The only guide of its kind?.......2006-02-20
Italy has such a rich gastronomic history and there are so few restaurant guide books that focus on this (with the exception of Florence and Tuscany). Many guide books only focus on the well-known, more touristy, places which I would prefer to skip. Zagat on-line only lists a few places. I have had the opportunity to dine at a few of the places listed and the experiences have been consistent with the reviews. And, it's small enough to keep in your pocket for quick reference by Rome's geographical areas.
The best restaurant guide.......2005-02-14
The small size of this book makes it perfect to tuck into a purse or pocket. The restaurants are organized according to neighborhoods and are marked on detailed maps, making them easy to find. I'm just back from a week of wonderful meals in Rome thanks to this guide. No matter what neighborhood I was in when I felt hungry, I could read the descriptions in this book and decide on the perfect place to eat. Included is helpful information on cuisine, tipping, and a glossary of Italian menu terms.
Finally.......2002-11-22
After living in Rome for a year and a half, I still find myself lost in the restaurant and dining scene in Rome. Finally there is a guide to help people find new and interesting places to go to. Through the millions of restaurants available this guide helps shine a light to the kind of place one is searching for. Dana Klitzberg and Time outhas really brought a guide that is worth every penny and more. The reviews are personable, informative, fun to read, and cover a wide spectrum of options and areas in Rome. Thank you Timeout for finally sorting out the restaurant and bar scene in ROME!!

Book Description
As employers face increasing global competition, they are not only adopting new technology and management styles, they're also looking for workers with compatible personality and mental characteristics. It's no longer simply what can you do that counts; it's also how well do you fit in with the culture of the company and its goals. In the chapters, What Do Employers Want? and Organizational Style, new hiring criteria are described in detail (i.e., ability to work in teams, willingness to learn new tasks, ability to adapt to rapid changes in procedures and technology, creativity).
The chapter, Ways to Boost Your Self-Confidence, describes cognitive self-therapy techniques which really work. Twelve pages of interview questions provide additional moral support. Another chapter helps the job applicant bring into focus his/her strengths and weaknesses before facing the firing line of interviewer questions.
Other features of the book include tips on verbal and non-verbal communication which, psychological studies show, can influence the outcome of the interview. There are sections on special problems confronting women and older job hunters. In keeping with the spirit of the title, many humorous illustrations and quotations help the job hunter realize that, after all, a single interview is not a life-or-death situation but just one move in a game where practicing the right strategies can eventually lead to a win!

Customer Reviews:
So helpful! Fun to read but no fluff and no nonsense!.......2007-08-07
Wedding books can get so fluffy sometimes that, while fun to read, they are rendered practically useless as far as solid information is concerned. This book is a lot of fun to read but it is also very no nonsense. It's organized very well and is packed with ideas, how-to, and tips! I put a summary of each chapter in my planner and refer to it often. This book has become my planning bible!
Fantastic Guide.......2007-03-05
This book really does let you in on some savvy ways to save money. It's also not product driven like bridal bargins is. There are a few names tossed out but it's mostly on letting you know what not to do to let others take advantage of you. The advice on updo's will be followed. Highly recommended!!
Best wedding planning book on the shelf!.......2005-08-09
I've purchased several wedding planning books, but Nina's is the absolute best. She has a fun, witty writing style and offers great tips for scoring the best prices and trendiest extras for your wedding. Don't hire a wedding planner - buy "Wedding Chic"!
Wish I had known about this book sooner!.......2005-08-04
I love this little book! I've been engaged for 6 months now and I just discovered this gem of a book a month ago on a friend's bookshelf. Much of the information was no longer useful in my stage of planning, as I'm getting married in less than 2 months. But, reading over it confirmed that some of the ways my fiance and I went about cutting costs for the wedding were actually done before, and smart. And, just because we've found ways to spend less, doesn't mean our wedding will turn out "cheap." There have been other information useful to me from this point on. It's a really savvy, and stylish. The illustrations are great, too! I've already purchased it for 2 friends who just got engaged.
The Bridezilla's Handbook.......2005-04-05
First off let me start by saying that this book lacks fun. This book approaches weddings like the police approach known criminals. Planning your wedding shouldn't be a bloodsport, it should be fun.
This book does have some great ideas and information on how to save on your wedding costs, but an even greater cost could be your relationship with your vendors, friends, and family.
Everybody wants the best prices possible and should try to get them. Following the guidelines in this book would not be the best method for obtaining that goal. This book teaches you to look down on your wedding vendors and to treat them as an opponent in your way of saving money.
If this is how you will approach your vendors for your special day, you surely will not earn favor with any of them.
If you're the type of person who actually catorgorizes your friends in an "A" list and a "B" list or are so self centered you could have the wedding of your dreams even if you were the only one who attended, this book is right up your alley.
My advice is work with people you're comfortable with and respect at a price you can afford and you will have the most wonderful day of your life.
Save your cash and pass on this book.

