Excellent reference book on direct sales companies.......2000-04-05

Very easy to read and helpful! The first part of the book talks about your goals and what you really want to achieve from working at home. It also covers the different aspects of working at home, basics of selling, and explains the listings. The bulk of the book is the company listings, which are organized by types, such as personal care products and educational products. Each company lists such things as their profile, products/services, selling methods and programs, earnings, sales support, investment required, sales levels and advancement potential. This book is great if you want to get into network marketing, but are not sure what company to get involved with. It provides a lot of helpful information in an easy to read format.

Cuts through the BS.......1999-06-11

There is so much info on Los Angeles, this book cuts right to the point. I just graduated college and moved from Chicago and this book really helped prioritize what I needed. If you want a tourbook, this isn't the book for you. But if you are moving, this is an excellent starting point.

A disappointment........1999-05-31

I was disappointed with this book. It sounded indispensible from the description, but it actually contained little information that was of use to me. Also, it was published in 1992, so is rather out of date. It is short, over-simplified and focuses more on relocating in general than moving to LA. Maybe it would be useful for a young person who is leaving home for the first time, but I really can't imagine that "for people who live and work in Los Angeles, this is the "insider's" manual with the answers to the city's unique problems," as stated on the back cover. I sent this book back.

a goldmine.......2003-03-07

This was a goldmine of info on a small, private company that doesn't get a great deal of press. I've had a hard time getting good info on this company, so it was a relief to get a hold of this guide. I had a couple friends of friends who've worked at Monitor, and so i knew the rep was a good one. But since I couldn't get in touch with these friends of friends, the guide was the next best thing. Plus it's current, moreso than the insight from these FoFs who worked for Monitor several years ago. Thanks WetFeet. I'll be looking at your website some more to help me get my resume writing, interviewing and other skills up to speed.

This book opens a fresh chapter in the debate on local enterprise clusters and their strategies for upgrading in the global economy. The authors employ a novel conceptual framework in their research on industrial clusters in Europe, Latin America and Asia and provide new perspectives and insights for researchers and policymakers alike.

The debate on local upgrading capacity is torn between two lines of thinking: those who believe that local relationships between enterprises and institutions are key to upgrading, and those who argue that the spaces for upgrading are defined by the sourcing strategies of global buyers. From this debate a number of important questions arise: how feasible is it to develop local upgrading strategies? Can local policy networks make a difference, or do global forces undermine them? Do global quality and labor standards marginalize developing country producers or do they help them to upgrade? To answer these questions, the book brings together theoretical and empirical research on local and regional clusters, global value chains and global standards, using case studies from developed and developing countries. The authors provide a new understanding of how global and local governance interact, highlighting power and inequality in global chains but also identifying scope for local action.
