Product Description
Frank Knight (1885-1972) fathered the famous Chicago School of Economics, whose members are among the most decorated in history. An abstract theorist, Knight emphasized the role of risk and uncertainty in economic affairs, and was philosophically concerned with such topics as means vs. ends, economics as a study of human nature, and human communication. Although Knight did not create a systematic economic theory, his keen critical eye and his biting wit make him one of the most colorful and provocative of all the great economists.
Great Economic Thinkers is a collection of cassette presentations that explain, in understandable language, the major ideas of historys most important economists. Special emphasis is placed on each thinkers attitude toward capitalism, revealing their influence in todays debate on economic progress and prosperity.
Customer Reviews:
Knowledge Products does great work.......2007-03-27
I have the whole "Great Economic Thinkers" set on audio cassette. I found the material quite interesting and the presentation excellent. These presentations are more than just a book turned to audio media. Even if you have a fairly short commute, you can get through this material in a week.
The Chicago School is towards the end of the series. You may want to start with Adam Smith and work your way forward.

Book Description
A practical guide to integrating gender into technology and development, this book demonstrates why gender awareness needs to be integrated into technology transfer. Opening with an overview of the debate, the author looks at how technological development can be both a threat and an ally to women in their various roles. She provides a model training program for successful technology transfer and also examines the benefits of existing market-driven technological promotion. The second part focuses on the integration of gender into development projects. It presents a series of case studies and a useful list of issues to consider when introducing technology to women’s enterprises.

Book Description
American business is in the midst of cataclysmic change. Corporations, re-engineering themselves to compete in the new global marketplace, lay off millions of employees, then outsource the services they performed, often to the former employees themselves. Disillusioned employees are voluntarily leaving the corporate nest in record numbers to set up small businesses of their own. Technological advances make these tiny operations not only competitive but often the optimal provider of services for the next century. These forces have led to an exponential growth of home-based businesses. Generally, these new entrepreneurs already possess the skills necessary to bring their products and services to life. What most lack is practical knowledge of how to position and market themselves. Understandably, most do not want to be marketers; many have a downright aversion to this crucial activity. And many will fail - not because of their product, but because of failure to promote it effectively. This book can help to change that.
Customer Reviews:
Must have marketing tool!.......2007-07-30
So far this is one of my favorite books. The connection made between marketing for small businesses and guerrilla warfare is brilliant. You my friends are the guerrillas. The giant corporations are your competitors, and you can hit them by being quick, responsive and inventive. Your strength is in being small.
The idea of finding your niche in the marketplace is an amazing one. How many stories have you read on other people's blogs or in entrepreneurial magazines about people who made a few million selling upscale clothes for little boys, lotions and shampoos for babies made with all natural products or jars of different, fancy types of peanut butter. Those are just a few of the stories I've heard lately.
I've started thinking that I really enjoy the marketing side of business. I can't wait until our business is further in its development. Then, I can use everything I've learned in this book, about how to use my time and money wisely, to ensure that those most likely to be my clients know about my business.
Anyone that owns a startup business should get this book. It has so many great ideas, you can really customize your marketing strategy to your business.

Straight forward, easy-to-read. Great Supplimental Work........2006-08-02
I picked up this book on a whim. Turns out it was a good choice, even now, years after its first publication.
The easy format make it simple to scan through and, if you're like most business owners, time is precious so it helps.
The array of marketing materials it covered, plus the simple "case studies" kept it interesting.
I'd recommend this to home-based business owners looking to expand on their marketing techiniques. It can be daunting to launch a new campaign or seek out another avenue, this book takes some of the tension away while familiarizing the reader with his options.
bored, bored, bored.......2002-09-05
This book was completely outclassed by Michael Levine's Guerrilla PR Wired. Don't read anything else; it's a waste of time.
Boost your business brain-power!.......1998-06-04
Can you and your home-based business really compete with large corporate competitors who have big advertising budgets and publicity campaigns? Levinson and Godin say yes, you can! Guerrilla Marketing for the Home-Based Business explains in detail how you can use your size and location to your advantage, by positioning your business to serve niche markets, offering superior and personalized customer service, generating word of mouth, and making maximum use of low cost publicity tools. The book is peppered throughout with real-life examples of entrepreneurs who have successfully applied Levinson's techniques -- this is just one of the ways Levinson and Godin manage to brilliantly combine marketing theories and concepts with solid practical advice. I guarantee you'll be reeling with new ideas and enthusiasm for your business after reading the first chapter!
A source of bountiful info on guerrila tactics in business.......1997-02-06
This book tells about how to, make pipe bombs, letter bombs, use hit and run tactics and other guerrilla warfare techniques that can be used in running a small business. Just kidding :) !! Guerrilla Marketing for the Home-Based Business is a wonderful source of knowledge and info on all forms of marketing and business

