This is a great book once you get past the rather condesending first couple of pages. (tells you to be true to yourself which as it is a book on personality seems a little obvious to me but may be useful to others)
The book takes you through the 4 interaction styles and then how they link to other models such as MBTI, Temperament Theory, Disc, Socaial styles, Thomas-kilman (although that is not the main point of the book it is useful information). The interaction styles themselves are based mainly around the role you might play in a work/project environment and the Patterns of Interaction Styles section is a fantastic overview of the drivers of the types.

Overall an excellent build on personality type.

Great information but not what I was hoping for........2001-09-17

This book has really great information for setting up and running a business from home however I was looking for information that would help me to be a stay at home mom. I have a college degree but 98% of the jobs listed in this book are things that I would have no way of doing without further extensive schooling. Some of the stay at home jobs include: Architect, Computer repair, Software design, and Computer maintenance and programming. There are some that are less intensive such as word processing, graphic design and newsletter publishing. Maybe what I'm looking for just doesn't really exist outside of the too good to be true work at home scams. I think I'm going to give medical transcription a try and that was not even covered in this book which seemed surprising considering that it is one of the few legitimate ways to work at home with minimal costs. This book would be helpful though if you already have a service in mind to provide from home but don't know how to go about setting it up.

International job seekers are the ultimate risk-takers who are seldom obsessed with their careers. Conventional career planning requires job seekers to first assess their skill, abilities, and work values, and then formulate a career strategy that will waste an entire life towards making money, career advancement, and hopefully, long-term employment. It is now common knowledge that average long-term employment has been reduced to an average of 5 years.

The absolute reality is that most job seekers, after spending incredible resources in time, effort and money, will often take any job offered to them and compromise their career goals and skills to...do as they're told, oops...match the requirements of particular jobs!

The international job market does not respond well to conventional career planning designed around the American work ethic for career success. Work ethics around the world are wonderfully different! There are other variables to consider such as the similarities in the entertainment and the airline industry. Old Style - Used Car Sales Approach.......2007-07-07

If you want to fit the mold of the old time sales person who can sell ice to eskimos this is your book.

If you want a higher level modern approach that works in complex B2B sales don't buy this book. If your work involves selling to senior level people in corporations or government this book will be of little use to you. It is based on principles which which don't work with the kind of people on which you call.

Try: "Value Forward Selling," "Selling is Dead," and "Same Game, New Rules." Also try the "Advanced Selling" podcast. It's free and state of the art.

Cold Calling Techniques a must read.......2007-06-27

My staff and I are going through this book chapter by chapter every week during the later part of our sales meetings. It is a great way to discuss the age old dilema......"I hate cold calling. This gives the professional salesperson the tools needed to get over the fear, and distaste of making the inital contact whether door to door, or on the phone. I would recomend this book to all salespeople, sales leaders, and or managers. You may not agree with everything written....we don't, but it provides a forum for your team to discuss what they feel will work, might work, or will not work. It's a great read.

This Book Gets A Gold Star.......2007-05-14

Each year I read approx. 25 books. I keep a list on my computer, and those that stand out and provide above average advice get a gold star. This book got such a star.

Schiffman does a great job of working with the reader on the cold calling efforts that are so important to sales professionals. Many people try to discredit cold-calling and looking for ways around it (networking is a very important tool, but only when a compliement to other calling methods!), and this book shines the light on the best practices of picking up the phone and being heard.

Cold Calling Techniques Indeed.......2007-05-07

Stephan Schiffman is a great author. This book is so easy to read and Schiffman gets right down to the point. His techniques really do work and it take the negative connotation out of "cold calling" and gives the caller more confidence. I highly recommend this book.

First Cold Calling Book..........2007-02-06

I haven't read any other cold calling books. As a result, I don't know how this compares with others that you might be looking to buy. I can say, though, that I have just started my first sales job, and I found this book extremely helpful. It started off a little weak with the typical formulas about how many calls lead to how many proposals and sales, but when it got into the mechanics of a cold call, and tips on leaving voicemail, I found a lot of helpful information.

I don't know... I guess I was expecting more from this book. After reading Telesales Tips From The Trenches (Catal) and How To Sell More In Less Time (Sobczak) this was kind of a let down.

excellent teaching book on the process of telephone sales.......2007-09-24

If you do any type of telephone sales this book is great!! I found it to be very easy to read and the examples were just what I deal with in my job. I needed more info on how to sell to "new" prospects and this helped me alot. While I did not necessarily do every exercise, I found the ones I did do to be very informative. I even bought a copy for a co-worker (I didn't want to give mine up!!)

This book offers a great way to dissect your sales call, identify what's missing (or what's overkill), measure its effectiveness, and improve your strategy. I purchased this book with another "highly rated" telephone sales book after scouring every book regarding tele-sales and telemarketing at my library. This is the best current publication that I have found.

Now this has practical tips from the trenches and you can tell the author isnt writing about theory but has done it himself. For someone with no experience in the field this is a handson guide with actionable items anyone can do when theyre finished.

I just got this book yesterday and am already more than half way through-it keeps you moving along and wanting to read each following chapter. i have no prior experience in telesales (or any sales) and this book has answered a lot of questions for me already. every time a question comes up, it seems it is answered within the following few chapters. the book is orgainzed very well and i can see how its suggestions will help me when i start my new job. i am very eager to put them to use!

A good primer on telemarketing.......1999-10-23

Schiffman turns his basic approach of 'find out what the customer wants, then give it to them' to the telemarketer. Though this book is one of his earlier ones and thus, a bit more 'rough around the edges' Schiffman lays out clear guidelines for getting into the right frame of mind for cold calling, qualifying, and following through. These are direct, to-the-point instructions for a beginning telemarketer or small business owner. Having managed telemarketers, I can say that this book works. It's very effective in combination with his book on Cold-Calling Techniques. Given that the price is a fraction of many allegedly 'great' books on selling, you definitely get your money's worth! This is not a book that will gloss over the selling process with lots of war stories about how the author sold billions of dollars worth of life insurance or real estate. This book challenges you to sit down and make the calls.