Customer Reviews:
Some good ideas, but a bad attitude.......2004-02-20
Deborah McCoy plays the role of the M-I-L from hell, whose advice you might appreciate, but whose snarky tone just sets your teeth on edge. You can practically hear her telling a bride, "Oh, dear, you DID plan on loosing some of that weight, didn't you?" Some of her tips on cutting costs without sacrificing quality were very helpful, but she just can't rein in the judgmental attitude that says, "Any bride who doesn't do it MY WAY is a horrible horrible person whose friends will all hate her." McCoy toots her own horn as a wedding planner over and over again, giving us at least one story per chapter about how she single-handedly saved some poor clueless bride's wedding day. Her tips would have been much more helpful if she were less rigid in her (often contradictory, often old-fashioned) etiquette and "elegance" rules. Her views on what is mandatory and what is unnecessary are completely out of touch with what most brides want, but she sets them down as absolutes that should not under any circumstances be deviated from. (For instance: Videographer, mandatory; limo, unnecessary. Hello???)
That said, she does offer some good tips, for instance recipes and instructions on making your own wedding cake and a great chapter on selecting engagement rings. If you can get this book from your library, you might glean some good ideas from it, but I would never recommend that you rely exclusively on this book when planning your wedding.
The Wedding of Your Dreams on a Shoestring Budget.......2000-08-10
The author gives great advice on cutting the bills and keeping the frills. For example, our wedding looks like it cost the average $20,000+, but it is only costing 7,000 or less. The book is extremely detailed and gives step by step instructions and ideas on the wedding from start to finish. I really got a lot of use out of the wedding checklists, the recipes, and the suggested vendor list. I've read it cover to cover a few times and have found this resource to be *Extremely Helpful*. I've only bought one wedding planner book - THIS ONE! :)
Waste of $20.......2000-07-03
In my opinion, this book was very unuseful.I found it to be a waste of $20. In the first few pages the author states..."A wedding is not a time to have it your way." She also feels that having portraits of the bride and groom or running videos of their love story in the reception "..is vulgar. A wedding is not supposed to convey a message to the guests that says, "I'm Queen For A Day," or "Look At Me!" Personally, I found this to be insulting. Of course the wedding day is supposed to be the bride and grooms' day to shine and to hare that day with the ones you love. In my opinion, you can find friendly and realistic advise in "Bridal Bargains" by Denise and Alan Fields or "How to Have a Big Wedding on a Small Budget" by Diane Warner. These books realize how important this day is to the couple and also present useful information on how to make it your day without the wasted money.
Terrific ideas... great planning solutions!.......1999-08-30
This book is a must read for brides like myself who want to have a truly elegant wedding but do not have a large budget. When I began to plan my wedding, I was discouraged by the high prices from vendors. I needed to know how to save money without compromising quality. Deb McCoy taught me how to do this! My wedding was beautiful and it did not cost a fortune... Thank you Deb!
An outstanding, must-have book for any engaged couple!.......1999-07-16
As a bride with a very limited budget I read this book from cover to cover and marked almost every page as having information I'd need along the way. Although some of it did not apply to me at all, the tips and suggestions given certainly inspired me to "get creative" with how things should be done. Thanks to this book I feel like my wedding will be the one I've always wanted, without breaking the bank! Thank you, Ms. McCoy, for showing that elegant does not have to mean $$$$.

