    Economic analysis of choice under uncertainty has been dominated by the expected utility (EU) model, yet the EU model has never been without critics. Psychologists accumulated evidence that individual choices under uncertainty were inconsistent with the predictions of the EU model. Applied work in areas such as finance was dominated by the simpler mean-variance analysis. In the 1980s this skepticism was dispelled as a number of generalizations of EU were proposed, most of which were capable of explaining evidence inconsistent with EU, while preserving transitivity and dominance. Generalized expected utility is now a flourishing subfield of economics, with dozens of competing models and considerable literature exploring their theoretical properties and comparing their empirical performance. But the EU model remains the principal tool for the analysis of choice under uncertainty. There is a view that generalized models are too difficult to handle or incapable of generating sharp results. This creates a need to show that the new models can be used in the kinds of economic analysis for which EU has been used, and that they can yield new and interesting results. This book meets this need by describing one of the most popular generalized models -- the rank-dependent expected utility model (RDEU), also known as anticipated utility, EU with rank-dependent preferences, the dual theory of choice under uncertainty, and simply as rank-dependent utility. As the many names indicate, the model has been approached in many ways by many scientists and for this reason, consideration of a single model sheds light on many of the concerns that have motivated the development of generalized utility models. The popularity of the RDEU model rests on its simplicity and tractability. The standard tools of analysis developed for EU theory may be applied to the RDEU model, but since RDEU admits behavior inconsistent with EU, the field of potential applications is widened. As such, the RDEU model is not as much a competitor to EU as an extension based on less restrictive assumptions.

      I pulled this book from the library with a number of others and almost returned it unread. I'm glad that I didn't do that, however, because I've gotten so much out of it. I have used this type of journal writing for a number of years and can testify to its healing powers. I am always amazed at how quickly peace can come or how solutions can appear just by moving the pen across the page. In spite of the fact that I have been practicing what this book is "preaching", I was still able to glean some practical tips and inspiration to continue using this in my daily life even when I'm not faced with some earth-shattering crisis. I'd highly recommend this. It's cheaper than a psychiatrist and safer than drugs and all you have to do is pick up a pen.

      These books, including my own, 'Second Chance Ranch', and Joan Didion's 'The Year of Magical Thinking,' will become more widely read as babyboomers age and begin to come to terms with loss(es). Ms. Klauser is a wonderful writer, and this is a wonderful book.

      I read this book for an article for Journals at BellaOnline.com. I found this to be one of the finest books on journal writing that I've read so far. It is not for everyone. However, if you have suffered a painful experience and don't seem to find your way out of it--I suggest this book. I have found writing to be therapeutic also. Dr. Klauser gives suggestions on techniques that help a hurting person write. She does this through the stories of people who have used different techniques to heal from painful and sometimes horrific circumstances. I highly recommend this book.

      Fellow Minnesota oldsters and yuppies alike will have a ball browsing through this lovely coffee table book of the historic eateries in our home state. I was delighted to find a photo of the menu for my Dad's Minneapolis restaurant, the 620 Club, which he owned and operated with partners Max & Henry Winter from 1935 to 1965. (Max and Dad had been among the partners in the Minneapolis Lakers basketball team, and Max went on to found the Minnesota Vikings.) And then there was Charlie's Cafe Exceptionale. Ohhhh, how I miss Charlie's! Chuck Saunders' chef, Russian emigre Harry Walkowitz, also headed up the 620's kitchen for a number of years both before and after his stint at Charlie's. No wonder the food was so good at both places. Harry's secret: "I use lots of booouuter."

                            This is ok. If you can see past all the new age stuff, then you might like it. This person is of the school of thought of Zen, and Eckhart Tolle, so if you like that stuff, I recommend this audio book.

                            This book/CD would never have been published if the author wasn't also the publisher. I guess once your rich you can get away with a lot. I'm just glad I checked it out at the library! If you are into new-age/metaphysical mumbo-jumbo you'll love this. It reeked of "A Course in Miracles", and listening to Marc Allen reminded me a lot of Wayne Dyer (voice and monotone). After trashing this work I will point out that the author did speak about prioritizing and acting on your dreams. These two attributes alone should account for at least 3 stars. I just found it boring, and am sick of authors like Marc Allen, Donald Trump, Robert Kiyosaki, Mark Fisher, Anthony Robbins, etc. throwing the word 'millionaire' or 'billionaire' into the title--just to trap the unaware. I've listened to tons of the stuff, read the books and tried some of the methods. I aint rich yet. Hey, I've got an idea! Maybe I should write a book...I'll call it "Let's All Be Millionaires (or Billionaires). At least I'll get rich!

                            This audio book has words of wisdom from a self-made millionaire who takes a more relaxed approach to life's challenges and situations than most `Type A' success stories. The main focus here is learning to do what you love and creating a career out of it. Some of the lesson topics include: "Imagine your ideal scene," "Discover your core beliefs, and learn how to change them," and "Grow at your own pace.
