"Me too" book.......2005-12-19

This is not a good book at all. I have no problem with the basic message that we can learn from history. What I do not like is the style of the book. The writing style is disconnected. Some facts are given and then the author says "This shows that..." or "So...". I never follow these jumps in the author's logic. My personal view is that the author is very sloppy. The author also likes to prove things spending a page or two referring to another author. It is fine to quote other people but the author must have a voice as well. Finally the author is a bit sloppy with minor facts. They are never referenced and and sometimes totally wrong - overstatements to strenthen the author's point of view. Overall a very big disappointment.

I am new to the 'home office' concept of working. A critical success factor in this setup, where face-to-face human interaction is minimal, is to have powerful telephone skills.

I found that the book is obsolete and does not cover modern-age telephone techniques including the following :

- Effective Conference Calling - Effective Technical Presentations on telephone - Effective 'Bridge Calling' - leaving effective voice mail messages - Telephone Etiquettes - Mobile Phone techniques - Controlled Gossiping - Getting past the secretary to the Boss

Instead, the book digresses into normal sales techniques and telemarketing techniques, contradicting with the book cover : 'guide for manager or business owner'.

The book can better be retitled as 'elementary telephone skills for telemarketers'

Pro: There are some outdated information or errors, but livable as this directory is the most comprehensive in the market.

Con: However, a time savings database requires a steep ($). Otherwise it deserves 5 stars.

Not good in a bad economy.......2001-11-07

If the economy is bad, this book does not help a lot. Because companies do not use headhunters as much. But as soon as the economy comes back, I would buy the latest version again....

great resource for changing careers.......2001-07-24

I've used this book a few times and know many execs who regularly use it to keep headhunters up to date with their resume. Half of the pages are indexes to you can find recruiters by where they are, what industry they cover, or what function (finance, marketing etc.) The most useful index is the one with hundreds of different detailed specialties for the headhunters. Basically the way to use this book is to contact recruiters who specialize in what you do. Don't expect hundreds of replies: they only call if and when they have a match, and your resume needs to be word perfect. But it only takes one offer! Another useful thing is they list "contingency recruiters" separately - these are more useful for technical and mid-level jobs around $50-75k. Definitely use the current year's book to avoid wasting time on old addresses, like the other reviewer said. Best used in conjunction with a resume-writing advice book.

Comprehensive but Dated Data on Executive Recruiters.......2001-06-11

It's pretty obvious Kennedy put a bunch of time into the collection of recruiter information. Even still, the phone and fax numbers had a ridiculous number of errors. The time it took to backtrack the errors made for frustrating hours of work. Let's just say the whole experience was marginal.

Executive search information in printed form might not be able to keep up with evolving data.

Get it when it first comes out next year or not at all.

This is the bible of executive recruiters... It breaks the recruiters by location, retained versus contingency, as well as industry specific. Very helpful and up to date.

This is a basic guide to executive recruiters........1998-09-18

This is definitely the largest compilation of executive recruiters on the market. Other than the sort by state or industry, the list is very basic. The information for individual recruiters is very basic and does not include web site or e-mail address, which was very important to me to have. Additionally, some recruiters have multiple locations, which are not mentioned in the book. I would suggest The Directory of Executive Recruiters 1998 instead---it is more current, more comprehensive, and has better sorting organization. However, if all you are looking for is a basic list of recruiters, this book should be adequate.