Book Description
The mature consumer market is highly heterogeneous, and to reach it most effectively marketers must fit different marketing strategies to different market subsegments. Here is a marketing tool that can not only help segment the market, but target it successfully. Dr. Moschis's market segmentation model is based on state-of-the-art knowledge and methodology. It shows marketers how to develop industry-specific marketing strategy, and demonstrates why this approach works. That, plus the fact that Dr. Moschis's model can be integrated into other databases to enhance their value, makes his book especially useful to marketing professionals, and to students and teachers of marketing on the graduate level. "Gerontographics" is a life-stage model developed to help marketers to better understand the heterogeneous older consumer market. Dr. Moschis points out that the model is unique, and different from other models of older consumer behavior in several ways. First, it is built on state-of-the-art knowledge drawn from various disciplines. Instead of relying on a single approach to or assumption about human behavior, it takes into account a wide range of factors and approaches. Second, the model was tested and validated using multiple methods. Not only is it the result of empirical methods, but it also reflects current thinking among consumer researchers on how to study behavior. Third, because the marketplace is dynamic, the life-stage model is flexible. It accommodates changes over time, to reflect changes in the environment and in people, and the emergence of new types of consumers. Finally, the model is directly linked to marketing strategies. It suggests specific courses of marketing action an organization should take to secure better results.

Book Description
International agreements and environmental regulations are important constraints in today's business context. By analyzing development and case studies within NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement), the authors demonstrate how firms can develop strategies which utilize international trade
and environment regimes to open up international markets.
Customer Reviews:
From a review published in: International Affairs, Vol 76(1).......2000-02-17
This is a refreshing, multi-disciplinary study that highlights the importance of firms, governments and international institutions in the regional and global marketplace. The authors, who draw on the disciplines of management, economics, political science and law, develop a model of complex institutional responsiveness based on an array of innovative firm strategies that have been implemented through the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) to overcome environmental regulatory protectionism. Based on an analysis of trade-environment disputes in North America from 1980 to the present, the authors examined 24 leading case studies (of 84 relevant cases) and conducted 230 confidential interviews with senior executives and officials in governments, environmental groups and research centres. The cases focus on firms that have sought to benefit from environmental regulatory protection from free market competition (e.g. in agriculture, forestry and fishery) and on firms that have sought to defend themselves against this type of regulatory shelter (e.g. in automobiles and chemicals). Three fascinating and highly detailed cases on fuel, agriculture and the automotive industry are analysed through their complex institutional responsiveness model for which five levels of environmental regulation that can affect four types of firms are identified. Three major findings are presented in this pioneering work. First, NAFTA's environmental institutions benefit the regional ecology and all North American firms through increased competitiveness and better market access. Second, complex institutional responsiveness helps to explain the firm's political strategy in the face of the rising incidence of trade-environment friction within NAFTA (and on a global scale). Third, a NAFTA community of stakeholders is emerging from the firm's varied responses to highly complex issues, but there is still much to be done on a policy level to broaden and deepen this community.
Seminal Work on Impact of NAFTA's Enviro Side Agreements.......2000-02-16
Another important work by the Rugman, Kirton and Soloway trio. Building on their earlier writings, in this collection the focus is largely on the business impact of the environmental side agreements. These side agreements could form an important model for future treaties, so they are worthy of the close and careful study given here. This is a vital resource for a broad range of scholars and practicioners.
