Markets or Governments remedies this situation by providing a formal theory of nonmarket failure, analyzing such problems as redundant costs, monopoly, frequency of unanticipated externalities, and bureaucracy in such nonmarket institutions as foundations, universities, and government. This new edition updates the data and results contained in the first edition and includes references and applications of the theory to the ongoing process of system transformation in Russia, Ukraine, and Eastern Europe. The discussion of earlier literature that is relevant to the theory of nonmarket failure has been expanded.

I am enjoying, "Listening Leaders". It is laid out like a well crafted sermon. The points are clear. The use of review is instructive. The illustrations are illuminating. This is not just a self-help book, it is a self-teaching book. For learning not to take place, the reader would purposely have to put a stop to it.

Do not buy this book. I feel like I've just been robbed in some dark alley. This guy has no more business writing a so-called book on copywriting than he would teaching a course in neurosurgery. If the guy has no English skills (he calls overly promotional copy "self-servicing"), you'd think he'd at least find a high school kid to proofread it for him. His 7-week plan? Write seven sales letters and send them out once per week to people you find on craigslist. 95 pages? 50 of them are samples of his own barely readable "copywriting." It was insulting! A rip-off! A fraud! Boy, do I feel stupid and embarrassed for having spent good money on this thing. Don't make my mistake. Move on.

Este libro, junto con el de "Resumés" presenta una fantástica colección de Cartas de Presentación para todo tipo de trabajos. Incluso cubre modalidades poco exploradas tipo Cartas-CV o cartas referenciando a terceros que forman parte de tu networking.
A mi modo de ver, le faltaría un poco más de organización a la hora de agrupar las cartas, es complicado en este caso (y curiosamente no lo es en el de Resumés) el diferenciar el trabajo al que va destinada la carta, salvo si uno lee la carta.
Por lo demás, los ejemplos son muy buenos y prácticos.

Ever heard of Excel or just photocopying your rebates and putting them in a folder or you can even go ghetto and put them into a ziploc bag with the dates you sent them in. I can't believe someone would waste good money for this thing. If you are into saving money and sending in rebate then this is one thing you SHOULD NOT BUY!
You have to be kidding.......2005-04-19
This is a joke right? You need to buy a book to track your mail in rebates? How about...make copies of everything, write the date you submitted on each piece of paper, put it all in a file folder. Rebate comes in, you take out those pieces of paper. You're done. If you really want to get fancy, hang a calendar on your wall and every time you submit a rebate, look at the rebate to see how long until it comes back (6-8 weeks, etc.) and write a note on the calendar that far into the future so you know to check up on the rebate if you haven't received it yet.

I have used this rebate book for quite a while now. In fact, I recently went in and checked off a rebate that I have just received. I found it easy to use and has everything all in one place. I don't have to search through a bundle of papers to find what rebates I have sent in and received.

An excellent record keeper........2001-08-23
For years I have kept copies of all my rebates and purchases on individual sheets of paper. It is very frustrating to find one of them when you want to check on it when you have them that way and in various places. This tracker will now do the job for me and have them all in one place. I have already entered 2 items into the book and I am sure there will be more. It is well setup and very easy to use.

Great Sales Training Book!.......2001-10-25
This book provides telemarketing professionals and anybody who needs to sell or prospect over the telephone with the detailed, step-by-step techniques leading toward fianncial success. Its strength is in being exceptionally concise and up to the point. It tells you what words to use, and which ones to avoid. It gives you great, exact sentences that prevent customer's resistance, win his or her appreciation of yourself and your call. It is a hands-on handbook of success.
Interesting and Effective Premise -- Try It!.......2000-08-06
The title hooked me, which is why I read the book. I am usually very skeptical of such effective titles because they are often dreamed up by the publisher's marketing department (which may not have even read the book). In this case, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the premise was followed through effectively in the book.
I personally do not like to conduct business on the telephone. I even try to do teleconferences rather than telephone calls, so we can see each other. I found myself challenging my long-held preferences after reading this book. I had never thought about how much of my time it would save if I conducted more of my business by telephone -- especially with clients who like conversations as one of their preferred ways to learn. I also had not thought about how much elapsed time is saved, which is important in our ever-speeding-up world. Third, I had not considered how many more ways of testing new services I could do this way.
Now, all of that thinking did lead to another thought that the book did not address: Is Internet marketing an opportunity to take the telephone one step further? Since the book was written long before there was an Internet, we can't find out. But it did seem to me that many of the lessons in this book could be applied to the Internet. I plan to try.
Here are the topics covered in the book: (1) examples of the full range and variety of things that have been successfully sold on the telephone (yes, there was a salesman who sold 20 percent of his Rolls-Royces by telephone). (2) how to come across positively on the telephone (examples in here establish how perceptions are influenced by auditory signals, especially tone and speed of voice -- basic Neuro-Linguistic Programming for those of you who know that subject). (3) developing a patterned sales presentation for use on the telephone. (4) a detailed description of the most effective telephone sales process. (5) special help with telemarketing issues (handling rejection, telephone fear, shyness, etc.). (6) model responses for objections.
I found the best part of the book were the scripts (and the analysis of why they work). I also found weaknesses in them. You simply may not be comfortable with some of them. If you are not comfortable, you won't be convincing. The book could be improved a lot by suggesting ways for you to customize these scripts to fit your own situation better without losing the power of the reasons why they work.
Another great part of the book was the list of beliefs that you should use to replace your misconceptions about telephone selling: Anything can be sold by telephone; it is easier than you think; one good phone call can be worth 100 personal meetings; there's no difference between selling tangibles and intangibles on the telephone; businesses are more similar than different when it comes to telephone selling; it is often easier to sell big ticket items by telephone; you can sell in a single call; telephone communications can be as satisfying as face-to-face selling; and every phone call represents a closing opportunity.
On the other hand, our firm has had many people in roles that required calling strangers. Almost everyone finds this daunting, and many people never become comfortable with that. Clearly, the author doesn't feel that way. I suspect most people will need more help in that direction than this book provides.
The author makes a strong claim in the beginning that I feel he carried through on: "Every idea has been tested across all major industries, and I can promise you that you'll be able to put these ideas to work right away."
The book is all about being more engaging, having an infectiously positive attitude, listening better, being more persuasive, having more respect for your telephone contact, and being more helpful. Those are good lessons whether one is on the telephone or not. Like me, you may find other places to apply these ideas. Have a good time selling!

After reading this dull text, I no longer want to succeed. I just want my money back. There's a reason why many of Mr. Goodman's books are currently out of print. Let's hope this one goes soon.

If you use a phone to communicate with people... You are engaged in sales. Asking for information, planning a lunch time, trying to get an interview, etc. In breif clear terms, this book shows you what really happens when you "work" the phone. Personnally, this book sat on my desk every day for three months. During that time I went from an average sales person, to the only person at my company doing 300% of quota. Why am I looking at it today? Over the past 15 years I haven't just suggesting this book to associates - I hand it to them.

I imagine "I Can Sell you Anything" changed my life. I read a borrowed copy of it 25 years ago as a young teen and have been able to spot most tools of the advertising trade clearly ever since. The ad industry thrives on manipulation and has no problem controlling the general public using the simple and obvious techniques outlined in this book. Individuals that seek to develop awareness of these techniques gain some immunity to them and see mass media for what it really is - a vehicle to carry advertising - nothing more. Why do you think broadcast TV is "free"? I've been recommending this book very highly for years, but have not owned a copy until now. I'm happy to say that it's ideas are still relevant even if most of the references are very dated. Buy one NOW before they're GONE! (hee hee) Great book.
