of using credit card after credit card, compounded by the spectacular failure of the business she started with her husband. There's a strong religious component to her beliefs about money and responsibility, but she comes across as upbeat and modest, rarely dogmatic (except about the evils of easy credit). She encourages openness about money problems, and there's a sense of genuine caring in her writing that eliminates the distance between her and the reader--a quality she's put to good use with her Cheapskate Monthly newsletter. This is one of the best books you can buy--regardless of your gender--about the financial pitfalls of modern life and how to climb out of them.

Mary Hunt's INCREDIBLE, but this is her weakest book........2004-08-20
I'm a HUGE Mary Hunt fan... her cheapskate lifestyle and debt-proof way of life has completely turned my finances around for the best! I've read nearly all of her books and love them so much I am quick to buy many copies and give them to others... EXCEPT THIS ONE. As a feminist, I found this book enormously patronizing. I felt that when she generalized women's spending habits, she made grossly inaccurate assumptions like I don't understand how a credit card works. If you don't know how a credit card works, read this book! I do not recommend this book unless you are a woman completely clueless about money. If you consider yourself financially savvy and trying to gain more tools, go with "The Complete Cheapskate." If you're married and trying to get a debt-proofed life, go with "Debt-Proof Marriage..." "The Gourmet Cheapskate" is also incredible! I also highly recommend her cheapskatemonthly.com newsletter, but the books are better if you're trying to make a personal change in your life with your finances. Good luck!

I found this book to be extremely helpful and informative. Mary Hunt offers practical advice in a manner that makes you feel like you're listening to advice from a good friend or relative who has been through it all. She also made me feel like I wasn't a freak for having bad financial habits but that I needed to learn how to break them. For those of you out there who are compulsive spenders (like myself), this book is a great way to start getting on the right financial track.

Mary really gave me hope! I thought this was just for women but discovered what she had to say applied to both me AND my wife.
This book is a real answer to prayer and has given us a great leap forward down the road to getting out of debt...once and for all!