A Good Starting Point.......2001-09-13
As a Professional Bridal Consultant I am always on the look out for helpful resources to add to my library to use assisting brides plan their own weddings. This book presents some good ideas ý the questions to ask service providers is definitely beneficial since each bride, whether or not on a strict budget, needs to be an informed shopper. The tips offered in the later chapters are useful as they give each bride many cost saving ideas which she can choose from. Although these tips can often be found in other sources (bridal magazines, planners, web sites) it is nice (and time saving) to have them all in one place.
There is no one way to have a ceremony and reception as the "Sample Weddings" section explained, however only one included the budget used, and it was over budget. Also, paying [their estimated expense] for dinner is NOT budget minded. It may have been helpful to know where Rachel and Mark's reception was taking place, since weddings (and budgets) vary from places like New York or Los Angeles to the Midwest.
I must disagree with the statement on page 7 which states, "people seldom use wedding consultants unless they are having a larger, more expensive wedding." Many of my brides had small guest lists and low budgets... I would think that the brides with less money to spend would want the assistance of a professional to ensure that their hard earned dollars are spent wisely.
Did not live up expectations.......2000-01-22
The book consisted of mainly stories of other weddings. Only one story showed how they budgeted and that couple went over budget. The budget wedding cost over $10,000. Ginger-ale is cheaper than that. The wooksheets in the book look useful but you can find similar charts in other better resources. Don't waste your money.
Excellent Resource!.......1998-07-26
This book is an outstanding tool to use for establishing and following a reasonable wedding budget. By using the checklists and service provider question sheets, we were able to uncover the "hidden costs" charged by many providers and were in a much better position to negotiate favorable arrangements. We saved at least $2,000 - $3,000 by following the recommendations in this valuable planning guide!

Budget Brides demonstrates how to hold an entire wedding for less than many brides pay for their dress!
Customer Reviews:
Choose a different budget wedding book! .......2007-03-19
This book is full of advice that is either obvious or strange.
Most brides looking for a budget wedding plan to spend more than $300 on the whole thing, aren't going to sew their dress, and don't want fake flower bouquets made months in advance.
Odd advice includes:
- asking your local licor store to loan you glasses for the event
- the bride taking a shower well before the wedding since her family will be hogging the shower later
- getting your hair done first thing in the morning for an evening wedding so your hair will have time to "drop a little".
- serving alcohol even it it violates your beliefs so as not to impose your wishes on others (umm..it's your party)
If you are planning to have fewer than 10 guests, and do every last thing yourself, and you really only have $300, this might be the book for you.
If that's not the case, consult "Bridal Bargains" by Denise and Alan Fields for advice on how to have a beautiful wedding with no cut corners for less money.
Buy this book for all of the brides-to-be that you know!.......2006-01-13
Di Kivi's book was filled with absolutely the best information on budget weddings that I have found. I loved that her ideas and suggestions sparked my own creativity and gave me ideas for creating a beautiful and budget conscience wedding that was meaningful to me and my husband. I now buy this book for all of my friends who become engaged!
Just okay.......2005-06-17
This book had a lot of common sense information on saving money, but nothing really earth-shattering. You take a risk hiring amatuer photographers or flower arrangers, and this book doesn't really seem to acknowledge that, for example. A lot of these tips, like having a mid-afternoon instead of a dinner reception, or not having an open bar are really common sense and make it evident to everyone that you want to have a budget wedding.
To really learn about a budget wedding (or just a normal wedding where you don't get taken advantage of by vendors), Denise Fields's Bridal Bargains is invaluable. I recommend that book instead. It will show you how to have a wedding for a reasonable price that doesn't appear to cut corners at all.
Excellent Book!.......2000-06-04
It's about time a book like this was written! I'm planning my own wedding right now, and all the other books and magazines I've read keep telling me that I have to spend $20,000 or more to do it right. This book has many great ideas, but best of all, it's written in a way that reassures us that yes, it's OK to not spend a small fortune...the etiquette ploice will NOT hunt us down! It has given me the inspiration to plan the budget wedding I want, and not the three-ring circus other people think I should have. And my fiance agrees 100%! Thanks for a great book!
An excellent book for money concerned brides.......2000-05-09
This book was great for sharing tips on how to have a beautiful, but very inexpensive wedding. It was also very flexible because everything she mentioned, it was suggestions in which you can come up with your own ideas for your wedding. I would suggest this book for any bride, no matter how much she's spending.

This book will be nice in any craft book collection. She gives you a complete list of all materials that you need to complete each craft.
