Book Description
This unique collection of Clem Tisdell's articles is an eminently readable and comprehensive economic analysis of important contemporary issues involving ecological and environmental economics.
Coverage includes the role of ecological economics in the modern world, welfare and ethical considerations in environmental economics, sustainability concerns, the potential role of local communities in conservation, environmental aspects of population growth, and the relevance of carrying capacity concepts. The value for environmental management of different types of governance and of alternative economic policy instruments (such as environmental taxation compared to tradable permits) is also assessed.
Ecological, environmental, natural resource, geographical and development economists will all find this book of great interest and value, as will policymakers in this area.

Customer Reviews:
Communicating Well How to Communicate Well.......2007-07-15
Joan Detz stresses the importance of successful communications. She recommends steps that people should consider in their communications. These considerations include determining what the other party desires to learn, avoiding providing them what they already know unless you may correct misconceptions, weighing what means others wish to receive your communication, and figuring out how your communication will be superior to anyone else's.
She recommends noting useful tips such as: people remember less from larger communications, one should avoid vague and weak opening communications, simplify boring data and make data relevant to other parties, people react better to communications that are offered with confidence, and if one forgets what they are stating to avoid trying attention to the lapse while recalling one's thoughts.
This Book Is Loaded With Wisdom.......2006-07-04
If you want to improve your communications skills, then you need this book. It is loaded with great counsel whether you are addressing a large arena full of people or you are making a presentation to your colleagues at work. Joan Detz has put together a powerhouse of information in this title.
Insightful!.......2001-03-31
This extremely practical, highly focused book goes through the hands-on details of preparing a presentation or speech. Some of the instructions seem self-evident, but only because author Joan Detz is extremely thorough and recognizes that it is easy to forget these "obvious" tips under pressure. She provides a vast amount of practical information, far more than anyone could absorb at once, but her tips are worth reading again and again. She also includes good self-assessment forms and questionnaires. Many of these venerable public-speaking concepts date back to the Sermon on the Mount, but Detz adds her own spin by emphasizing that the focus should be on the speaker, not on slides or props (downplay the loaves and fishes). The book's power resides in its completeness; Detz seems to have thought of everything, and that is reassuring. We [...] recommend this book to anyone who must make presentations in public, under any circumstances.
It's Not What You Say, It's How You Say It.......2001-01-26
Extremely easy to read. Every point is supported by real life examples or funny bloopers. Because of its simplicity, it sticks and you are more likely to apply it to your next presentation, speech, delivering a status to the boss. It is worth having in the bookshelf as a business reference or for personal situations.

Great Help to Industry Veteran to 'Land' in Travel Industry.......2001-12-18
As a veteran of the travel industry, I found "Inside Secrets' invaluable when I was "excessed" from my company and had to find a new position. I was desperate to stay within the travel industry (because as anyone who works in travel knows, it is so dynamic and exciting, it is addictive) and "Inside Secrets" showed me fields of travel that I had not known about before. I was able to be "proactive" in my search, follow leads, and learn about fields in order to present my qualifications most effectively. Thank you!!!
Required Reading for Travel Service Careers.......2001-05-23
I really liked the format of the book -- it was extremely easy to follow. I could find the same type of information in the same location in each chapter. As I am trying to decide whether I want to make a change to another area in the industry, I appreciated that the book gave me great comparison information, including current salaries. The recommended internet links will certainly reduce my time surfing the web for the information and sites that are important to me! I already have recommended the book to my colleagues, and feel that it should be required reading for anyone in college or who wants to make a career change in the travel service industry.
Like a Guidebook to the Travel Industry.......2001-05-18
This book was amazingly helpful in letting me discover areas of the travel industry that I had not known about before, and providing weblinks to companies, associations and other databases with real jobs. I loved the descriptions of the industry segments and the "major players," as well as having real job descriptions, salary information, and personal stories. Because of this book, I can really see myself in the travel industry, and I have a place to start on the path to a career in travel.

Customer Reviews:
Cha-ching!.......2001-05-18
This is the way it is done. Debra Benton did it...so can we.
A Solid Effort!.......2001-05-09
The dust cover claims this book is worth its weight in gold. Its last chapter, which outlines the 20 steps to earning $100,000 a year, could well make it so. If you buy the book, read the final chapter first. D.A. Benton’s 20 steps are clear and easy to follow. Once you know them, the rest of the book provides excellent supporting information. Benton shows examples of how specific individuals (many of them high-profile celebrities and athletes) used each step to achieve success. This book offers no get-rich-quick schemes. The author advocates a logical, methodical approach to making $100,000 per year. She is so confident that she makes a guarantee: If you put maximum effort into all 20 steps, you will become a member of the $100,000 Club. We [...] recommend this book to anyone interested in making a six-figure income.
The book is now my secret weapon!.......2000-09-26
I am a real person, and a simple reader. Mentioning the above is simply to claim the authenticity of my review, not some made up or conspired opinion or expression, but a true and genuine review. This is one of the greatest and best books I ever read by far, especially in it's own category. What it's contents cover and how the whole book is put together is a marvelous and tremendous work. I am only about half way through the book and it's definitely my mental coach, encouragement, inspiration, motivation, and secret weapon of all things, already. Some or perhaps many of the ideas in the book are not new inventions, but how the author was able to put everything together in such an excellently constructed order, along with her own professional knowledge, and wisdom surely amazes me. Never before have I heard of D. A. Benton But I have now a great admiration for her and started search all the books she's written. I wouldn't want my competitors at work know about this book but worse is to see all the disgusting reviews written by people who do not have an appreciation for great work. And others being misleaded by those reviews. That's the reason I had to write this. That's how good this book is.
not a total waste of money, not a necessary investment.......2000-07-18
I disagree with some of the other reviewers who said this tape is total trash. It is good for young people just getting into the career market, because it gives practical information to help make sure you are even aiming in the right direction for your goals. It helps give a broad perspective on your career as a whole, not "I just graduated now I have to use this degree somehow." Overall, I say it is a decent book, but I can do without her philosophical digressions at the beginning of the tape about how society tries to make us think money is evil.
Absolute pablum; save your time & money.......2000-02-24
Show up, work hard, dress well, take initiative, revere motherhood, etc. Nothing even remotely new or innovative in terms of career management or organizational behavior. Take a pass on this and try golf lessons instead...
